I have to say the TV series is more delightful in dealing with Dexter's death. Despite the differences between the show and the book series, this one still gets only 3 stars.
The author's reading is OK for this book as the core characters of Dexter, Deb and Brian are the main voices we hear. I still would recommend reading the book rather than listening to the audiobook.
The continual use of D-words to describe Dexter has been a constant throughout the series just bordering on inane. The lapse, for me, was how the author tries to get masterfully eloquent in describing the ending. I notice this occurrence in numerous books, especially at the start or the end of the story. While Lindsay does sprinkle it in a little bit at a time in his stories, the ending felt like a push to get all of his eloquence onto paper before it was all over.
Dexter didn't really impress me with his intelligence. A few glaring oversights and foibles were just too obvious for even a person of average intelligence.
Overall, a decent series, but just not going down as an all time favorite. I don't regret my time listening to the series in the least, but I do wish I had read them for myself.
