So when I picked up this book (audiobook) I was like, wait this sounds like me and my friends. I was immediately drawn in.
After her family went IN on her for her weight and not having a serious boyfriend or family at a memorial, Aaliyah lies to her parents that she is involved with someone to get them off her back. We go on a journey with Aaliyah, trying to find a serious boyfriend by her 30th birthday. Only thing is Aaliyah realizes it is going to be harder than she thought after being stood up on her first blind date. The bartender, Ahmad notices her and signs himself up to help her through her find a boyfriend for her party by the end of summer, giving advice and looking out for her. Through this journey, the characters navigate grief, ignorance, guilt, shame, love and empowerment. Wesleigh Siobhan narrated the heck out of this story! I loved every minute of it. The realistic scenarios and banter. I was cracking up most of the book with the banter that the characters had with one another.
I literally could not put this book down. I absolutely will be buying a pre-order physical copy because not only do I love the cover but I loved the book.

Now I will say this book was narrated by my favs so I believe that it made the book that much more enjoyable. To be honest, I am not sure if it would have gotten 5, maybe 4, if I didn't listen to it on audiobook. With that being said, I also am not a romance fan but this one reeled me in right away. I loved the character development Jeema's relationship with her daughter, her mother, her girls, Dr. Greene and yes, even her husband. What I appreciated about this book is you could feel what the characters were feeling navigating their inner struggles. This story is about love, heartache and peace. ...more
