The premise of this one is the fight to prove the innocence of those that are wrongly accused. Mickey wins a case and it was so satisfying, he decides to try another one. And this time he brings in Bosch for help. Actually, Mickey is helping Bosch as well. Bosch has leukemia so Mickey hires him so he has insurance and can participate in a new drug trial. The innocent, is Lucinda. She pleaded no contest at the advice of her lawyer. She supposedly killed her husband. But something didn’t seem right in the evidence Bosch was asked to review. So Mickey petitions the court to hear the case and they accept. Now the hard part. It turns out the husband was part of a “sheriff gang” and was meeting secretly with the FBI. Mickey and Bosch with the help of Mickey’s PI, try and figure out of Lucinda was framed. I was really surprised at the ending. It was so good. Connelly’s books NEVER disappoint I am however, going to say it again, as a fan. I could do without the political comments you have sprinkled in. It’s irrelevant and annoying....more

The only reason I chose it was because I couldn’t download the library books I had picked to read on my vacation. I am so glad I chose this. This is the first published book by this author and it’s a good one. The setting is Australia. I don’t think I have read many books that have taken place in Australia. I love the concept of the lighthouse keeper. I have visited many lighthouses in the US. They are amazing. The story was riveting, kept my attention and flowed nicely. The ending was satisfying. Quick summary of the plot. Tom is a war veteran who becomes a keeper of a lighthouse off the coast of Australia. He falls in love with a woman named Isabel and they marry and live on the island. After several miscarriages, Isabel is struggling with becoming a mom. Then, one day, a boat capsizes on the island with a dead man and a baby, who is alive! Tom and Isabel raise her as their own, but neglect to tell anyone about the baby they have found. Everything is great until someone reveals a potential match of Lucy to a missing child from the Mainland. Then it all falls apart. The beauty of this book is, the author takes each character through very legitimate revelations and thought process that reflects a tormented human heart in times of extreme stress. The result is almost always what makes the most sense and is the best for everyone. That’s why I liked this book so much. I would definitely read another by this author!...more
