She finds herself in a pickle- her previous boss Dave Hammond is representing local boy Andrew against Cody, for his fair share of the money Cody got for 'their' song. TSomehow (lol) Abby is in the thick of a mystery that seems to involve not only her, but her cousin and niece as well in a case of mistaken identity. *3½ Stars* The final piece of the familial puzzle is put into place for the Blake siblings. Garrett is off on his adventure, being named Baron of the Cinque Ports Fleet for the King, after having been saved by Madoc (Blake sibling #3, one of the twins) in the last book. Garrett is set on defeating the pirates causing their fleet trouble, and ends up being captured... in more ways than one. Echo is not your typical pirate, nor does she act a lady, but she and Garrett are set on their own whirlwind adventure to discover not only their love, but their life. The narration isn't my favorite- I like Kevin's voice well enough, until he does a woman or child, then I'm not a fan (sorry!). Elizabeth Rose has done it again, with a lively cast of characters... Strong (and hard-headed) Storm, the Devilishly suave Trippet, fortune-telling Zara, young and bright Renaud, the brave women renegades, and Wren, the blind leader of the renegades. I really wanted to like Wren, but she made me so mad with her choices and oftentimes selfish decisions. Storm had a lot to learn, but I think he finally got there in the end! This is part of a series, but it is written well, so can be easily understood as a stand alone. I much preferred Kevin's performance in this reading, as his Scot's burr was more enjoyable, but I still have a hard time with his voicing of women & children.. I knew Madoc figured in! Another thread has been pulled into the tapestry of the Blake family, and the craftiness of Madoc is insane. The characters were well written, as some I loved (& felt heartache for) and some needed to be slapped! Lady Abigail got the man that she loved, but I am definitely not her fan- maybe because I am a woman, but she drove me nuts with her selfishness and lack of general common sense. I'm looking forward to the search for the last sibling! Kevin's narration is ok- I like his reading voice, but not his woman or child voice (sorry!). A good story by Elizabeth Rose, but here is my full disclosure: she wrote the characters well- Lord Corbett needed a good smack upside his dense head, the Baroness was insufferable, the Baron a doll, Malcolm- I hated at first, but grew to like, and Devon... Devon I did not like. I yelled at her, I wanted to throttle her or even smack her at times! But the hero loves whom he loves. I also need to admit I wasn't overly fond of the narrator- he did well in the general reading of the story & a couple of the characters, but the rest, meh. As always, use headphones for the bedroom scenes if children are present. ...more
