S.E. Jakes is on fire! She managed to write a complex spy-assassin story with intrigue, complexities and betrayal rarely seen in M/M romance. Then she slipped in this gut-wrenching, developing relationship all while delivering some of the hottest sex scenes I’ve had the pleasure of reading (she’s really good at the sex scenes.)
Jakes is on fire. Mal and Cillian are scorching!!!
THE CHARACTERS
Cillian - His smooth operator persona got me, but now I know he’s even more than I had hoped for.
But in his business, you could never be too careful, too paranoid...or take too many chances. The ultimate paradox.
Mal - A hard knocks life makes Mal a very bad boy. Bad boys need to be…handled. Or, they need to take themselves in hand.
THE STORY
****A little modification here from my original review. I think a reader will benefit a great deal from reading some of the books that come earlier in the Extreme Escapes universe first. I suggest reading Catch a Ghost and Long Time Gone (Hell or Highwater series) before Dirty Deeds for an enhanced reading experience.**
But hell, of all the gay discos in all the world...
Spies spying on spies, spying on spies. Yeah, that just about sums it up.
Cillian is in Amsterdam meeting with his informants, gathering information on his target, a traitor and terrorist. A traitor that is also being hunted by Mal’s team. From here on out I can’t tell you more because I’d give things away. Suffice it to say that Cillian and Mal are on the same path and their paths cross in several unexpected and thrilling ways.
Oh, and Tommy and Prophet are lurking too.
THE WRITING
Leaving me with barely a moment to breath from beginning to end, Jakes nailed it.
It’s easy to get swept away in the absolutely soul-rocking hotness of this book, but it’s really the elaborate spy tale that caught me. I didn’t expect it. We had glimpses of Mal and Cillian in earlier Jakes books and I thought the relationship building was going to be the treat. And it was. But then all these loose threads from other parts of the Extreme Escapes, Ltd universe come into play making it much more involved than I expected.
In fact, once again Jakes opens up entirely new directions to for her stories and her characters to take, and for her fans to explore.
Mal was the real thorn in Cillian's side. Now, he was about to prove it.

Full Disclosure - I was a beta reader for this book and worked closely with the author. My review is certainly colored by that experience. However these are my true thoughts and impressions.
INITIAL THOUGHTS
I’ll assume you’ve read Grif’s Toy and, like me, couldn’t wait for Wes’ story. After all, Wes is strong, honorable, and generous. But you knew, didn’t you? Didn’t you? That there was something else there? Something dark. Something…wrong. This book isn’t Grif’s Toy. That was a sweet, tender love story. This is something entirely different. Be warned, JLT will try to lull you into a sense that everything is perfect, so enjoy that tease because he’s setting you up for gut wrenching denial. Wes’ Denial.
And there will be tears.
THE CHARACTERS
Weston ‘Wes’ De Luca -
The solid rock of a man. Pure strength, loyalty, and committed love. Wes isn't afraid of anything...except showing his fractures.
Marcus ‘Grif’ Griffin -
I know you love Grif, but you haven’t even scratched the surface. I’m willing to bet you’ll be wildly surprised by his strength of character.
Additional Characters –
Henrik – stunning Paul Eaks – scary Thomas – Dom of Doms Grif Two – Heh, yeah. You’ll see.
THE STORY
Spanning some fifty-five years this is an epic look at not only the full relationship between Wes and Grif, but also of Wes as a young man just discovering what makes him tick. He learns pretty early on that he ticks differently than the other boys, but his natural curiosity and openness allows him to explore and develop relationships fully.
There are three distinct periods in Wes’ life prior to Grif. His pre-military school days. His early military career. And a term of self-education and discovery. Each of these periods are vivid, striking and eye-opening.
As the reader learns about who Wes is, who Wes really is, we also see and understand what is so very special about his most important relationship, Grif. They are the perfect couple, with the perfect life both publically and personally. But something dark is lurking just beneath the surface that could destroy that perfection. Grif feels it. But Wes is in denial.
THE WRITING
If you read my review of Grif’s Toy, here, you’ll see that I held back a bit on my praise. The reason for that is because I knew JLT had this book in him. A book that would come from his core. A book that would shatter boundaries.
As I said earlier, JLT begins by lulling you into a sweet, tender romantic view of Grif and Wes’ early relationship, but right from the start there is a thread of darkness. An undercurrent of trouble. He keeps the reader on edge by applying just the right amount of tension, by degrees, at just the right moment.
I think this may be JLT’s signature attribute. Even in his other writing he builds a story in a way that keeps you so connected that you don’t even see the intensity building around you. Bravo, Joseph.

Oh my goodness it is great to have SE Jakes back and in form! No matter my mood her men are always a good fit. She is writing with a loose flow and an intense vibe that just nails you right to your chair.
CHARACTERS
Brogan assessed him and frowned. “You’re not good at following orders.” Aleks raised his chin and demanded, “Prove to me they’re worth following.”
Aleksandr Solonick – A bossy sub with a very dark past and a future of retribution.
Brogan Montgomery-Johnstone – Dom and All-American handsome businessman, Brogan recalls Aleks from years past and is going to make sure Aleks remembers him.
Harry – Brogan’s brother and “the biggest fish” in the fighting ring.
STORY
This is a book about revenge.
Book two in the Thirds universe fits right in. Aleks is a tattooist in Con and Quinn’s parlour. Aleks comes from a very dark past and is on a life mission to right wrongs. He has focus and determination until Brogan distracts him with some hot dom action. Their lives are deeply intwinded already, but neither knows just how deeply.
You are entering a dark world of cage fighting, human-trafficing, and mafia corruption. Luckily, Con and Quinn have thier shit straight enough to lend a hand when necessary. Maybe, just maybe, with the help of their friends, these two can find a way to right some wrongs and mend their hearts along the way.
WRITING
Finding a prologue in a novella was neat. It was necessary and set a necessary dark tone for this book. As I said earlier I found the flow here very easy to read and, more importantly, to get into. I was absorbed.

INITIAL THOUGHTS
I was wrong, wrong, wrong. I didn't want to read this. Being honest here, I have a character flaw and don't do well with disabilities. Hemophilia terrified me. How could it be something I'd want to read about? I'll tell you how - by being written by a clever genius, that's how.
CHARACTERS
Geoff Gilchrist - This bratty and broken tattoo artist needs kink. His hemophilia is an issue, but his attitude is what needs an adjustment.
Robin Brady - Wealthy, gorgeous, and on the surface very together, but he's hiding from his past and denying his true self.
THE STORY
I could get into the trajectory of the story - both of these men are coming from heavy pasts that have molded them into who they are - but trust me that the plotting is perfect here. Even with the false starts and do-overs, this story moves right along and is perfect for this developing relationship. The way the guys work thru their challenges is as encouraging as it is erotic. So good.
But what I want to tell you about is the clever kink! Oh my gosh, each time I thought Robin had no way to satisfy Geoff I was completely surprised by Ms. Gormley's craft. Surprised and devastatingly satisfied. Whips and chains are lots of fun, but sensory deprivation and mind-fucking are off the charts hot in this book. And there's one scene in particular that had me flying afterwards. Thank you, Amelia!
Robin's mastery of Geoff's particular needs is a thing of creative beauty. Exactly when I thought things would need to back off, Robin just notched up the intensity. And Geoff tests Robin at every turn.
“There’s something phallic about a needle, don’t you think? You’d watch me sliding it into you, knowing there’s no part of you I can’t penetrate. Nothing off-limits. There’s no reason it can’t be part of our play if we want it to be.”
THE WRITING
Ms. Gormley does an absolutely brilliant job here. My overwhelming takeaway was with how real this all felt. So often, for me, bdsm feels like utter fantasy and not real. But here I was instantly connected. I really felt like I was peeking in on a real relationship. Flaws, miscommunication, emotions are all palpable here and made me feel part of rather than apart from the story.
And here's the thing, Gormley doesn't rush this at all. We get lots of up's and down's, starts and restarts, because that's what these guys need. It's how relationships develop. No insta-love here. But believe me, it doesn't drag, each twist and turn is necessary to solidify this complicated relationship.
Lots of kink, but lots of story too. Perfect combo.

My Review -
This book is about an incestuous relationship and you should know that before choosing this book. I did. And while I questioned myself before choosing to read it and deciding that, yes, I wanted to, I did give pause. I’ve challenged myself to try a lot of reads that I never thought I’d broach and have been both rewarded and disappointed. This book was a reward! And I have to add my appreciation for authors who choose to tackle risky subjects. Approaching this from a entirely compassionate perspective made it no less kinky and stimulating.
I feel a need to write two reviews for this book. Look, it’s without question taboo and that warrants its own thought process. But it’s also so tender and sweet that I keep being lulled into writing a tender and sweet review.
That, right there, the lulling, the tenderness, the warmth that surrounds this story is what makes this book entirely unique. If it were straight-up depraved with non-consensual acts then I’d know how to tell you about it. Instead this review may prove to be as twisted as the story. Heh, I wish.
Initially, it had been the kissing, of all things, which had wigged Martin out the most. Turns out, it was now one of his favorite things to do.
THE CHARACTERS
Martin Quillon – Handsome, dependable, mature, unassumingly sexy, and a dad.
"D?" "Yeah, right here, buddy.
Marty Quillon – From youth to maturity we watch Marty become a man and explore all that that means. And he’s kinky.
THE STORY
There was nothing perverted about the trust, or the love, or their shared history.
This is no daddy role play. Nope, this is fully involved relationship exploration with benefits.
Spanning some 23 years you get to know both of these men through a series of father-son getaways to Quillon’s Covert, a family owned vacation property in an idyllic, private wooded setting. Year after year the family has been making these trips, but this year is the first time Martin and Marty Junior make the trip alone, giving mom her own vacation time, uh oh (more on this later). Fishing, swimming, barbecuing and just spending time together is an excellent way for father and son to bond, and Martin and Marty’s already close relationship flourishes during their time alone.
At age fourteen Marty begins to realize just how much his dad means to him. His deep respect leads to deeper considerations. The comfort and closeness he shares with his dad is built on a solid foundation of trust. But Marty’s youthful pubescent body seemingly has thoughts all its own when he looks at his father. From here both Marty and Martin have to deal head on with taboo subjects and overwhelming desires.
"I was just tryin' to be a good dad, Marty."
Consensual, Consensual, Consensual. The challenge here was to convince the reader that father and son were in love and if that was achieved then some of the taboo connotations could be alleviated. And for me, that happened. In fact it turns out that it wasn’t the incest that was bothersome, but the adultery aspect that kept pecking at me. After much consideration I’ve decided that I wanted Marty and Martin together despite the adultery. I imagine if we’d had “mom’s” POV I might have entirely different thoughts. Then again, maybe not. There were optional paths the characters could have taken, but ultimately I felt comfortable with their decisions.
THE WRITING
I am familiar with Joseph Lance Tonlet’s work, but this is my first encounter with Louis Stevens’ writing. Knowing Tonlet’s abilities and penchant for challenging, psychological narrative, I assume that the authors conscientiously chose to use a more straightforward, easy going style here. Given the subject matter and the setting I think this choice suited the story well. I found this easy to read and grasp the unnerving, perilous subject matter.
I’ll be honest and tell you that a buzz of uncomfortableness (but never awkwardness) runs throughout most of the story, and that was both enticing and vexing at once. The presumed depravity is a strong chemical; intoxicating and toxic. But this didn’t mess with my head. I’m not conflicted or questioning and I put that down to the fact that this was presented entirely consensually and absolutely sweetly, lovingly, caringly, respectfully and even endearingly. Not what I expected, but I am no less pleased.
Recommended for a mature reader open to exploring new paths, thoughts and considerations.

This is the kind of book I want to read. The kind of book I seek out. Because it’s bigger, deeper, more complex. Sink in, hold on, and tighten your gut because it’s all coming at you. Hard. No fluff. Even the tenderness is difficult. Real. You want a peek at BDSM? TheN you get this series. By this author. And you are immersed. Times ten. Because this isn’t just a kinky little whip-you-until-you-love-me story. No. This is a freaking psychological head fuck with all the trimmings. And because of that you get to see how a Master/sub/vanilla relationship can be the most reasonable way to approach a bond. Tall order for a little MM Romance, hmm?
THE STORY
Tender brutality
A culmination. But hard earned. Have you been paying attention? I mean really paying attention? I’ll bet you thought you knew things. I’ll bet you thought you knew where this was going. You didn’t. At least I didn’t. I didn’t see the angles, twists and plunges. Pyke takes her sweet time getting you there. The first several chapters are nothing but pure emotional anguish merged with tender, raw beauty. Deep. Painful. Love. Guilt. Remorse. And revelation.
Puzzle pieces fit. Martin emerges. Gray has no choice. Shit. Shit. Shit. And Jan is…just so fucked.
I’d say get yourself in a good emotional place before delving into this one, because it is going to tear at you. The more you’ve fallen for these men, the more you’re going to fall for in this book.
THE CHARACTERS
Gray Raoul – Finally we get to see the man behind all the composure. You think you want to know. But do you? The weight on him is crushing.
“Gray managed a smile, albeit one that tore at his stomach.”
Jack Harrison – His whole life he’s been fucked with. And still he gives. Martin – How in the hell can I love Martin?
…break Jack, get to Martin…
Jan Richards – Yeah. I get Jan. “Nobody is here for me.”
THE WRITING
Pyke’s writing is strong. Her economy of words, as it were, is what makes reading her both stunning and challenging. But in this book it is the storytelling that trumps that writing skill. Looking back at my reviews on the earlier books I see I was flailing at times, but I realize now she had me in her control all along. I am simply hers to dominate. …the past can be nothing but a prefix to better memories.
I would like to thank Jack L. Pyke and Fantistic Fiction Publishing for providing me with a review copy in exchange for my honest review.

Aww, thanks Tibby Armstrong for sharing this lovely story with me. It had been on my radar for years, but you brought it back to the forefront.
I'll be perfectly honest, up until halfway through this read I was thinking this was just a sweet, easy read with a little brutality to set the tone in the beginning. Then as the two MC's begin to know each other it seemed that everything was just too perfect, to easy. I should have known better.
WHAMMO! At about 65% my heart completely split. I think I even knew what was coming and still that's the affect it had on me.
I haven't bawled like that in a good while. I needed that. Hmm, I haven't really told you anything about the story here, have I?
It's a modern M/M twist on Hans Christian Andersen's classic, The Ugly Duckling. But somehow even if you know that classic inside and out (and most of us do) this comes off as entirely unique and satisfying. It was lovely and very enjoyable. Even if my heart shredded somewhere in the middle.
Just know, I'm left with a contented smile on my face and a big desire to read Kim Dare's Axel's Pup - right now!

I've read Anna Zabo before, and while I've enjoyed her writing I was not prepared for this leap in her skills. This was a deeper, fuller story than I expected. Steamy attraction, surrounded by tension, right out of the gate, had me wanting to see what these two would get up to once the leather came out. I couldn't have been more wrong in thinking this was just another spank and wank bdsm story. So wrong.
THE CHARACTERS
Justin White -
If Justin was a submissive, he was likely a horribly bratty one. Every one of Eli's nerves sang at that thought.
Eli Ovadia -
"Eli was a wall of indifference."
THE STORY
Eli's parents, his tragic youth and his cold demeanor butted up against Justin's job, school and family stress, plus the damage his ex-"lover" left him with, all adds up to a difficult tangle to work through. Zabo didn't set herself up for simple solutions and she didn't take the easy path. By the end of the book you will believe that these guys belong together.
I read this book over a month ago and have started this review several times. It was always going to be a positive review, but the hangup comes with deciding what I can tell you about the story. I can summarize the characters well enough, but the story is so much more than I was prepared for that I've been pondering it all this time. My initial inclination was to review this as a sexy romance. But it's so much more. (I keep saying that, don't I?)
I expected kink. I expected emotion. I expected passion. But I didn't expect the deeply explored and fleshed out reasons for their troubles. The trust issues that both these men have are debilitating and form the basis for the entire book. There is solid reason for these issues, and the author does an excellent job at revealing the depths of their scars.
Eli with his debilitating guilt. Justin with his misplaced (but well earned) assumptions.
Ms. Zabo gave me a richly developed relationship story when I was expecting a role in the hay. I should have known better.
"I was teasing, Justin." Gone was the mask and what lay behind it was far more complicated.
THE WRITING
At times I was very angry with this book. Justin had misconceptions about Doms and I wanted to scream at the author, "No, don't categorize all of them." But I just had to read on to see what the whole story was. There were valid reasons for Justin's beliefs, and it proves that Zabo had control of this story all the way through.
This is solid storytelling with sex that fits the relationship, not the other way around. Sex scenes that help the characters learn about each other even when they get it all wrong. And that's a rare thing to see in m/m romance. How often is sex the tonic that heals all wounds? Instead, here, it exposes raw pain that has to be healed with patience and understanding.
Eli, at times, came off as too dramatic and even over-drawn, but as he begins to soften, the reasons behind his intensity become clear. His misery and pain reached me. Seeing Eli get a bit of hope was so sweet, but it all comes at a cost.
And as for the provocative, titillating bdsm theme? All I'll say here is that there is a scene involving Eli's cane that is NOT to be missed.

I don't usually flounder this much on a star rating. I have to be perfectly honest and say that this one barely squeaked out 4 stars. I hate half stars, but this should have 3.5 and that is because I know this author can do better. Do more.
I've read his other writing and I know what Mr. Tonlet can achieve, and I am likely to read anything he puts on paper. So that being said, I find myself coming at this review from a comparison perspective, comparing this work to his others. But the 4 stars stand because of the brave nature of this work and its unique premise.
* Edit - I think I'm realizing that if I had read Grif's Toy prior to Brother's LaFon and another sampling of this authors work, I probably would have rated this higher. But knowing what he's capable of is holding me back. Is that fair? I don't know, but I just wanted to make sure that people know this is a worthy read and I have very high hopes for the sequel. I do recommend this book.
THE CHARACTERS
Marcus "Grif" Griffin - Grif holds something that is identifiable in all of us. In all of our perfections why do we choose to let one "limitation" bring us down? Especially when it is possible that feature may be a treasure to others.
Weston "Wes" De Luca - Bold, strong and so very aware of himself. I am all about Wes!
Tate Diaz - In so many ways Tate is the true hero of this story.
Secondary Characters - There is a nice dusting of secondary characters Pavel, Lance and Matthew Smithton. I would particularly like to learn more about Lance.
THE STORY
**For clarity readers should know that this story's timeline is non-linear. Pay attention to the chapter titles and dates for reading ease.**
This is not a simple love story, but instead the beginning of one. I know there is much more to come here, but this is an excellent basis for what brings Grif and Wes together.
This non-linear story starts out with the two protagonists, Grif and Wes enjoying an evening of fine dining. Or so we think. They don't actually quite get to their dinner, but instead jump right into dessert. "Chocolate?" And this kinky little scene makes your e-ink blur the screen right off the bat.
Then we jump back to Grif's youth and that's where we begin to get an understanding of everything that makes Grif tick. This, I think, is the best and surprisingly weakest part of the story is. Grif's vulnerability and anxiety is understandable, but I just don't think I felt it enough. Later in the book we see that Grif has succumbed to his concerns to a debilitating degree, but if I had been more touched by it earlier it would have had more impact throughout the story.
What does work is how we all have insecurities and that makes this story very relatable.
Grif goes on to college and meets Tate, his roommate, and their relationship is a very special one indeed. Tate is able to read people and he "gets" Grif like no one else can. A tragic turn here takes this story to completely unexpected territory and quite a new chapter in Grif's life, where he ultimately meets Wes.
What if I lose him over that very small part of me that few other people would ever be able to understand—let alone desire.’
Wes could easily be taken the wrong way. The way he handles Grif is, on the surface, shocking, but it's exactly what Grif wants. And, more importantly, this aggressive handling is what Grif needs, even if Grif is reluctant to acknowledge it. Wes is not cruel, he is brave, bold and generous. But I am left a little off kilter here about Grif's continued unease. He has seemingly given himself over to Wes, yet he is still uncomfortable at times.
From being certain true love will never be, to deeply committed devotion, this story spans a nice arc which begins to explain why Wes and Grif are one match in a million. I should also mention that the kinky, hot, weird and twisted sex is done very well. Mr. Tonlet handles that very well. It may just be his signature.
THE WRITING
The story is strong, different and the visuals all work, but this just lacked a bit of emotional connection for me. As I mentioned earlier, Mr. Tonlet's other writing has waylaid me and touched a deep inner core of emotion that few authors have reached, so I suppose my expectations were very high.
I also had a few quibbles with parts of the story that seemed to start but not finish. For instance, Grif's family is fairly integral and fleshed out, but then we had no mention of them further into the story when major plot twists surely would have impacted them too. I, for one, would have liked to have seen Grif's mother's reaction to some of those twists. Maybe in the next book?
Another minor pique is that early on in the book we're told; "No one called me Marcus. No one." Why? Being that "Grif" is part of the title it seems fairly relevant. Or irrelevant if it's not necessary to know.
Also, and this isn't a criticism, I want to know why Wes needs what he gets from Grif. I assume this is expanded on in the next book, Wes' Denial Tease and Denial book 2. I'll certainly look forward to reading it, because I am intrigued by the premise of Wes and Grif's relationship which delves into areas unexplored and that is why this book rated it's 4 stars.

I would like to thank the author, Joseph Lance Tonlet for providing me with a review copy in exchange for my honest review.
Tense legal manipulations, dojo badassery and a freaking intense sexual dominance encounter that lives up to the name: Wicked Men, make this the episode we've all been waiting for. There are great surprises in store too, especially for Brandon Shire devotees.
Plus, one of my favorite opening lines ever...
"You're telling me I'm being attacked by a bunch of goddammed Queers?"

--I wrote the following review nearly a month ago. Per the author’s request I held my review until the book's release. As I prepare to post it now, I realize that my reservations on continuing with the series have mellowed. I’m more anxious to get to book 2 than I would have thought. This review reads a bit different from my norm, simply because when I wrote my initial thoughts I was a mess. Head fuck describes this all the way around. But I'll refrain from using that term too much, because I'd like to get this review on Amazon.
Review:
I know you like dark stuff, but do you like to read really dark stuff? I've been given an ARC for something that has pushed all my limits. The warnings include, but aren’t limited to: animal abuse, forced submission, incest. Take these seriously.
It was only 56 pages and to be honest it was brilliantly written, but I'm stuck on writing a review. Author Jack L. Pyke and Vicki (SilkeeeeeeReads) recommended this new-to-me author. Maybe I was expecting more of a mind bender, which it is, but it took the path of true torture to achieve that twistedness.
“I. Don't. Like. You. That's why," hissed Miah.”
Half of the mind twist results in one brother hiding from the other.
Then he’s found.
That’s where this short leaves off.
The other half of the mind twist is on me. How could I possibly want to read more? But I do. I really do need to know: How Alex survives. If the author can convince me that Alex could have “true” feelings for Miah. And whether or not Miah can have any redeemable qualities. I don’t think so. None. So why would I want Alex to get what he needs from Miah? See, head, uh, bender.
There's a thread of deepest primal power and submission that connects even your stongest denial to the story. The head screw that Miah puts Alex through is visceral. You will feel it. Hate it. And if you're like me try to find meaning by dissecting it. That is an element that I love.
There is one puzzling plot issue for me. Why didn’t Alex run away much earlier? I find myself trying to ignore that and move on, but it’s nagging at me.
I don’t know how far I’ll go with this. I’m being honest. It’s tough stuff and it’ll have everything to do with my mindset. Again, the writing is near flawless, but the subject matter may prove too traumatizing, for me. I'm learning that I do have limits.
--So, that was a month ago. And those nagging thoughts haven’t stopped. Like a drill to my brain, Lance Tonlet’s writing-twisted as it is-has transfixed my morose curiosity. If I can convince the author to let me get my hands on book two, I’ll devour it. No promises on likeability, but I guess sometimes one wants to be pushed further than they think they can go.

In typical Brandon Shire style he takes this serial to the next level. This is so much more than a quickie, fluffy read. It's deep, intense, and sexy. The legal drama alone is enough to keep you glued to the story. Then the individual men, their sexual prowess, and the way the story revolves around a central dark secret add intrigue and edgy dynamics.
A hard, hot horny betrayal...
It goes without saying that the writing is supurb, but I'll say it: it is. If this is how Shire goes about putting together a legal thriller, I'd be happy to read much more from him in this vein. Then again, I'm a Shire-junkie, so...

What a wonderful, surprising short read. In under 20k words I connected enough to laugh at, worry for and even tear up a bit during this read.
David, the wealthy, snobish curmugeon "meets" Jazz, the talented, but uneducated street-kid and nothing is the same for either of them again. As their unlikely story unfolds what becomes most apparent is how much these two opposites need each other.
If you like a story with hot, hot, hot sexy scenes, an age difference, and a grouch that just needs a little tender loving care (at the hands of a unbeknownst-to-himself Dom) give this a shot. I can almost promise that you'll be smiling at the end.
There are BDSM tendencies, a possibly difficult to swallow (ehem) beginning and a bit of a rushed feel, but none of that kept me from absolutely enjoying this story. I recommend it without hesitation. Much, much to enjoy here :)

I could tell you that this is a great mind-fuck book, but that just wouldn't begin to cover it.
For those who stuck through book 2 in this series, AntI could tell you that this is a great mind-fuck book, but that just wouldn't begin to cover it.
For those who stuck through book 2 in this series, Antidote—a particularly intense and graphic read—this book is the reward. It answers almost everything you've wanted to know about Jack. It's no where near as distressing a read, but it is emotional. I've been waiting, desperately, for this release so I could finally discuss it, because this is a book that begs for discussion.
THE CHARACTERS
Jack Harrison - "Drugs. I was going to need some real big fuck-off drugs to get through this shit."
Jan Richards - "... I'm here. Don't forget that."
Gray Raoul - Yes! We get to see the beginning of Jack and Gray. Oh, Gray is a very smooth man.
Great side characters include: Craig and Doctor Halliday, Sally, Joe and Martin. Craig needs his own story - just sayin'.
"Yeah? You know there's only the definite article 'the' in there that separates therapists from rapists; both come with mind fucks. And I've played with some of the worst."
THE STORY
The timeline of this book takes place just before the ending of book 2. If you've read 2 you'll know that Jack has made tremendous progress and is ready to approach Gray. In order to get to that point though, Jack has to do some self-work—to say the least.
During his stay in the MC's Psych Unit, Jack fights, discovers, re-lives, and has incredible blackouts. Jan is there, right there, even if he's mostly out of sight.
Life went calm, so fucking calm as a tear fell. Not his... mine. Resting my head against his, we shared a breath. "Don't..." I mumbled quietly, "kiss me anymore, baby. Please. Don't... just don't... Fucking hurts."
I had such feels for Jan during this read, and don't even get me started on what I think Gray was going through. The focus here is almost all on Jack, and rightfully so. Jack is just so fucked up. His thoughts are so random and disconnected, but still with one main, true thought; Gray and Jan. Always.
THE WRITING
So, here's the deal, the brilliance of this book is that Jack L. Pyke puts you inside Jack's head, inside the mind-fuck and literally inside his intense psychosis. You're not just viewing this from a distance and trying to figure out what's happening, you're experiencing it as Jack does and believe me that is a whole different level of head-trip.
It's an impressive read and the author does a great job of bringing clarity to most of the questions that the series has held for us so far. Of course, at the same time, she opens new avenues of plot. These primarily revolve around where the three-some relationship of Jack, Jan and Gray is headed.
"Jack, are you aware you're scratching at your hip. Would you prefer to 'go casual' with your photo?"

THE BEST BOOK I’VE READ ALL YEAR!
Wow, that’s a pretty big statement to make, isn’t it? But if it’s true, it’s true. Ms. Castle took her characters and her storyline from Chance AssassinMy Review Here, made them more damaged, more fragmented, more cracked, and then she doused them with even more of the peculiar and hilarious depravity that she alone can dispense. Every page, every line, was pure entertainment.
Frank – Poor, beautiful, guilty and sometimes clueless Frank. It’s all on his back. Everything. Maybe if he’d get V on his back everything would be better already.
Because the guilt he felt was never over killing. It was the lack of it, the remorselessness, which spoke of true evil.
Vincent (V) – The most spoiled, conceited, outrageous brat in M/M fiction, and he deserves every damned spanking he asks for.
That was what made Vincent so perfect. His raison d’être. He was feminine to the point of being non-threatening, and masculine enough to prove Frank was homosexual after all. Not to mention obscenely beautiful.
Casey – Innocence incarnate. Beautiful, sweet, gifted. Throughout the book I wanted to protect him from anything dangerous or obscene, but he’s surrounded by it constantly. In book 1 I may have thought Casey simple. Here he’s alive, bright and fantastic!
He was a mere boy with a crush. Hardly even handsome, with his silly long hair. He was androgynous the way models had become, with an interesting more than attractive face, and a thin sexless body. And he was an artist for fuck’s sakes. He probably didn’t even have a criminal record.
Bella – Barely five feet tall, bitchy, deadly and so damned funny I couldn’t help but fall in love with her. It takes a lot for me to fall for a female character these days, but I’d be Bella’s bitch any day. She’d cut me though. But who cares, ‘cus she’d wrap me in mink, kiss my head and then kick me.
She applied lipstick as she walked, her Manolo Blahnik stiletto boots leaving holes in the snow like stab wounds.
THE STORY
“Vincent thinks we should kill all five of them. He’s bored.” Frank was also bored, but unlike Vincent, he had chosen retirement. And that decision, along with the reasons behind it, continued to put a strain on their relationship.
Full of snappy, self-aware immorality.
Frank and Vincent have retired to the French countryside to live out their days as normal citizens. Aww, can you hear the birds singing in the trees and the dogs wagging their tales? Well, you could if it weren’t for Vincent shooting at raw meat nailed to the trees to stay in shape. Fortunately for us they aren’t normal, at all, and retired life won’t suit them for long.
Casey, Frank’s brother, his mother and stepdad have come to visit and….well never mind because that doesn’t matter at all. What does matter is that Casey meets the most debauched and coutur'd female in existence. Enter Bella, Frank’s sister, dripping from head to toe in Versace and weapons, she is the rudest, foulest, meanest, most wonderful character I’ve had the pleasure of falling for. Yep, you heard me, I fell for the female lead. Even more impossible is the dubious and unique pairing of Casey and Bella. For one minute I thought this het-couple might steal the show and I was worried because this is MY gay romance dammit.
OH Yeah. There is a huge, twisted mystery packed with murder, assassins, blood, death, sex and intrigue. In fact there’s so much going on in this story from every angle that it’s going to work your head. Most of this book reads like the exciting ending of other books. The energy and wit run throughout. Bring your thinking cap, ‘cus Ms. Castle is going to throw a lot your way.
THE WRITING
First off you need to know that this book is written with alternating POV’S which differs from Chance Assassin’s first person, present tense writing. This matters because it isn’t just Vincent’s thoughts that we need to see in this book. For me, it didn’t matter whether we were in V’s, Frank’s, Casey’s or Bella’s head, it was all great and I just wanted more of each one, unlike when an author slips you into a POV that you just don’t care about.
Secondly, and maybe more importantly, is how much this author has improved her writing. It’s miles beyond her work in the first book. Her already colorful characters are not only instantly memorable, but they’re also more endearing. Endearing assassins you say? Yes. I do say.
Lastly, I’m putting Nicole Castle on my quirky authors pedestal with my favorites, Douglas Adams and Jasper Fforde. Her creation of outlandish assassins tearing at your heartstrings deserves no less.

From inches to miles. After Every Inch of the Way’s (book #4) shattering cliffy I couldn’t wait to read on to see how this all worked out. Let me just say that I ended up enjoying each character even more as the series went along and I found the ending completely satisfying. That’s not to say that a girl couldn’t wish for another scene sometime in the future. You know maybe as a holiday surprise or something? Authors, are you listening?
THE CHARACTERS
Professor Evander Carson - Defeated? No, no we can’t have that!
James Sheridan - Yes James, you are missing entire chapters in your relationship with Carson, but this book is gonna fix that.
Satish Malhotra - Sweet and vanilla and the glue that brings this all together. He’s my favorite. I was cheering for Satish all the way!
THE STORY
Evander smiled ruefully. “Are you trying to hand him off to me? You young men. The martyrdom is charming, and the whole first-claim business has a touch of Old World Chivalry, but the way you act as if you own one another…’ “Oh, that’s rich. Says the guy handing James off without ever asking him if he wanted to be…”
Ah, here we get to see behind the curtain and get a full understanding of what brought James to the professor. And also, how Satish recognizes how much they need each other…even if they don’t.
The hot and beautiful end scene is not to be missed.
THE WRITING
I don’t really have anything to argue with here. At one point I thought James and Satish’s relationship wasn’t developed enough, but the authors don’t push it. They make it clear that they have time to develop.
This series works precisely because the authors show you why the relationship works. It can’t be easy to prove that a threesome can work, but they do. They have also created a story with a very special mix of tenderness and sexiness.

~ ~ ~ My Review:
Belleau and Gormley really kept me off balance here, purposely. Each time I thought I could settle into relationship bliss, or figuring out a character’s ulterior motives, *swoop, there went the rug again. It’s all good though, the pace was great and the character interaction, perfect.
THE CHARACTERS
Wasn’t he supposed to be angry about that entire encounter? Scratch that, he was angry. Pissed off, more like. Pissed off for being used, for being toyed with, for being pulled into a dynamic he hadn’t consented to. But here he was, still fantasizing about James. What the fuck was that about?
“Excuse me?” A cultured voice intruded on his mental flailings.
Satish Malhotra He feels pretty dammed off balance too. He knows he’s supposed to be angry at James but he keeps fantasizing about him. And then the Professor throws down a gauntlet.
James Sheridan - He knows he has to play it cool with Satish, but he also knows he needs Carson. Satish isn’t Carson. Carson comforts. Satish snuggles.
Professor Evander Carson - Love him. Hate him. Love him. Oh Professor, my Professor……my heart breaks for you.
THE STORY
There’s this perfect (for me) scene in this book where they’re ready, willing and able and yet the sex just isn’t right. I love that the authors did that. They found a way to make the relationship stronger and more believable because of it’s flaws. Don’t worry though, they eventually get it all just right.
I had a little trouble justifying Satish’s thinking at one point. It was honestly just me though. He struggles with James’ marked skin, knows he doesn’t want to put marks there himself, but he admires them anyway. I could see Satish thinking that way, I just couldn’t put myself there. It’s hard to explain, it’s not a problem with the story or the writing, it’s just a me thing.
There is a bit of hinting at a potential threesome (or some version of that), that would totally work for me. I would happily sit in a corner with Satish and watch the Professor help James. (Don’t worry Satish, you can hold my hand.)
THE WRITING
Look, a series about an older professor and his student and their bdsm relationship is just fraught with problems, right? Well that’s where the professionals stand out from the amateurs. Belleau and Gormley don’t hide from any of those issues, the tackle them head on and then throw in a few twists and turns, e.g. manipulations, just to make it more challenging. These ladies can write!
The final book in the series is next and I cannot wait to see how everything is resolved.

This was a quick, easy read that focuses on an 18 year old's romance with his best friends 37 year old father. The age difference didn't bother me and that relationship was pretty hot and enjoyable. But it was the narrative voice, the present tense that just kept bothering me.
The title, In The Blaze of His Hungers, almost had me passing this up, and I still don't really see it's connection to the story.
What I did like was the strained relationship between Ryan and his best friend and ultimately how their difficultes are resolved. Plus, like I mentioned earlier, the sex is pretty steamy between the two MC's.
