Well, I tried, and realised that reverse harem isn’t for me. I’ve only ever enjoyed and loved two reverse harem series’ namely:the Curse of the Gods series by Jaymin Eve and the Dark side series by Kristy Cunning. After this I’ve tried to read numerous reverse harems, including those by the two authors I’ve enjoyed before...but I’ve never managed to connect with them.
Hate by Tate James is a contemporary rh, with a hint of bully romance. It’s interesting and well paced. If you like reverse harem this is the series for you. The characters are well developed too.
Unfortunately this isn’t the series for me, this isn’t even the genre for me. I’m unable to connect with the characters, and I find myself playing favorites with the heroes. My favorite was Kody, this time... So what happened, was I found that I wasn’t that interested to read scenes when Kate, the heroine was interacting with the other two heroes, Steele and Archer. This was more of a ME problem.
So I’m to going end my journey with Madison Kate right here.
Maybe one day I’ll enjoy a reverse harem again. I’ll keep my Fingers crossed, but for now, I’m taking an indefinite hiatus from reading RH novels.
I needed to come back and add this... Why the hell was everyone calling her Madison Kate, all the f-ing time. I mean how weird is that? Call her Kate, or Madison. Why always Madison Kate?
I mean in just normal conversations like: ‘You want dinner Madison Kate?’ ‘Wait, Madison Kate.’ ‘Madison Kate what’s your favourite colour?’...more

Not the best of sequels to be honest. I felt like book one was okay, but I decided to read on because I hoped I could see the characters develop into more yet they still remained very 2D.
The biggest dissatisfaction comes from the relationships. There seems to be no real chemistry between Hazel and ‘her Kings’, also the sex scenes (all one and half of it ) were rather disappointing. I don’t think I will continue with the series, it’s not really caught my interests that well. I’m kind of tired of the bully genre, it’s not doing it for me.
I’ve still given it 3 stars because it’s not bad. I don’t hate it, but it’s not enough.

Unfortunately for the help, it was too similar to many other popular books of the bully romance genre.
The main plot aggressor, (view spoiler)[witnessing Savannah’s murder (hide spoiler)] seems to come out of nowhere. The explanation that is given by the boys for their actions following the said plot aggressor, does not in any way make sense to me. It’s all very nonchalant, and the reason’s for their actions are so silly and unbelievable. (view spoiler)[So the boys feel threatened, they do not want to report witnessing Savannah’s murder, because it’s harmful to them, since this killer could come after them, or things could go wayward for them; which is silly, because they have no major involvement in what happened with Savannah. In other similar books, the main character was either doing something they were not supposed to be doing when they witnessed such an event, or had some sort of blackmail sitting on their heads. For some reason the main characters believe this person could have the police in their pocket. How do they know this? Has such an event occurred in their lives before, something that caused them to be untrusting toward the law? (hide spoiler)]
This isn’t the best of reverse harem, rather it feels like the reverse harem has been forced on the author’s part We have 4 male leads: Lincoln, River, Chase and Dax. Lincoln is the only one the readers actually know things about. Dax and Chase are around sometimes, while River gets the least of screen time. Lincoln is the only one who spend a lot of time with Harlow the other’s hardly have much interaction with Harlow....more
I don’t know why I didn’t gel well with this one. It was exactly what the synopsis offered, HP love craft meets Cruel intentions If you know of HPI don’t know why I didn’t gel well with this one. It was exactly what the synopsis offered, HP love craft meets Cruel intentions If you know of HP Lovecraft you know that it’s a book full of characters who are bigots, racists, sexists and cultists.
It was well written, and the gothic atmosphere was different then what I’m used to but, it worked. I enjoyed the plot, but I felt no attachment to any of its characters. Even the female lead, Hazel though she was written to be headstrong, I couldn’t deal with her mooning about the hotness of the Kings all while they did horrible things to her and others around her.
Most of all I felt no chemistry between Hazel and the Kings, the were written to be these sexy, hot tortured heroes, but I didn’t really feel it. Most characters seemed a little 2D. I’m always character driven when it comes to my reading.
These were the only defining feature of every character: 1) Hazel was resilient 2) Greg was gay 3) Loretta was submissive 4) Trey was cruel, handsome and tortured 5) Quin was funny, handsome and tortured 5) Ayaz was smart, handsome and tortured
I love character driven storylines, every character has layers, the author topped it with the plot, but the basic nature of the characters is not my style....more

It’s been a wonderful ride but I want to include a small thing I did miss the vibes of book one and two though, things can get so fast paced in the final books of any series that the small moments can be missed out on. I loved it when the focus was more on ghost girl and her developing relationships. I honestly adored ghost girl, Paca was hells blazing glory crazy and just as amazing, but as ghost girl there was a certain charm to her.
This year has been so awful, I think I’d take my bad day from May 2019 when I finished One Apocalypse, over any day in 2020. Hopefully 2021 will be better, maybe I’ll come back to this series next year or in two years or maybe even 5 years and I’ll include how wonderful my life is going along with the review, because right now it’s soooo going to hell.
May 2019 I’ve had the worst of days today, & to rub salt on my wounds this book ended wayyyyy toooooo soon. [image] So yeah, this book is kickass, Kristy Cunning is one heck of a writer yadda yadda yadda. Read this series, because if you aren’t what are you even going to do? Now excuse me while I lick my wounds and search for another book to fill the gaping hole deep within my soul....more

Second Read: November 2020 The Dark Side Series by Kristy Cunning has been to date the only reverse harem series that I’ve completed.
This time though it gets five stars, not the previous 4.
The only other RH book I truly liked, and also the first one I ever read was Trickery y Jaymin Eve (Persuation series) and despite that I never went back and finished the series (a mistake I’m hoping to fix in the future.)
But other than that I’ve never truly enjoyed any other RH series. In theory reverse harems are the perfect fit for me, they’re the perfect fantasy but I think they also need to be written in a certain way so they seem believable. A lot of authors just like to jump onto the bandwagon of whatever is trending and don’t really put a lot of thought into developing the storylines and the romances. What I love about the Dark Side Series is that it all of the four heroes get equal screen time. Many authors tend to develop one or two primary relationships for the main character with the remaining relationships taking a backseat and I don’t like that at all. It’s just not the way to write a RH.
Oh! Btw I found out Kristy Cunning is a pen name for C.M. Owens, an author I’ve never actually read but guess what? Another pen name of CM Owens’ is S.T. Abby, the author of the deliciously wicked and amazing book Mindf*ck.
I still love this book, I love this entire series. I’m not going to say a bad word about it. I think it’s the best RH series out there. There you go, I said it and as we all know my word is law!

Trickery is one of those books that you'd never want to admit out loud that you actually liked them, and secretly you simply adore them, and eat up it's pages like a gluten.
Our lead heroine Willa is a clumsy mess - in simple words it's just that. Haha. She's literally me in reality, except that I'm not so beautiful to grab the attention of a single guy much less five hot sexy gods/sols. She's continuously messing up, breaking things, tripping and hurting herself and others around her. So yeah, basically me.
In the beginning I was a little put out, because I was getting a whole damsel in distress vibe, but as you read on you realise Willa Knight is no damsel in distress. She knows how to take charge, she knows how to make herself heard, and unlike the other dwellers she doesn't let herself be put down.
So the story is set in an alternate universe where we have 3 classes or groups of people. 1. The gods 2. The sols 3. The dwellers
The Sols are basically future gods in training. On their death in case of proper training they get to become the gods. The Sols function to serve the gods. The dwellers, are the outcasts, or low casts, who study their entire life for the chance that they would get to attend blesswood, where they would serve the Sols.
Willa knight is no ordinary dweller, she is clumsy, talkative, and does not like to be put down. Unlike everyone else she is not ready to deal with the Sols bullshit.
Enter the Abcurses. Five brothers (a set of twins and a set of triplets) - the strongest Sols at blesswood academy. They are rowdy, mischievous, and upto no good, but of course considering Willa's bad luck she catches their eyes.
This is the first time I've read a book such as this. Where we've got a single girl and 5 guys. It's not some sort of love pentagon, because I hate those, love triangles, squares, pentagons and so on are somethings I cannot stand (especially after twilight).
All the five guys (Coen, Rome, Aros, Yael, Siret) end up falling for Willa, and there is some jealousy involved between the brothers, but they seem to work things out - guess you could say share her lol. (Honestly in reality this would be ridiculous- but here it just works). And Willa too, ends up loving them all. I've read both trickery and persuasion( book 2) and I found nothing that would make me think it was too adult. You could even classify it as Ya, because I've read many New adult books that have been much more racy.
If your looking for a superb plot, something to boggle your mind, I wouldn't recommend trickery. However, if you want a fun light read, something to make you laugh, I would. Personally I loved it and I'll be eagerly awaiting the third book seduction....more
