My least favourite of the series. Which is disappointing since they really built it up. I didn’t like how the flowery language was really ramped up for this one. It really got on my nerves. And I really felt like I didn’t know Damiano at all. He was just this faceless man whose whole personality was flowery language. And the romance was not a huge part of this book. It’s a second chance romance. Yves was in love with Damiano long before he met Syn or any of the others, but he thought he was dead. When they meet again they immediately take up again where they left off with no difficulty. Completely in love. So we don’t get to see the falling in love part happen. Most of the book focuses on Yves maker returning as the big bad. Yves and Damiano’s relationship was so easy that it was almost an after thought. If not for the flowery language you would forget about it. I’m ready to move on from this series.

I mentioned that Justice was described as slightly plump, but Kyson was definitely plus-sized. It was a big part of the story as he had self-esteem issues that came up often. But Thorn loved him so much!
I wish that there had been more of a shock to Thorn finding his mate, but the other brothers barely appear in this book and had no time to rib him about it. I missed the other characters but I still really enjoyed this one. One of the better ones....more

It had a lot in common with Mia’s series Hot Head, which she wrote with K.M. Neuhold. It is also about a group of brothers, who are dragon shifters instead of vampires. They also discover that they have fated mates, which they thought was a myth. And one by one they fall in love. Saving the brother who is “leader” for last, even though he is the one who dreamed of love the most.
It also reminded me of Lark Taylor’s Devil's Mark series. Which is about a group of demon brothers who also have fated mates and find love one by one. The similarity is more in the violence and bloodlust of the brothers, and the stalker tendencies.
But this felt like those other series were boiled down to their most basic parts and cliches. It’s low low angst. The angst is non existent. And the dialogue is so corny. I honestly don’t mind it so much when Syn is telling Bowie he is the light of his life etc. But it was painful when it was the brothers talking amongst themselves saying things like, “Isn’t it great being a good guy? Good thing we only kill bad guys.” ...more

It’s very magical, with fey of all types. High fey and pixies and pucas and selkies. In that way it has similar vibes to The Folk of the Air. And also the way the humans are treated terribly and the way that Prince Cylvan acts in the beginning. He was very much a Cruel Prince. The book is entirely from the POV of Saffron, a human changeling servant. It was slow burn. And there was one intimate scene near the end. It was not fade to black but it was sort of artistically described in a way that was vague but you could still tell what was going on.
And that was an issue I had with most of the book. The writing style was too symbolic. I’m not sure what to call it but for example, there was a scene where Saffron touched Cylvan’s face and he thought to himself he had to be careful to not cut himself on the sharp edges. And I was so confused about what was happening. Why would Cylvan’s face cut Saffron? Until I realized that it was supposed to be a metaphor about Cylvan’s sharp personality. I didn’t like the extra effort it took to follow the story. But for some ppl I’m sure it would be fine. I don’t think I will be continuing the series. ...more

From Sebastian thinking he’s not good enough for Matty and Matty’s family telling him to stay away from him. To Sebastian breaking his heart, and then Matty chasing him in turn and seducing him back, and then Sebastian telling him his painful past! Definitely my favourite of Lark Taylor’s books so far. I only have 1 more to go but I doubt it will be able to compete with this....more

I enjoyed the supernatural elements in this book more than the romance. I was so curious to learn what happened with Eric, and I was so heartbroken to learn fate wouldn’t let Mori mark him. I cried though all the Eric scenes. It seems so unfair since he really loved him. I don’t completely buy the fact that River was a better match. Book 1 is still my fave. But there is something about this series. I enjoy the world and the characters. But the romances are lacking. The pairings feel unnatural, with the exception of Cal and Oscar. Im excited for Dagon’s book!...more

I think I prefer MM romance where the leads have clear roles. Ferry and Leo are both pretty alpha, which doesn’t really do it for me. Same with Mori and River. Harlow and Bailey would have worked for me since they still had pretty clear roles despite being the opposite of what you would assume. But I just didn’t like Bailey. He’s very dull. And Dagon, Dimitri, and Lucky worked for me thanks to Lucky!
This book basically just felt like a direct continuation of the Reckless Damned series. It had all the same characters and locales back. The only difference is that it did not feature one of the brothers. And Ferry and Leo’s bond was a bit different, but still fates mates who fully bonded in the end.
I cannot wait for book 2! Matty is pure sunshine and I never would have guess who he ended up with before that ending! The epitome of Grumpy and Sunshine!...more
