So, this was my first book of Rainbow Rowell and I have to say that overall I was happy with it. The writing was wonderful, and I loved how the characters were all so complex and realistic. Each character had their own different issues and personalities. Levi had his inability to read and remember books, Wren had her drinking problem, Cath had her insecurity and shyness, Nick had his secret motives, and Prof. Piper had her negativity towards Fanfiction.
I want Levi to be my boyfriend. He was like practically perfect! Let's go down the list: He's polite, good with sisters and parents, funny, sweet, caring, gentle, cheerful, smart, able to cope with quirks, likes fanfiction... I almost found him TOO perfect. He wasn't a real guy, he was like some weird fantasy from a teenager's head.
Cath's behavior sort of drove me insane. It was like whenever anything got a little bit hard, she just burst into tears and was like "I CAN'T DO IT CAUSE IT"S HARD!!!!! WWWWAAAA!!!!!" When she was telling her dad she might not go back to school, I was just like,
"WWWHHHAAATTT???????"
And when she didn't really stand up to Nick and was like crying I was like,
"WWWWWHHHAAATTT?????"
I loved how Cath was a writer, and the idea of a fanfiction writer was really awesome. When I was about... 7 I went through a phase were I would read really stupid humor fanfictions, and I loved them, so I have appreciation for fanfiction, because it helps people to feel that something they love is still real. Therefore, I loved that Rowell showed that. In fact, my favorite part was when Cath is talking to one of her devoted fans. That just really touched me, because it would be so cool if someone said that about the short stories I write.
Overall, it had some problems, but it was entertaining and well written so I settled on a 3 star rating.
