I felt happy while reading. I honestly didn't want it to end. Anne Shirley is, by far, the best literature character. Her enthusiasm about the simple things in life is refreshing, and a gentle reminder to us all. Marilla and Matthew reminded me of a time in life with my grandparents. I lived with them, as an only grandchild, for many years. I cried many tears of happy memories from a time long ago. I only wish I would have read this book as a child. However, reading in my forties has only enhanced my first time experience with this book. I will be continuing on in the series. I recommend this book to all, young and old. It is a new favorite and will be one I talk to others about often! And it will most definitely be a re-read whenever I need comfort and a good laugh!...more

This book has the best example of a character truly living for Jesus that I have ever read! The main character, Hadassah, is a Jewish slave to a Roman family. She is, also, a Christian. And she has lost everything and everyone dear to her. Yet, she still serves these people with a sacrificial forgiving heart, praying for their salvation and eyes to be opened, even as they mistreat her. She truly knows what it means to die to self and walk like Christ. Following in his steps till the very end. I cried at the mistreatment, injustice and persecution. I, also, found encouragement, strength, and an increase of faith while reading her struggles and journey. I cried as she found freedom from fear. I’ve read many Christian Fiction books, but none like this. I really do feel changed from reading this story and would recommend this book to every Christian! ...more
