High Crimes is a brand new book in a brand new series about private detective August High. It is a hard boiled detective story with a little noir thrown in, with another great set of characters created by this great author. I don't know what it is with Detroit that lends itself to such a plethora of hard boiled detective series but I'm hooked. If you havent tried any of Ames books it's about time you started, I haven't read everything by him but almost and he never lets me down....more

Lansdale has once again written a masterpiece but I didn't expect anything less from this author. Sugar on the Bones is the 13th book in this series and I really had fun reading it. I wish the tv series had gone on a little longer but it's sadly impossible due to Leonard not being around anymore. The story is as always well written and filled with witty dialogue and I was surprised that the duo left Texas to finish of the job. I will always recommend this series to people that wants a good book to read that is not like everything else....more

If you haven't read anything by this guy, you need to start right now. He will not bore you with lenghty descriptions and to much details. It's just great stories told in a fast paced way. I bet you he has something for everyone or you may be like me, I like all his work. In this book we get to know more about France Neagley one of Jack Reachers former colleagues. Yes this series is set in the Reacher universe and that is another reason to read them. As a proud member of Ames A-team i thank the author and recommend fans of good books to get a copy....more

Ace Atkins never disappoints, Don't Let the Devil Ride is his latest and as far as I can tell it's a stand alone. Porter Hayes is the detective that is hired by Addison McKellar to find her husband. Simple? Well guess again, there is not much about him that seems to be right. This book is a wild ride through Memphis and some of its history. There are some twists and turns I didn't see coming and the story is like nothing I have read before. I have been a fan of Atkins for some time and I can really recommend this book....more

Jana Deleon has created some fantastic charaters in this series and I will always read anything that relates to this great universe. I think it was the mystery that I didn't like so I took pleasure in the development with Sunny, Spike, Rosie and all the other great characters that makes Boston tick. Parker created some wonderful individuals and I am glad they get to live on. I must thank Edelweiss Penguin Random House and G.P. Putnam's Sons for letting me read this advance copy. The Life and Death of Rose Doucette is one of the best detective stories I have read in quite a while. We have private investigator and ex cop Dylan Fisher being asked by his ex wife to solve a suspicous death, we also have her current husband interfering, Dylans friend who is an attorney and a powerful man seeking elected office, oh and some corrupt cops. It's hard to write about this book without spoiling it. It is fast paced and filled with twists. The mystery goes back in time and involves a number of people. I have not read much by this author but he is great at creating godd characters and he sure knows how to tell a story. Highly recommended. Python by Dan Ames is a brand new series about private investigator Clint Shockey. He is based in Florida and used to be a cop in Detroit. I am amazed at the amount of variation one author can make in so many series. Ames has managed to write in most cathegories you can think of. I have so far never felt let down by the ones I have read. The characters in this new thrilling series is marvellous and I think it will go down as some of his best work. I had a really great time reading about the twists in this rather gruesome story and I can't wait to see what cases Shockey will have to deal with in the coming books. I am forever thankful that I gat the chance to be a part of the A-team and read some great books by this author. If you haven't tried some of his work it's high time to do so. Oh, and have some fun doing it....more

I stumbled upon this author and his series about Detroit ex cop August Snow a while ago and was hooked from the first page. I have loved the hard boiled detective stories with witty dialogue since I was rather young, maybe too young. Even though August isn't a P.I. he solves problems in his neighborhood. Detroit has seen some bad times but there are those that are trying to rebuild their community and Snow is one of them. I like the fact that people haven't given up on their town in this series as opposed to Loren D. Estlemans Amos Walker where everything is so much darker. I was taken by surprise when I started this book and thought where will this go? But it soon became clear to me that something bad was brewing in Detroit and it wasn't beer. In this book we will get some different sides of the catholic church and how they deal with troubles. What a great concept? I really love the characters created by Jones and he has a wonderful way of telling a story and the book was very hard to put down. I highly recommend this author and his series and I look forward to what will happen next....more

I have been reading and following this author for quite some years now and he writes books in so many genres and they are all good. He has a couple of series in the Reacher universe and he has some of the best noir detective stories out there. They have some things in common. They are always fun to read with witty dialogue and thrilling plots, well written and hard to put down. He has created some really great characters through the years and I really recommend that you dig into his vast catalogue of books....more

The Missing Heiress is the 17th book in his version of the adventures in the brownstone on the 35th street. It's not the best in the series but it is still great fun reading. I found this book lacking some of the trademark banter and linguistic fun usually found in a Wolfe story. But we get almost all the characters we love in this story. Archie, Saul, Lily, Fritz, Lon and Cramer. The last couple of books has been great but I didn't feel the right edge to this one but it is a Nero Wolfe story and I will always love one of those....more

The Nurse Murders is his second book about Gene Hammons and they are also set in Phoenix but in the 1930s instead of nowadays. Jon Talton has a great way of weaving history with fiction and he sure knows Phoenix and that is one of many things I love about his writing. I saw that some readers out there reacted to his language in this series despite the fact that in the preface he explains why he choose to write the books this way. I for one love that the author goes the extra mile and makes the language true to the time they write in. The book in itself is a rather classic noir private detective story with many of the ingredients one would want in such a book. The only downside I can find with this series is the lack of more books to read. I can't wait to see what will happen in the next one. Talton is for sure one of my favorite authors. I am forever thankful to Poisoned Pen Press and Netgalley for letting me read this great mystery I have loved this genre since before my teens and it will always hold a special place in my heart. Well done Mr. Talton....more

Michael Connelly is as always a great one with words and it only took a few hours to go through this great and sad book. Harry is back solving cold cases and this time there's two that we will follow and one of them is with political pressure.
