We are seeing the real cost of war that Darrow must pay and the author does not shy away from giving him many many many lessons.
The breakneck pacing after the first half was insane, only for the ending to leave me gobsmacked and wondering what else is going to happen for this world and these characters. The story is crafted well, you can definitely see the conflict is bigger than just what happens with our main character.
My only gripe with the book is the way sometimes things are revealed. Darrow hides things from the narrative until it’s time to reveal, and while at times it makes sense, at others feels too… convenient. “Oh yea I actually did have like 20 knives hidden in my clothing to save me in this fight, surprise!!”.
Other than that, the book really did have me at the edge of my seat and I need to know what’s next… after taking a break because I need a breather ...more
