The premise of this one is the fight to prove the innocence of those that are wrongly accused. Mickey wins a case and it was so satisfying, he decides to try another one. And this time he brings in Bosch for help. Actually, Mickey is helping Bosch as well. Bosch has leukemia so Mickey hires him so he has insurance and can participate in a new drug trial. The innocent, is Lucinda. She pleaded no contest at the advice of her lawyer. She supposedly killed her husband. But something didn’t seem right in the evidence Bosch was asked to review. So Mickey petitions the court to hear the case and they accept. Now the hard part. It turns out the husband was part of a “sheriff gang” and was meeting secretly with the FBI. Mickey and Bosch with the help of Mickey’s PI, try and figure out of Lucinda was framed. I was really surprised at the ending. It was so good. Connelly’s books NEVER disappoint I am however, going to say it again, as a fan. I could do without the political comments you have sprinkled in. It’s irrelevant and annoying....more

The only reason I chose it was because I couldn’t download the library books I had picked to read on my vacation. I am so glad I chose this. This is the first published book by this author and it’s a good one. The setting is Australia. I don’t think I have read many books that have taken place in Australia. I love the concept of the lighthouse keeper. I have visited many lighthouses in the US. They are amazing. The story was riveting, kept my attention and flowed nicely. The ending was satisfying. Quick summary of the plot. Tom is a war veteran who becomes a keeper of a lighthouse off the coast of Australia. He falls in love with a woman named Isabel and they marry and live on the island. After several miscarriages, Isabel is struggling with becoming a mom. Then, one day, a boat capsizes on the island with a dead man and a baby, who is alive! Tom and Isabel raise her as their own, but neglect to tell anyone about the baby they have found. Everything is great until someone reveals a potential match of Lucy to a missing child from the Mainland. Then it all falls apart. The beauty of this book is, the author takes each character through very legitimate revelations and thought process that reflects a tormented human heart in times of extreme stress. The result is almost always what makes the most sense and is the best for everyone. That’s why I liked this book so much. I would definitely read another by this author!...more

The plot. Lina lives in NYC and works for an engineering firm. She moved to NYC after having her heart broken in her home country, Spain. Soon, she will be attending her sister’s wedding back in Spain and she does not want to go there alone. Against her own discretion, she agrees to have her co-worker Aaron pretend to be her boyfriend and accompany her to Spain. What she doesn’t realize is what she thinks the feelings shared by her and Aaron are totally fake, she learns of the hidden reason why Aaron has been there for her along the way and maybe here heart has been deceiving her all along.
I have taken a break from my normal reading genre lately to just read some romance…but now I am ready to go back to where I feel most comfortable. For all you fluff fans out there, this is definitely a great summer read! Enjoy it!...more

Thankfully, Molly has some good friends who support her and help her get through this nightmare.
Molly is on the spectrum and her character is very likable. You really want to cheer for her, especially when she is bullied or treated unfairly. I loved the concept, the setting and the cast of characters. This definitely stands out from other books! I hear there is a second book available in this series. I will definitely be interested.

Bernie is quickly highered back when the threat becomes real and Princess and er master disappear. Enter in Bernie’s old flame, Susie. She is also trying to find out where Princess is.
Just like the last book, Bernie and Chet get separated. It just seems a bit far fetched and a repeated plot from last book. Maybe because of the narration as a dog, the book kind of bounces around and I kinda got lost in all of the confusion. I wasn’t that impressed with the ending. Especially since it ended as a cliff hanger which forces you to read the next book. I hate that.
I need to think hard about going on to read the next book. This series just doesn’t grab me like other thrillers do. ...more

In a nutshell, Britney’s family took full advantage of Britney’s talent and money making capabilities and totally abused her through the conservatorship. Britney isn’t perfect, but a lot of her issues is because of the way her family treated her. Especially, her father. I was never a big fan of Britney Spears. I never thought she was more talented than Christina. After reading this book and watching some videos on YouTube, I changed my mind a bit. Britney is talented. She can sing and dance. There are always 2 sides to every story, I get that. But nothing can take away from the fact that Britney was bound to this conservatorship and it was not good for her. If anything, this book gives you perspective of her childhood, her love for Justin Timberlake, her career and her family. Britney isn’t innocent, however, she definitely had a tough time dealing with a dysfunctional family and bad relationship choices. The writing isn’t great but my perspective of Britney, her talent and her life has definitely changed....more

Chief Inspector Armand Gamache is on the case. There is a lot more to this book besides solving a mystery. There is also poetry and art. I think the author did a good job weaving this in. I also liked the characters. The problem I did have with this book, was the ending. It just wasn’t enough to get closure and there really wasn’t an exciting climax. I’ll be honest, I’m not sure I’m up for continuing the series. I read too many as it is....more

I was blown away by the realization on pg 210 chapter 34. This really changed the direction of Elvis’s investigation. The excitement wasn’t subdued, it continued. The quick summary of the plot is: A man is found dead in his house of apparent suicide and a scrapbook of photos is found on his lap that contained pictures of women who had been murdered. The man turns out to be a guy who Elvis was able to prove he was innocent of one of the those murders. But still, it appeared the cops couldn’t get past the strong evidence this guy should not have been set free. Elvis is adamant, he had very strong evidence this guy couldn’t have possibly killed Yvonne Bennett. So, Elvis decides to perform his own investigation and find out what really happened. In the mean time, the family of Debra Repko is out for revenge. Her brothers find Elvis and toss him around a bit. But Elvis is not deterred. He visits Debra’s parents and tell them he will not give up until he finds the real murderer of their daughter. The problem with the ending was, the reader is not 100% sure exactly what truly happened. Too many loose ends and some far fetched assumptions. The ending ruined a 5 for me. I still loved the book, but I did not like how this ended....more

There is a lot of twists and turns in this one. I was definitely on the edge of my seat. Cole plays a minor part in support of Pike. The background of Pike and the interaction between him and the girl make this even more interesting. I really enjoyed this and thought it was one of the better books in the Cole-Pike series....more
I enjoyed this book #6 in the series. It wasn’t as good as some of the others but still riveting and action packed. The thing I love about these books I enjoyed this book #6 in the series. It wasn’t as good as some of the others but still riveting and action packed. The thing I love about these books is, the climate related to global terrorism that Flynn writes about in early 2000’s, has a lot of similarity of today’s. It’s fascinating. This book had 2 story lines happening at the same time. And I’m still asking myself if they were at all related….The interesting aspect was the influence of the Islamic aspect in the Philippines. The practice of Islamic religion has been on the island since the 14th century. I had no idea. Anyway, the other story was related to Israel and the desire for a free Palestinian state in Gaza. Flynn created a character that played on both sides of the Israel/Palestine fence. His plan, with the help of some others, was ingenious. And dangerous. Of course, this is where Mitch comes in. I, like some of the other readers, can’t stand Anna. She is whinny and immature. Not the type of woman I picture Mitch with. And I actually thought she as long gone after the previous book. Reminds me of Susan in the Spenser series. Can’t stand her either. I really like this series and will continue to plow through these books. I may take a break and try something else that’s a little less intense....more

There are some politicians who absolutely do not want this to happen and they will do anything to stop it. The global political climate is heating up. The head of Isreal’s center of intelligence (Mossad) has information that Saddam Hussein is hiding nuclear weapons below a hospital in Iraq and is asking the US to do something about it. In the meantime, Mitch Rapp is in love with Anna Reilley. They are going to Italy where he is planning on getting engaged. But he needs to take care of some business first. Confronting Donnatella about who hired her to kill Peter Cameron. The guy who tried to kill Mitch. In the meantime, Ben Friedman has made the reluctant decision to have Donnatella killed. In the meantime, Senator Clark is working underhandedly to oust Dr Kennedy himself by indirectly providing one of her vehement enemies with some very controversial information which will reveal Mitch as an assassin.
I really liked this book but I found it hauntingly realistic. Too realistic after all that happened on 9/11. This book was written before the towers came down and yet the plot about Saddam hiding weapons of mass destruction is almost a foreshadowing of what was yet to come. But not in a fictional book, real life. It’s almost like this author knew things about what was really happening in the world and wrote a book about it to expose it. And then after 9/11 we go after Saddam because we think he has nuclear weapons and then find out he doesn’t? It makes you wonder if Isreal told us he did and we went after him without confirming. Or, maybe he did and just moved them to a place we still don’t even know about.
I’m going to read the next book in the series because I need to know more. I just find this way too much of a coincidence that this author came dangerously close to the truth before it even happened....more

This book was OK. Wasn’t exceptional. This is the 30th book of the series and sometimes I feel like I’ve read this book before. The mob going after Spenser and Hawk is a common theme. I wonder if the author was suffering while writing this book. He died just a couple years after this book was published. I have had difficulty staying on top of all the mini plots and characters of this series. And this one was just like the rest of them. The book was about the Turkish in Chicago. A Turkish doctor is killed supposedly for a journal that, if true, may change the history of the relationship between the Turkish and Armenians. This is a key point since Turkey so desperately wants to become part of the European Union. But, because of the historical depiction of the massacre of Armenians by the Turks during WWI, membership is off the table. This journal could change everything. Then you have Elsie and Jamie. They want to get ahead in life, so they decide to become muggers. They choose a sharp dressed man with a briefcase. But the attack goes terribly wrong when an insomniac approaches right before the planned attack. This storyline is not related to the Turkish one. But somehow this indirectly involves Bill. The continued story line of the main characters is interesting Bill is a new father. Abe’s daughter Lisa is pregnant. Maish wants to leave the synagogue

I purchased this book several years ago because I used to watch”Inside the Actors Studio” and thought it would be interesting to revisit the episodes I purchased this book several years ago because I used to watch”Inside the Actors Studio” and thought it would be interesting to revisit the episodes by reading the book. Well….the book is a self serving, pat on the back type of autobiographical depiction of the person who invented and guided the program to a nominal amount of success. I was turned off at first, but the life of James Lipton is actually pretty interesting. He was actually a Pimp in Paris. He is a pilot and equestrian. He produced all of the Bob Hope specials and of course he was the host to the infamous “Inside the Actors Studio” where he questioned and prodded actors until they revealed their most inter most thoughts and feelings about themselves and their craft. James Lipton is an incredible writer. I do not have the patience to go back and reread some of the subtle humor he dropped in amongst his elaborate vocabulary He is a bit arrogant and egotistical. I probably would have given a rating of 4 if some of the autobiographical dribble was cut. The best part of this book is the Inside the Actors studio recap. You really get to know some of the actors by what was said on this show. The book gives you a little more since some of the actors stayed for hours. Not at all captured in the recordings of the program. The ending of the book was also pretty interesting. Lipton gives the reader a blow by blow of how the school’s demise was driven by a new leader, Bob Kerry, a Democrat politician. You can tell by the tone, Lipton is pissed. It’s amazing he used the last chapter to let loose on the details behind the demise of the school. A rescue by Pace University doesn’t really do it justice. I don’t think it will ever be the same. And now especially since this author has passed. I am glad I read the book. It definitely took a while and it wasn’t always enjoyable, but I do appreciate the author and his accomplishments....more
