There were a couple of anachronisms, but I was quite willing to overlook those for the delightful fact that for once we don't get the typical Regency romance of the ton. Instead this here centres on the early feminist and artist groups which started cropping up at around the same time that the Napoleonic wars occurred and industrialisation took place, and leads up to Waterloo itself.
Very refreshing and not the old ruts of Regency romance.

I was completely blown away by the great writing and just how fast and well this story gripped me, despite the fact that it was written in present tense. For once I didn't mind that one tiny bit. Don't open the spoiler before having read the book! (view spoiler)[
I detracted from the last part for the easy solution and also for the somewhat too sweet, too perfect and too sugary ending. Every woman, even those who look perfect, knows how likely it is to find a respectable loving partner her age once she is past roughly 40. Not to speak of the fact that it is rather unlikely someone escapes morbid obesity at that age without any negative consequences. (hide spoiler)]
Truly, recommended to everyone and an author to watch in the future. ...more
