It gave me Catcher in the Rye/Haruki Murakami feels which are 2 of my favourite things in the book world. This book doesn't necessarily have a plot as much as it's just about looking at human nature and how different circumstances can affect different people, but it was done in such a poetic way that really captured my imagination.
Due to the fact that there was a lack of plot, the ending felt a bit rushed and as if the author wanted to suddenly bring in a plot and conclude it but I'll let that one go because I just thought it was absolutely magnificent. A new favourite!...more

It even states in the introduction of this book that if you don't like a lot of swearing then steer clear of this book, however, I feel as though this puts across how real Dan is and reflects his personality which makes the book a helluva lot more relatable.
Dan gives you to the point tips on how to be successful and doesn't beat around the bush with how he words it. He will give you the harsh truths of what you are doing compared to what you should be doing and I think this is great. Sometimes you just need that kick up the butt to get your brain into gear and start DOING rather than just thinking about what you're going to do.
I know I feel heaps more inspired after reading this book and I truly truly truly recommend this book to anyone wanting to start something new....more

This was absolutely mind-blowing, Sanderson is an absolute genius - his plot twists are the best I have ever read and the way that they link through all 3 books and come to a head and get revealed for what they really are in the third book. Series Review (non spoiler): Oh my freaking god, this is newly my all time favourite series and possibly favourite books at the moment. Everything about these books screams AMAZING! I've never read a series where I like every single one of the books as individual articles as well as the series as a whole, but now I have found one and I just want to read it all anew.
The plot line was incredible, and although the series has a total of around 2100 pages, at no point did I ever get bored or want the story to go anywhere other than where it was going. Obviously there were times where I wanted to find out what happened to a certain character, and then it switched, but that's all part of the suspense of the novels. It was fast paced at the same time as being ridiculously in depth, as weird as that sounds, as there always seemed to be something going on at all times. Even when a character was going through a personal epiphany about themselves, it was more interesting on a character development side than boring.
Talking about character development in this series - just wow! Pretty much every single character in the Mistborn trilogy was worked upon; you saw their background, why they acted the way they did, their change with the current situation and what they learnt along the way. It was all brilliantly worked out and there wasn't a single character that I disliked, they all had reason and were all unique in their own ways. The thing that makes this development fantastic is the fact that there were so many characters with intertwining plot lines to cater for in all this, and there was never any confusion whatsoever over who anyone was or what their role in the books was.
One thing that I'm absolutely in love with in these books is the magic system - I've read other Sanderson books, and he just has a way with them, it's unreal. It was just so cleverly thought out and explained to the reader, you learnt as the characters learnt. It wasn't just explained to you in an information block like other books, it was intertwined with the plot line so it always felt natural and never forced. Even the world itself was explained in the same way with the politics, the way of life, the bartering system, etc.
Last, but by a country mile, not least - the plot twists. OH MY FREAKING GOD!!! In every individual book there were unpredictable plot twists that, as expected, made you gasp. However, on top of this there are plot twists that work their way through ALL of the books to make a grand finale in the third instalment. They're so subtle, that they will make you want to reread all of the books again just to figure everything out for a second time. Now, that is planning in it's rawest state in my opinion.
I don't think I can explain enough how much I absolutely adored this series with all my heart, and at no point in my reading did I just want the book to end - if anything I didn't want it to stop. If you are after something mind-blowing to read then I will always always always recommend this trilogy. Please read it if you haven't already as I cannot sing its praises enough.

It is the story of a regular twenty something who is going through life - life isn't all butterflies and rainbows as is depicted in a lot of books, but is in fact sometimes gritty and rough to bare, which I feel is a more life like representation that this book illustrates wonderfully.
The writing in Norwegian Wood is absolutely beautiful and to think that this was translated from Japanese, it's amazing that it still held its rhythm and flow. It was in fact the flow of the prose that kept me reading, and although I'm not always one for overly descriptive scenes, this book knew where and when to stop. It was the descriptions of feelings and thoughts more than anything that I enjoyed; this created a bond between myself and the characters that I haven't felt for a while in a book and I genuinely cared for each and every one of them.
There's something about this book that I thoroughly enjoyed, but I can't quite put my finger on it, there's something different about it. All I can say is that I thoroughly loved this book and I still think about it to this day....more
