Selimović's last, and unfinished novel. Like his other great works, it explores the nature of totalitarianism. But unlike Tvrđava and Derviš i smrt, this is set in the present day (or rather, in the 1960s-1970s). A young man born into the elite, thanks to his brother's heroic death in WWII, begins to question the nature of the society in which he inherited a privileged place. The power structures and their operation are thus seen through the eyes of an increasingly disillusioned insider. As it stands it's a great read, it's just a shame the author never managed to finish it.
