I was able to read four of the stories: The Privateer’s Prize by MaryLu Tyndall, Leftover Mail-Order Bride by Regina Scott, Clara’s Compassion by Marlene Bierworth, & Courting Miss Darling by Chautona Havig. Each novella was thoroughly enjoyable & a fun, quick read easily devoured in a day. I loved all the varying tropes.
The Privateer’s Prize is an exciting second chance romance set during the Revolutionary War. Captain Isaac Preston, the man who left her at the alter must protect Thea & transport her safely to Baltimore before the British officer determined to get the secret message she’s hiding finds her.
Leftover Mail-Order Bride is a delightful love at first sight romance set in the late 1800’s Pacific Northwest. Victoria traveled to the area to become a mail-order bride but was left at the alter. Determined to marry for love, she’s resistant to Jack’s courtship who seems to only want someone to help on his family’s ranch. Though Jack fell hard when he first saw her, he has trouble convincing her he wants more than just a hard worker. I was excited to find that this story is the next in the Frontier Brides series.
Clara’s Compassion is by a new to me author. I enjoyed this story of a wealthy young woman who agrees to be a mail-order bride in order to fulfill her dream of living in the Rocky Mountains and becoming a teacher. She gets more than she bargains for when she clashes with the town and her handsome groom over problems with railroad workers, and educating the children of immigrant workers.
Courting Miss Darling is a sweet, matchmaking pen pal romance. Miss Muriel Darling is a 28 year old teacher disappointed in love. When she receives an unexpected letter from a stranger recommended by a former student, she decides to pass the cold winter answering his letters. Pete Donaldson is a wealthy rancher living in the Dakotas wanting a wife. Through their delightful letters, they find an enjoyable friendship & later love.
Looking forward to reading the other stories in the collection! I received an advanced complimentary copy from the publisher. All opinions are my own & voluntarily provided....more

Beller delivers another exciting story in the Brothers of Sapphire Ranch saga! I’ve been anticipating Jonah’s story since the last book & couldn’t wait to read his second chance at love. Jonah Coulter was all prepared to marry up until his fiancée’s estranged husband showed up. Now heartbroken and dejected, he offers to find the long lost aunt and only living relative of a little girl left at the ranch after her grandmother passed away.
As Jonah searches for Patience Whitman, he finds a woman in a saloon who meets the description, but goes by the name Patsy. Patience has had a rough life surviving abuse, a mail order marriage gone wrong, & finally becoming a widow after her gambling husband was killed. Determined to become independent and earn enough for a little cottage in Indiana, the last thing she wants is a handsome mountain man disrupting her plans. When she learns of her little niece, she decides to accompany Jonah back to Montana.
I adored Jonah & his heart of gold. While he falls for Patsy, her tough as nails, independence requires some patience on his part. As he teaches her about his faith and rescues her in more ways than one, he begins to crack that tough armor she’s built around herself. But will Patsy choose to open her heart, or will she walk away.
I loved the beautiful second chance romance as these two people with challenging pasts finally find happiness. As with all of these stories, there’s a bit of suspense as they battle formidable situations and villains. These Brothers of Sapphire Ranch stories are addictive! While each one is easily read as a standalone, I love the way they connect & how each brother’s strengths get to shine. The Coulter brothers carry a legacy of love of family, faith, and hard work as they run a successful sapphire mine & ranch in the mountains of Montana. I’m so glad there are more brothers to continue this enjoyable series!

I enjoy books where there’s a lot of romantic tension, & wow, this book delivers.
Petra Anderson’s know as a serial runaway bride, almost leaving one man at the alter. While no man has captured her love, she’s determined to find it for her disfigured sister Demi. Petra & Demi embark on a dangerous journey on the Oregon Trail to hopefully both find happily ever after.
Sam Bridger is one of several orphaned brothers who promised his mother he would marry. He & his brother Nate who’re both on the wagon train heading West make a bet to win Petra’s heart by the end of the journey. While the handsome, flirtatious Sam has often been used by women until they marry someone else, he’s determined to find true love, hopefully with Petra.
Petra & Sam were so much fun! When they both wind up injured & share the same wagon, the sparks fly. Petra is having none of Sam’s flirting, especially when she finds out about the bet. But, Sam really gets under her skin. He’s constantly there to rescue her & his good heart slowly wins her over. I loved them watching the dance, sharing their deepest thoughts in the wagon, the wolf rescue, & the ending. I also enjoyed the growth Petra goes through as she realizes she’s not responsible for her sister’s happiness. Demi has her own romance with a Bridger brother & I’m excited to get her story.
While this is part of a series, it can definitely be read as a standalone. Highly recommend to Western romance fans! This is a swoony, kissing only book with plenty of forced proximity. I received an advanced complimentary copy from the author but also read the book in Kindle Unlimited. All opinions are my own & voluntarily provided. ...more

I absolutely adored each story which traced a beautiful silk wedding gown from the wartime years of 1918 to 1943 to 1969. Each story was thoroughly unique with a lovely, heartfelt second chance romance.
A Heart in Disguise by Rachel Scott McDaniel is a fast paced, exciting story as Clara & Marcus try to foil a plot against New York City. Clara’s part of the US Camouflage Corps. who overhears a threat in German. She enlists her childhood friend Marcus Reeves who’s just returned from the war to search for clues. I loved their funny re-meet cute & the sizzling attraction between them. I also enjoyed learning more about the Camouflage Corps. This story beautifully sets up the ones that follow & I loved the connecting element.
A Letter to Eli by Allison Pittman is a heart-achingly lovely story about Bette & her friend Alice whose boyfriends are off fighting in WWII. Afraid of another loss, Bette broke up with Eli before he left. When Bette receives an unexpected letter, her world is thrown upside down. Bette’s a feisty, prickly character whom I grew to love. She’s experienced so many challenging circumstances & I loved seeing her become more accepting of love. I also loved Alice & her ability to know just what Bette & Eli needed.
A Daffodil in the Dress by Susie Finkbeiner is such a delightful, enjoyable romance. After her husband’s death in Vietnam, Kate & her darling five year old daughter Eloise have found a friend in Ike Finch, the handsome bookstore owner whom Kate works for. His easygoing thoughtful manner & the way he treats her daughter has endeared him to Kate. When a romance loving customer suggests Ike feels more than friendship for her, Kate thinks she could entertain a second chance at love. I thoroughly enjoyed the way Ike courted Kate. He’s such a swoony, sensitive guy who had me cheering for his success.
This is a fantastic collection with three amazing stories. I loved each one and found them all so compelling. Highly recommend to historical fiction fans! I received an advanced complimentary copy from the publisher. All opinions are my own and voluntarily provided. ...more

Enjoyed this historical Christian romance by Dawn Kinzer. Marriage of convenience stories are some of my favorites and this had an interesting twist. Set in Washington State in 1909 during Seattle’s first World Fair, the author weaves fascinating historical facts into the story while entertaining a budding romance between two people sworn off marriage.
Both characters had much to overcome on the road to happily ever after. Lizzie’s extremely independent and wants to take over her family’s restaurant business. When her father refuses, she goes to work at the orphanage where her brother teaches. She’s a suffragette who’s vowed never to get married after the death of her fiancé.
Jack gave up his dream for his family’s farm. He has big plans to expand if only he can convince his father. He’s determined never to give his heart or have his trust broken again after his mother’s abandonment. When a childhood friend leaves her baby at the orphanage, he and Lizzie do all they can to find her and care for her son.
The premise was definitely interesting and held my attention. I loved learning about Seattle’s first World Fair, the inventions, some of the strange practices that surprisingly were true, and how other cultures were treated and viewed. There was quite a lot packed into this short novel with several surprises along the way.
The characters were complex and the side characters added an enjoyable touch to the story. I especially liked Helen and Lizzie’s brother Timothy. While this can definitely be read as a standalone, those who’ve read Ms. Kinzer’s previous novels may recognize some familiar characters.
I enjoyed Jack and Lizzie’s slow burn romance. I loved Jack and the way he supported Lizzie’s dreams. The scene at the fair with the gondola ride and fireworks was definitely romantic. Their relationship isn’t without angst. There were several conflicts needing to be resolved and I was pleased to find out why Jack’s mother left. I honestly expected it to play a bigger role than it did.
The historical aspects were really interesting. I would have preferred to have them introduced through more “show” rather than “tell.” Some of the few conversations where facts were introduced were a little awkward for me and didn’t seem to flow naturally.
All in all, a delightful romance with interesting history, and uplifting messages of forgiveness and learning to trust in God. Thanks to the author for providing an advanced copy of her book. All opinions are my own and I was not required to provide a positive review. 3 1/2 stars rounded up to 4.

Have you ever read a book where the character becomes so real that it’s hard to believe she isn’t? That’s how I would describe Elizabeth. The year is 1904 and Elizabeth Ann Everett decides to write a memoir for posterity about the most significant event of her life. She writes captivatingly about the time she spent with the Nez Perce Indian tribe or The People in their flight to Canada in 1877 to escape being forced on a desolate reservation.
On a trip to Yellowstone, a pampered 18 year old Elizabeth realizes her worst fears when her old horse Methuselah spooks and follows an Indian tribe fleeing from the U.S. Government. After several miles, Elizabeth and The People realize it’s too late to turn back and they must learn to deal with each other all the while continually looking for a safe place to leave her. With humor, courage, and an indomitable spirit, Elizabeth communicates her growth and changing feelings as she travels on this unexpected journey with the Nez Perce.
As she shares her thoughts and observations with her infectious humor, I grew to love this character who felt like an old friend whom I could listen to for hours. Her companions, most especially Hawk and Blue Mountain Woman, change her perception of what it means to love, accept, and survive. These characters became very real and endearing as the story progressed. Through starvation, bloodshed, and endless pursuit not only from the U.S. Government but from other Indian tribes as well, Elizabeth shares a unique perspective of what it was like for The People just trying to find a place on land they had dwelt on for centuries. She also finds love not just for The People, but for a man whom she grows to adore.
While sharing the trials of The People, Kelly doesn’t shy away from the disturbing details of war including descriptions of scalpings, and gunshot wounds. For those sensitive to language, there are a few mild swear words used very sparsely. There’s an attempted rape that is somewhat graphic. There are also a couple mentions of sex; one where Elizabeth overhears a prostitute in a room next door, another instance where she briefly observes an Indian couple, and brief innuendo in describing her wedding night with no graphic details. I would still consider this a mostly clean read, but would recommend it for adults just because the subject matter would be more relatable and understandable.
The writing is so captivating that it was a difficult book to put down. The historical aspects and descriptions are so well researched. It’s an epic story that is definitely worth reading. Highly recommend this to those who enjoy great historical fiction. Thank you Carla Kelly for sending me an advanced copy of this great work. All opinions are my own and I was not required to provide a review.

It’s a witty, opposites attract romance with so much heart. I fell in love with Dermot, Evangeline, Ronan, & the darling Yorkshire school children all over again.
With the deaths of most of her immediate family, Evangeline Blake’s forced to leave her comfortable, familiar life to become a school teacher in the hardworking mining Yorkshire town of Smeatley. In order to gain custody of her young sister & receive her inheritance, she must prove herself to her grandfather. Because Evangeline has never had to cook, clean, or even lace up her own corsets, she’s faced with a challenging situation, but she has the grit and determination to succeed . With the help of her gruff, handsome Irish bricklaying neighbor, she learns to cook and thrive in her new life. I loved seeing her help the children of Smeatley learn to read & watch as she achieves small victories with her students.
This is such a heartwarming story! I loved Evangeline & Dermot. Their slow burn romance was achingly beautiful. I loved Dermot’s gruff but charming personality & his witty Irish brogue. I also adored Dermot’s son Ronan and his categories. He’s most likely neurodivergent & I loved the way the author portrayed him. The Yorkshire children & townspeople were endearing as well. I enjoyed learning their words & phrases for things & knowing Sarah Eden’s meticulous research I can count on this being as historically accurate as possible. There’re setbacks that Evangeline must face especially with her remaining family members, but I loved how she was able to find her strength and fight for what she wanted.
The collector’s edition is beautiful! The craftsmanship is excellent & I’ll love having this displayed on my shelf. I also enjoyed the new epilogue that wraps a beautiful bow around this story! It made me long for even more of these characters.
Highly recommend to historical romance fans! I received an advanced complimentary copy from the publisher. All opinions are my own and voluntarily provided....more

This was my first book by Connilyn Cossette & definitely won’t be my last! I’m so glad I read this book prior to reading the sequel Shield of the Mighty as it sets up the series beautifully with four cousins who will no doubt play a central role in this series. I loved the premise of the story; two young characters running away for various reasons who find themselves and their true purpose together in this brilliantly written coming of age story. The swoonworthy romance, a FMC in disguise, plenty of action & adventure, and a darling horse with his own uniquely endearing personality made this one enjoyable read!
Avidan or Avi is a Levite whose family expects him to carry on his family’s traditions, but Avi wants to fight for the newly crowned King Saul. He runs away with his cousins to fight the Ammonites but gets more than he bargained for. When one of his cousins disappears, he goes in search of him & finds a young boy & his horse. The “young boy” turns out to be a young woman running away and together they team up to find her mother’s family & Avi’s cousin.
Keziah is the daughter of a wealthy chief who’s promised her in marriage to an undesirable yet powerful man. To escape, she dresses as a boy and takes her trusty horse Sarru. On her journey, she meets Avi & together find danger, adventure, and romance. Keziah also learns about the One True God and comes to rely on Him as she faces difficult challenges along the way.
This was such a great story! I appreciated the careful research the author did that really brought this era of the Bible to life. I enjoyed the journey these two main characters went on of self discovery & faith. I also enjoyed seeing Keziah turn away from her pagan goddess and learn to trust in Yahweh. The romance and banter was so good & the swimming scene was my favorite! Sarru the horse definitely steals the show & I loved his fun personality.
Looking forward to the next books in the series! Highly recommend to Biblical & Christian fiction fans....more
Crisp, witty dialogue, fast paced action, a delectable rivals to more romance, and a glamorous roaring 20’s setting made the Winged Tiara an absolute Crisp, witty dialogue, fast paced action, a delectable rivals to more romance, and a glamorous roaring 20’s setting made the Winged Tiara an absolute favorite! From the very first I was drawn into this engaging story with estranged husband and wife jewel thieves. I loved these endearingly flawed characters who kept me on my toes as they race to find and steal the valuable Valkyrie tiara. It’s a well written, captivating novel that I can’t wait to read again.
After celebrating Armistice Day, Esme Fox was startled to wake up married. Before her new husband could open his eyes, she hurriedly left taking only their wedding photo with her. Now four years later they meet again at a wealthy heiress’ party. Both accomplished thieves, they each try to outwit the other to gain possession of the famed Valkyrie tiara. But while the chemistry sizzles between them, Esme staunchly adheres to her mother’s advice to never risk an emotional attachment.
Jasper Truitt was born on the wrong side of the blanket and has been trying to prove his worth to his grandfather ever since. Though he still dreams of the woman who captured his heart four years ago, he’s learned to stifle his feelings until he sees her again. As the Phantom, he’s developed an infamous reputation as a jewel thief & this time, the prize is personal. He’ll go to any lengths to get it even if it means working with his estranged wife. Unfortunately, there are others who are after it as well & it’ll take both of their skills to get it.
I loved this book! From the 20’s lingo to the exciting race to get the tiara to the sizzling attraction and exquisite fashion, this book was impossible to put down. I loved the complicated relationship between Esme & Jasper. Both grew up in difficult circumstances which leads to a commiserating understanding between them. Unfortunately, being vulnerable is not Esme’s strong suit and so the battle for the tiara as well as Esme’s heart is fierce. But, I was here for all of it & enjoyed every minute. I also enjoyed the side characters, even the infuriating Lamb. I’m hoping the author considers turning this into a series. I’d love to read more about Esme’s and Jasper’s adventures.

Stephenia McGee knows how to create that delightful romantic tension and this book was oozing with it. I loved the instant chemistry between the spunky Captain Camilla Lockhart and the resolute attorney Daniel Gray.
Captain Camilla Lockhart took over her father’s shipping business after his mysterious death. She believes that his obsession with finding a lost treasure is what got him killed. So, when a handsome attorney shows up on her boat wanting to seek after this same treasure, she’s determined to turn him down. But, his offer proves tempting when her circumstances become dire and she needs funds to keep her crew fed.
Told from both Camilla’s & Daniel’s points of view, this fun treasure hunting adventure had me quickly turning the pages. Their connection and attraction is instant, but as they follow the clues to the mystery, they have to decide if they really trust each other. I loved the mystery dating back to the Civil War, the 1920’s feel with bootleggers and speakeasies, and the sizzling undercurrent of attraction throughout.
I loved both Camilla & Daniel. Being raised by her father, Camilla’s riverboat life makes her such a strong, unique personality. I loved her genuineness and spunk. Daniel is a noble hero who’s just trying to save his sister and nephew. I enjoyed their faith and how they worked together to unravel the clues.
The mystery was filled with twists and turns that kept me turning the pages. I also enjoyed all the side characters who added so much to the story. I especially liked Lucas (Daniel’s little nephew), Hattie and her wisdom, and Camilla’s dog Lula.

Mackinac Island Beacon is the extended novel of a novella Love’s Beacon in The Great Lakes Lighthouse Brides Collection. Since I wasn’t familiar with the previous books in the series or the novella, it took me a bit to figure out all the characters and relationships. Luckily, there’s a character guide at the beginning of the book. After a few chapters, I was easily drawn into this compelling story.
Susan Johnson’s been working at a Catholic mission after being orphaned at twelve. A brief encounter with a young woman from the Round Island Lighthouse leads to a fast friendship especially when she’s forced to stay at the mission. Valerie Fillman finds herself stranded after a rare visit into town to get medicine for her sick family. Forced to stay at the mission with Susan, Valerie’s strange dreams begin to haunt her and old memories resurface. As these new friends explore their pasts, old friends return which further complicate matters especially of the heart. Could one of these women be the long lost missing daughter of an aristocratic English family?
This lovely story had two enjoyable romances revolving around these young women and the handsome men from their pasts. I loved how neither one was predictable and grew as the story progressed. The mystery was a slow build puzzle of how these women’s lives entwined and the heartbreaking story of how one of them went missing.
I enjoyed the faith arc with the theme of Romans 8:28 that God works everything for our good. I loved how this was woven in throughout the story in an inspiring way. Though the characters experienced heartache and abuse in some cases, eventually they were each able to find reconciliation and happiness.
Definitely recommend this story to Christian historical fiction fans. I’m looking forward to going back and reading the previous books in the series. I received an advanced complimentary copy from JustRead Tours but also purchased a copy through Kindle Unlimited. All opinions are my own and voluntarily provided. ...more
Another amazing book in the King’s Men series! Shield of the Mighty is an inspiring, thrilling story with action, romance, & compelling characters! CoAnother amazing book in the King’s Men series! Shield of the Mighty is an inspiring, thrilling story with action, romance, & compelling characters! Connilyn Cossette brings so much heart to this faith filled story. I enjoyed the instant attraction, captor/captive, slow burn romance and the beautiful messages woven throughout the story. I loved the way this Biblical time period was brought to life in such a vivid, exciting way.
Zevi was captured by the Philistines as a young boy, but is now a formidable warrior fighting for King Saul. He wants revenge against the people who inflicted so much pain on him & his people. Returning to Maresha, the place he called home before his capture brings back bittersweet memories as he tries to recruit men to fight in Saul’s army. When he steps into a perfumer’s shop, he’s instantly attracted to the beautiful owner. While they’re at odds over King Saul, he admires her skills & determines to have her travel back with him.
Yochana’s a talented perfumer & adept businesswoman now a widow after her husband of only a few months was killed fighting for King Saul. Her bitter resentment over his death causes her to work against the King. When a handsome stranger arrives in her shop she’s immediately attracted to him, but when she finds out he’s a soldier recruiting men to fight for Saul, it exacerbates her anger. Finding herself forced on a journey to see the King, her anger soon cools as she learns more about Zevi and his cause. On their journey, they face dangers, betrayals, intrigue, and their own pasts as their attraction turns to love.
I adored this story! Zevi’s & Yochana’s relationship starts out on the wrong foot where he’s her captor. As they get to know each other, Zevi regrets his actions and realizes they make him like the very enemies he resented. I enjoyed seeing his growth as his single focused mission begins to change. Yochana is such a kind, sympathetic character & I enjoyed learning more about her unique profession. I loved how Yochana & Zevi both come to the realization that revenge is best left in God’s hands. There are some definite surprises that kept me quickly turning the pages & I enjoyed the time spent with Zevi’s adopted family. There’s also the continued story of Zevi’s lost cousin from the previous book & I can’t wait to learn his story.
Highly recommend to historical & Biblical fiction fans! I received an advanced complimentary copy from the publisher. All opinions are my own and voluntarily provided....more

A Presumptous Hope was such a delight to read. I loved the witty dialogue, enemies to lovers vibe, & sweet romance. From their nearly disastrous first meeting, to Christine’s embarrassing mistakes, to their mutual distaste yet attraction for each other, this book was impossible to put down. I couldn’t wait to see how the two main characters would ever get together.
Christine Grey’s a beautiful spinster who’s resigned herself to being her brother’s hostess. Though she’d love to have a family of her own, she enjoys caring for animals, baking, decorating, and helping her brother run his estate. She’s willing to work hard right alongside the servants & this gets her in trouble when the neighbor who nearly ran over her dogs happens to call & mistakes her for a servant. It goes downhill from there. Every encounter unfortunately gives the wrong impression of the shy Christine. Though there’s a mutual unwanted attraction, it isn’t until they’re forced in each other’s company that they really get to see the other in a different light.
Sir Alexander Thorne’s a newly titled gentleman who’s built his fortune through his engineering abilities. He’s just purchased an estate in Horncastle in need of repair, and hoping to run for parliament. He’s looking for a wife who will elevate his status in the ton. He also has high expectations from his older brother who wants him to introduce his daughters to Society. Christine Grey is definitely not the woman for him. However, despite their disastrous encounters, he finds her unnervingly attractive & when they’re faced with a forced marriage, he begins to think he could get used to the idea.
I loved Christine & Alex! I could definitely identify with Christine who seems to have a knack for finding herself in awkward situations. She’s such a caring person who has a tender heart for animals. I enjoyed seeing Alex see that side of her despite her embarrassing moments. Alex is a charming if a bit gruff gentleman who thinks he wants one thing only to realize who he really wants is Christine. I loved how their romance played out.
Their forced proximity was my favorite part especially when it involves being trapped together. I loved the underlying tension between them. Though Alex is ever the gentleman, the fact that they were forced to spend the night together in a small cabin is enough to get the ton’s tongues wagging & demanding a marriage. I enjoyed seeing them navigate their situation especially when neither one was especially thrilled to get married.
Highly recommend this delightful Regency! Though it’s part of a series it can be read as a standalone, however it was so fun seeing characters from previous books. I received an advanced complimentary copy from the author. All opinions are my own & voluntarily provided. ...more

Beneath a“Love was something to be protected, relished, and used as a source of strength, even when everything else felt hard. Maybe especially then.”
Beneath a Crescent Shadow is a masterpiece of storytelling! Full of romance, intrigue, betrayal, war, forgiveness, and reconciliation, this sweeping story was impossible to put down. I love the way A.L. Sowards brings history to life. She infuses her stories with compelling characters, fascinating historical detail, and a touch of faith that pulls me in every time.
Set in the Balkans in the late 1300’s, this story portrays the struggles of Konstantin, a Zupan (Serbian Lord), and his people as they survive famine, arson, attacking brigands, and oppression from Ottoman overlords. On the verge of bankruptcy and needing to come up with funds to pay the Sultan, Konstantin agrees to an arranged marriage to fill his empty coffers. Suzana, the beautiful stranger he marries, soon becomes his treasured wife as he gently breaks down her walls and offers her love, acceptance, faith, and family. But, Kostantin is forced to fight for the Sultan and the fierce battles and aftermath leave him shaken. Facing unimaginable losses and betrayals, he and Suzana must work together to save their marriage and their people from the onslaught of rivals and the Ottoman Empire.
I loved Konstantin’s & Suzana’s love story. Suzana has a troubled past and I enjoyed how tender and patient Konstantin was with her. Their marriage is filled with ups and downs as they face moments of joy & sorrow. I loved how they learned to face trials together and grew in their love. I loved the messages of forgiveness, reconciliation, and faith. I also loved the side characters and the richness they added to the story. Young Ivan & Danilo provide some fun, lighter moments and I can’t wait to read their stories.
The tumultuous battles were portrayed in such a realistic yet tasteful way. I felt like I was right there and found myself furiously turning the pages during these action packed scenes. I appreciated that although the battles are fierce, the author doesn’t include unnecessary graphic detail. Beyond the Sultan’s battles, there are traitors in their midst and I was shocked and surprised by the depth of the betrayal.
All the stars for this brilliantly written, beautiful story! Highly recommend to historical fiction/romance fans! I can’t wait to read the next book in the series. Though this is the first book in the series, I recommend reading the prequel After the Crescent Strike which provides more insight into these characters and the history. I received an advanced complimentary copy from the author & publisher. All opinions are my own and voluntarily provided.

I was captivated by this facinating WWII story based on actual events & the famous Janów Podlaski stables in Poland which bred world reknown Arabian horses. I was on pins and needles as American Adia Kensington determines to save these prize horses from both the Germans and Russians with the help of other trainers, a young boy, and a British intelligence officer disguised as a reporter. The romance and suspense kept me eagerly turning the pages with danger at every turn.
Adia’s such an amazing character. Though American, she’s adopted Wygoda as her second home where she cares for her beloved horses. Before she can transport Lubor, her prized stallion to the U.S. the Germans invade Poland. As air strikes and ground troops threaten the stables, she attempts to lead several hundred horses across Poland to safety. Blocked at every turn, Adia and her companions including Ewan, a endearing seven year old thief, and Bret Conway, the British intelligence office face all kinds of hardships as they try to protect the animals.
Major Bret Conway, a British intelligence officer disguised as a news reporter, is in Poland to gather intelligence. When he meets Adia Kensington, he’s enamored by her, but before he can take her to dinner, tragedy strikes. As he promises to protect her and her horses, he finds himself fully embedded in the Polish village as the Germans invade. Keeping his identity secret, he risks everything including death and capture to help transport Adia’s horses.
I adored the romance between Adia and Bret. Their delightful meet-cute begins with a stolen pocket watch. Through all their experiences, they come to admire and love each other and I enjoyed watching their relationship bloom. The horses themselves are fabulous characters and I loved how the author captured their personalities and really made me care for them and their plight. I also enjoyed the friendships which developed between Bret, Adia, the young boy Ewan, and many others as they work to save the horses as well as their countrymen. I don’t want to give too much away because this story takes one turn after another and it’s more exciting not knowing what comes next. Needless to say there are many tense moments where lives are risked to obtain intelligence and save others. It’s a thrilling adventure that was so hard to put down.
Highly recommend to historical fiction, WWII, and horse lovers! I’m looking forward to this author’s next book! I received an advanced complimenary copy from the publisher. All opinions are my own and voluntarily provided. 4.5 raised to 5 stars!...more
Danger, secrets, romance, and the punishing deserts of the Wild West! I was so excited to return to the Chaparral Hearts series! I thoroughly enjoyed Danger, secrets, romance, and the punishing deserts of the Wild West! I was so excited to return to the Chaparral Hearts series! I thoroughly enjoyed Murmur in the Mud Caves and was looking forward to reading Lucy’s & Preston’s story. This book starts off with a bang and doesn’t let go. For those who’ve read Murmur in the Mudcaves, Shoot at the Sunset goes back in time sharing Lucy’s POV before she and Biddie travel to Ginny’s desert ranch in Southern California. It provides enough background so readers new to the series will know what’s going on, and those familiar with the story will have a bit of a review.
This story was all about overcoming fear and learning to trust. The story’s told from three points of view. Lucy’s on the run after witnessing something she shouldn’t while working as a hotel maid. Fearing for the safety of her mother & friends, she leaps at the opportunity to travel with Biddie who’s traveling to her sister Ginny’s ranch. Lucy’s mother is suffering from addiction and PTSD. Determined to overcome her issues, she secretly works for the same hotel hoping to find evidence of the secret which made Lucy run. Preston is Ginny’s and Biddie’s brother who’s been working as a sharpshooter for a traveling sideshow. When he receives a letter from Ginny, he travels to the ranch willing to offer temporary help. Preston’s fighting his own troubled past and worries about his temper.
As these three individuals try to overcome their difficulties and turn to God, they also face danger in the form of evil crooks who’ll stop at nothing to protect themselves. There’s also the sizzling romance between Lucy & Preston. Lucy already has a suitor, but the more she’s around Preston, the more she longs for the bad boy. But, loving Preston is dangerous and she worries she’ll turn out just like her mother.
This book had lots of heart and dealt with some pretty intense subject matter. The author does a fantastic job addressing each of these issues in a gentle, sensitive way. Concerned readers should definitely read the author’s note at the beginning of the book. That said, I appreciated how she wove faith and trust throughout the story and showed how each person found redemption through discovering their faith.
Highly recommend to Western Christian romance fans! The whole series is fabulous! I recommend reading the books in order for the most possible enjoyment, but they can be read as standalones. I received an advanced complimentary copy from the author but also purchased a copy through Kindle Unlimited. All opinions are my own and voluntarily provided....more
An irresistible twist on the Cinderella fairytale! I adore Anneka Walker’s fairytale retellings & The Lady Glass’ a new favorite. This third book in tAn irresistible twist on the Cinderella fairytale! I adore Anneka Walker’s fairytale retellings & The Lady Glass’ a new favorite. This third book in the Enchanted Regency Romance series is filled with mystery, romance, spies, & so many clever nods to the original fairytale.
The only thing Theresia Dvorak has left of her family is a priceless vase made by her brilliant glassblower father, meant to be her dowry. When her cruel stepmother sells the vase, Theresia embarks on a daring mission to retrieve it. She sneaks into a house party where she believes the vase is only to be discovered by the handsome gentleman throwing it. Though suspicious at first, he believes her & enlists her help in rooting out a murderer.
Captain Rolland Reese returned from the war scarred in more ways than one. He’s also returned to find a plot to murder his father. He decides to throw a house party as a way to ferret out the murderer. The gorgeous beauty he finds sneaking into his room also finds a way into his previously shuttered heart. As they work together to find her vase & the suspected murderer, they face danger, mystery, & love.
Theresia’s an amazingly talented, strong Cinderella. I enjoyed her quick wit & thoughtful personality. Loved the witty banter between her & Rolland & their sigh-worthy romance. Rolland’s a wounded hero, but every bit the charming prince. I enjoyed the ways he & Theresia grew together as the story progressed.
All the nods to the fairytale were fantastic including: the cinders, a mysterious godfather, a conniving stepmother, beautiful dresses that magically appear, an innocent stepsister, glass slippers & how she loses one, the ball, & so many others.
The mystery added an exciting element & kept me guessing. Loved the house party setting with all the suspects. Along with the intriguing mystery & romance were beautiful messages of sacrifice, true love/friendship, & the real meaning of the treasure woven throughout the story.
A creative twist on the original that’s a must read for Regency mystery/romance & fairytale fans. I received an advanced complimentary copy from the author & publisher. All opinions are my own and voluntarily provided. 4.5-5 stars!...more

A Sham Betrothal was so mucI always jump at the chance to read a Jennie Goutet novel. I thoroughly enjoy her gorgeous writing & endearing characters. A Sham Betrothal was so much fun! Fake engagement tropes are definitely a favorite especially when one or both of the participants wishes it were real. Throw in a gorgeous French setting, a handsome Frenchman, & all the glitz & glamour of the Georgian era & you have one deliciously enjoyable romance!
Sophie Twisden’s visiting Paris with her grandmother who’s recently become ill. When an overbearing, unwanted suitor takes it upon himself to care for Sophie & her grandmother, a veritable stranger steps in. The handsome Frenchman Basile de Gervain declares himself to be Sophie’s betrothed, but, he’s no ordinary Frenchman, he’s a marquis. Assuring Sophie that she’ll not suffer any repercussions when they break their engagement, she reluctantly accepts his offer.
Basile seizes the opportunity to be Sophie’s betrothed not only to protect her, but to stave off the unwanted attention of a former love. But, spending time with Sophie may lead to something more than just friendship. Is he willing to give his heart to make their fake engagement real? And what happens when Sophie must return home to England?
I loved this story so much! Jennie Goutet knows how to write delightful romantic tension. Basile’s a flirt, but when Sophie decides two can play at that game, watch out! I loved the opera scene! Not only is there all the drama of a fake betrothal, but there’re a couple of nasty villains in the story, ones you love to hate. I couldn’t wait to see them disappointed in their machinations.
If you’re a fan of historical romance, this is a must read! Though it’s part of the Georgians in Paris series, each novel is easily read as a standalone. Highly recommend this fun, delightful romance! I received an advanced complimentary copy from the author. All opinions are my own and voluntarily provided....more
Ahh! I loved this 2nd book in the High Country Ranch series. Jody Hedlund delivers another unforgettable, sizzling Western romance in Willing to Wed tAhh! I loved this 2nd book in the High Country Ranch series. Jody Hedlund delivers another unforgettable, sizzling Western romance in Willing to Wed the Rancher. There was so much to love about this book: twin sisters, love at first sight, a well done love triangle, & mystery! All the makings for a great read.
I quickly fell in love with Franz & Clarabelle. Clarabelle’s a sweet, lovely young woman who was pressured to marry Eric Meyer, a widower with two small children. But, Clarabelle wants to marry for love. Before she can tell him no, he’s murdered & willed her his home & custody of his children.
Eric’s wealthy brother Franz has just arrived in Colorado from Germany & immediately finds himself falling in love at first sight with Clarabelle. Franz’s a handsome, intelligent professor & secret nobleman. Not knowing Clarabelle’s a twin he ends up flirting with her sister before he realizes his mistake. As he & Clarabelle try to unravel the mystery of Eric’s death, Clarabelle has to decide if she’ll give in to her feelings for Franz or hurt the sister she loves so dearly.
Clarabelle’s such a kind person & self sacrificing to a fault, definitely more quiet & subservient than her outgoing sister, Clementine. Her chemistry with Franz is off the charts & I was hoping throughout she’d choose Franz & listen to her feelings. There are definitely some amazing swoon-worthy, close proximity situations with all the feels, yet kept appropriately closed door.
Franz was so much fun! I loved how he interacted with his cute niece & nephew & tried to relieve some of the burden placed on Clarabelle’s shoulders. I enjoyed learning more about his backstory & his desire to mend fences with his brother.
The mystery kept me guessing. There’s plenty of danger & suspense as Clarabelle & Franz get closer to the truth. While I had an inkling as to who might be involved, it was fun to see how everything played out.
Highly recommend this must read for Western romance fans! While part of a series, it can definitely be read as a standalone though I recommend reading the first book.
