Honestly, I felt that this book dragged a lot. For a thriller, this book was too slow. Too slow.. It didn't keep you hooked or made you think what is happening or what will happen. It just went on and on. And the reveal in the end just felt flat. Yes it seemed like ooh we didn't expect that, but honestly it was so dragged out that by the end of it I didn't even care.
Or maybe I was wishing for a crazy twist like Gone Girl and this was what i got. Ugh. Dont compare it with Gone Girl, it isnt as catching or keeping you hooked worthy.
The characters were so unsympathetic that you didnt even care what or why it happened to them. I think that portrayal of people who just happened to be bad was good in this novel. But apart from that, I was disappointed....more

It did take me a long time to read it because the book wasn't fast paced. It took its time with you and let you unravel the story as you went along with it. If you kept the book away for sometime, you still came back to wonder what happened at the Night Circus.

I have read Pole Dancing to Gospel Hymns. And I liked it better than the Madness Vase. Actually I just liked a lot of poems from each one. But I prefer PDtGH
I like the imagery she paints, the words she weaves. She is soo awesome. <3
The best part about this collection was that there were these couple of fun poems. :'D

So I read Winter Girls by LHA when I was 16 and even though I found it okay back then, I still think about the book some days. After that book I realized that Laurie Halse Anderson isn't your typical teen /YA fiction writer. She writes books rooted in real life situations and characters.
This book had some unique things about it. It wasn't a page turner, no. But the narrative seemed like the type that happens in real life. Not everything is interesting. Not every little thing is important.
The plot was okay. I do feel that LHA does not shy away from social / controversial issues. The thing is I felt she hinted at the character having some deep rooted mental problems but she never explored them completely. (Especially when the source is revealed)
It seemed weird that the back of this book makes it look like it's a romance boy meets girl book. But it's not. The 'romance' or his crush seemed just like a passing fancy and is there just to push forward the plot a bit.
Tyler's struggles seem real. His thinking even typical high school boy and his reactions to stressful situations seems real as well. When that (struggles) is being described or explored, the prose and the story becomes good. The plot resolution also felt too quick and abrupt....more

With a blurb that starts with "All I did was borrow some books from a library" (Paraphrasing) It got me so excited and intrigued. Murakami has a way of making ordinary story magical. So I thought this would be a masterpiece with that premise.
So it dwells in supernatural elements or maybe its magical realism, I am not really sure. It's like he had a dream and then wrote it down. So it doesnt make sense. I am not sure if there was even a plot. The language and the writing style was too simple for my taste. (But then again the protagonist was young.) The ending felt incomplete and abrupt.
Anyway, I think there might be a philosophical point to it all that I may be missing. But the book didnt really garner that I need to think deeper about this feeling.
The illustrations are pretty good. Makes the book worth collecting. ...more

So I was wondering which book to pick for Horror, then I came across this book whose blurb was really interesting and who won Goodreads Best Horror. And one of my friend sweared by how utterly gripping it was. So I picked this one up instead of a Stephen King's horror fest.
To be honest, I went into this book with HIGH hopes. When I say high, I mean London Tower high. With both the front and back cover gushing over how intense and amazing this book is, you can't blame me.
There was no indication that this book will turn out to be just a dystopian post-apocalyptic zombie fest. And that was disappointing. I thought the plot will be something different and crazy and nothing I have ever read about which will make me not put down this book until I gobble every word.
It didnt happen. It turned out exactly like a Zombie book would. But I will give credit where credit is due. This zombie book had substance. It wasnt just a book about humans yum yum eat eat, it was more. More so because of the main character Melanie. And how she develops throughout the book. And maybe Miss Justineau and to some extent Sargent Parks.
The Zombie backstory was amazing. Very well thought and brought something new to the table. The scientific talk seemed real. The writing was good. Overall, it was a good read no doubt. I just thought it would be more. Hence, 3.5 stars.
P.s What's with every zombie calling zombies other than zombies? (Walkers, Flesh eaters, Hungries? ) ...more

When I first saw this cover, I felt that this cover was made for this book. It's subtle yet erotic in its nature. Same like the poems.
Pablo Neruda is one of my favourite poets. He writes such simple lines and paints such beautiful pictures with his poems. Some of his lines from this book made me want to write poems just on the basis of them as they are so rich with inspiration and material. Though, since I am not much of a fan of the romantic poets with their nature love, sometimes it becames too much. But then again, the way he describes it, it's all awesome. ...more
