You can feel Logan's loneliness, you can feel the tragedy of his death... a young man who had never been kissed, never been loved, never been given the chance to come out of the closet
I’d never been kissed. I never even came out of the closet—not that people couldn’t figure it out on their own. I simply hid everything away. Including myself.
We don't even meet Harris but his image comes forth through one single sentence. The Demon, the Destroyer, The Monster...
I wouldn’t have pinned Harris as the type to take what he pleased and destroy it before allowing anyone else a chance.
You know it's going to end badly, and still you get your hopes up, maybe, just maybe this version you are reading is different than all the other versions already read and reviewed.
“Stay strong, beautiful. I need you to make it through this so I can get your number, okay?”
But no... life is not filled with flowers and rainbows, so you don't get the happy ending.
I guess dying has a way of turning you into a believer. I had to let go of so many things that I’d never get to do.
I loved it! Thanks @Gabriella for the recommendation.

A couple of years ago, during my dark romance phase, this would have been a DNF for sure. This time I needed a low stakes, sweet story without too much drama and it's just what this book was. This book could have been a 5+ stars with a stronger editor that would have cut half of the unnecesary fillers, shortened the back stories, deleted some of the descriptions and cut down on the sex scenes.
The author is very talented and you can see there was a lot of effort and love placed in the creation of the story. The book had very good bones, alternating between funny, sad and teachable moments, but it got drowned in too much bla bla that lost my attention. ...more

Edit 8 April 2024:
It's been a couple of days since I finished this book, and I'm still captured by the ... ahem...Tempest of it all. I loved learning new details about the lore created around the Voss, Dyvok, Chastain, Ilon, and Esani bloodlines. The battles are dozens of pages long, but feel like minutes. Each character has a distinctive voice. I adore how you cannot trust much of what anyone says, including the narrator. This entire series is a five star storytelling masterpiese.
My nags are the same as my friend Moony : too many repeated words/phrases and too many pages spent travelling everywhere on the map.
Thanks for the great buddy read to my friends, Moony, Alexandra and Jan! Thank you for making this BR amazing! ...more

Not because I wouldn't have liked the story, but because I loved the TV show so much, I feared the book and the differences between the two would trigger a big disappointment.

From the impulsive teenager from VOL 1, CG transformed into a pillar of supportMy favorite thing in this book was Chang Geng's character development. From the impulsive teenager from VOL 1, CG transformed into a pillar of support for Gu Yun, showing amazing intelligence, impressive fighting skills and a honesty that made my heart bleed, especially during a certain steamy scene.
Gu Yun was already an established badass when Vol 1 started, and his growth in Vol 2 was more subtle. In comparison CG shined like a new born pheonix. I really love this kid!
A negative aspect of VOL 2 was the lousy delivery of the biggest, baddest battle so far. You cannot spend the entire book preparing for a possible wolf at the door, to then summarize the battle in a paragraph. It annoyed me that important battle scenes or political events were glossed over in a couple of sentences.
I know Gu Yun is an amazing general, but I needed more showing and less telling, and definetly less: "And Gu Yun led the army and won the first battle against all odds. End of scene."

Thanks to you all! I had so much fun.
I imagine YKET one day was playing D&D and someone said: "You should write a book about our campaign." And YKET said: "Hold my root beer!" and began writing one of the funniest books I've read in the past 2 years. But this isn't only funny. When it's serious, it's really serious, and it makes you bawl, snot and all.
The only reason it's not a 5 stars it's because of some artistic choices that annoyed me during the last 20% (because they turned what could have been a great book into a good book).
I join my friends on #TeamRakhadar (but as Moony said, it's really #TeamBebukul who stole the show)....more
