Honestly I’m not sure what to think? This is my like 10th reread (even tho it had been a while this time) and for some reason this book just isn’t what I remembered. Still amazing of course and god I am SO excited for acomaf cause god knows that book was sent from heaven but acotar is a little disappointing, to be honest. The beginning is interesting, the end is good, but some parts just feel so silly. Too fairy-tale-like (yes I know this is some kind of beauty and the beast retelling but still! 98% of the book doesn’t have anything to do with that - like TOG being a Cinderella retelling). Like seven times seven years?? Come ON just do 50 years why stop at 49?? This bothers me sO much and “seven times seven years” sounds like amarantha is trying way too hard. Plus the riddle was so predictable? LOVE? SERIOUSLY? I could have guessed that. I DID guess that during my first read. It was so goddamn obvious?? And for some reason it never clicked in my head that “lesser” fairies didn’t look human? ALIS’ SKIN LOOKS LIKE A TREE. SINCE WHEN. Anyway this is really disturbing and as much as I love this book and this series I just thought this could have been so much better in so many different ways, and please back off on the OBVIOUS references to beauty and the beast and Persephone and Hades etc etc. BUT I also have to point out the good things like me quite literally SCREAMING when Rhys comes on the first time and the INSANE foreshadowing that happens during the entire book. Also, knowing about Rhys’ feelings (from chapter 54) just made me want to CRY the whole time, without mentioning the “screamed as though he cared” SARAH WHY WHY WHY HE C A R E S!!!! My heart broke like a thousand times. And I forgot how much I like Lucien? Feyre would actually be dead without him. He actually helped her under the mountain unlike... someone. He’s so sarcastic and at the beginning of the book you can really tell how angry he was about Andreas when Tamlin just moved on. And Alis is soooo underrated, I really really want to read more about her and the boys. And Rhys is amazing. He was doing so good with such crappy circumstances and let’s be honest here he’s the only one who actually made a difference under the mountain. Let’s not kid ourselves. “Rhys abused Feyre” yeah right because you’d rather he’d done nothing and let her die. Multiple times. Or “treat her better” I’m open to ideas on how he could have treated her better without getting her, himself, Tamlin and his entire court killed. Nothing? Riiiiight. Okay imma stop now ...more
