This was an interesting start to the series. It will have an exotic flair for most comic book readers that are used to the typical American comic. It takes from the mythology of India.
The artwork is kind of edgy, but goes well with the story.
This has a lot of promise of being a very good comic series.

Nice comic book art and a fast paced story makes this a fun read. I would like to see more that makes it stand out for so many other "Buffy" style stories though.

It is the late 1800s in Boston, The Great Houses rule the Great States of America, The Great Houses war is still fresh in everyone's minds. Airships ply the sky. Ghosts and demons are real. The upper class rules all while the middle and lower classes solely exist to serve the Great Houses. Some famous faces will be seen including Nikolai Tesla, Thomas Edison, Harry Houdini, and Granville Woods (I know that last name wasn't one that I recognized either). There is also an ex-Pinkerton Detective and a young woman that can photograph spirits. They will all come together for a wild steampunk adventure.
The artwork is rough in spots which can make it hard to figure which character is which at first. The story is good and flowed nicely. A nice introduction to this world....more

The world's greatest heroes. They have saved the world several times. But they are still human. This series shows the flaws of these heroes.
It is always interesting to see the human side of heroes. But the problem is that this collection only seems to focus on those flaws. I did not feel like I had a good connection to the characters as heroes before I started seeing these flaws so it made me care a little less for them. So I enjoyed the story but did not feel that invested in it.
The artwork was decent and seemed to fit the story but it wasn't my favorite style....more

An evil mastermind is trying to destroy the world's economy. Riots are breaking out worldwide and a beautiful South African agent can't decide if she wants to kill Eggsy or help him.
First off, this is not connected with the second movie in any way. It is a sequel of the first Eggsy collection which is similar but different to the first movie. I really enjoyed the movies, so decided to try the base materials. The main difference between the movies and the comics is that the comics are rougher or edgier.
if you keep that in mind and you enjoyed the movies, then you should like the comics as well. ...more

I decided to read this collection after having seen and enjoyed the movies about these characters. The movie is based on the comic book so it is the original material. there are differences between the two. First, Eggsy mentor is his uncle and not the friend of his father. The book is edgier, or more raw, than the movie. The training makes the Kingsman organization less of a Knights of the Round Table Group and an actual branch of the government.
So it is different but if you like the movie , you should like the comic as well....more

This iWhat happens when a normal teenager decided to become a real life superhero? Will he be able to help anyone? Or will he just get his ass kicked?
This is one of those series that I learned about after having seen the movie. They are similar in lots of ways but there are some big differences as well. Motivations change, reaction change, and the overall feel of the story is grimmer and darker. The thing is some of the differences make the comic better and more believable while some make the movie better. Overall I liked them both....more

"Head Cheeeese" in which we learn about the Halfling, Foxy, and a problem from his past. "Everybody Wants to Run the Realms" is a 'behind-the-scenes' look at how the Forgotten Realms comics are 'made'.
One thing that really amused this collection is that while the title calls it a 100-page spectacular, its description says it is only 89 pages. The stories were decent but nothing spectacular. The artwork was good. Not bad but I wouldn't spend too much on it....more

I can't say that I am a big fan of the Black Panther. When he first came out in comics, he was basically a highly athletic man with access to bizarre high tech gadgets in a black catsuit. He actually "hunted" the Fantastic Four in his first appearance (which is the back-up story of this collection and was the most interesting story).
As the years have progressed, the focus has shifted more to the Black Panther being the leader of an African country. His country has gotten even more advanced it seems. But it still has a lot of problems found in other African countries. There seems to be local warlords that hold people as second class citizens (especially women) or even as slaves and other areas of rampant poverty. The Black Panther is now considered one of the more honorable of heroes (along the lines of Captain America).
This is the first book of this round of Black Panther books but there is a lot of backhistory to the story. Attacks on Wakanda and family history all go to shape this story. The author assumes the readers are knowledgable about these events. Unfortunately, I wasn't. This just made the story even harder to follow. To be honest, I just did not find the story interesting and could not get into it.
Finally, the artwork did not appeal to me. Details are hard to make out or just not there. ...more
Logan decides he needs to return to the alternate future he left behind to save the baby Hulk. When all of his superhero allies refuse to help him, heLogan decides he needs to return to the alternate future he left behind to save the baby Hulk. When all of his superhero allies refuse to help him, he decides he will go a villain (nothing ever goes wrong with a plan like that). Instead of going back to the future he came from, he is stuck going from point to point in his own past. Will he ever be able to fulfill his mission or even get back home?
This story arc was to drive home the fact that not only can Logan not change the future because he is in a different timeline, he can't change his own past (at least this way). I am not sure that they needed a whole story arc (and collection) to get this point across but it does serve fairly well aas an end to the comic.
There is a huge problem with the first time jump. He is sent back to the War of 1812. It is only supposed to be his consciousness and not his body that traveled thorugh time. But when he pops his claws, they are not the bone claws of that time but his modern day claws (and he starts slicing through metal bars to prove it).
Like I said, not a great story but a decent way to end the comic book series. I am giving it 3.5 stars....more

I really enjoy comic book collections. It makes it so much easier to catch up on stories that you missed out on reading. But it does have one downside. How to break up the issues so they all present a nice arc. That is why we have two stories in this collection as opposed to other collections in this series. The worst part is that both stories feel like fillers.
The first story was pretty bad. Dracula sends out a calling all vampires signal which has them all going to his castle. They will attack from there instead of just attacking from everywhere in the world where they were and having the element of surprise on their side. Dracula really doesn't want to win, it seems. Maybe because he saw the horrendous artwork for this story. Characters looked blobby, especially Man-Thing. (Again, my having dropped out of comics and trying to get back in brings new surprises like a supernatural Howling Commando squad with Man-Thing on it and Jubilee is a mother and a vampire).
The second story wasn't as bad as the first but it felt rushed and was confusing as all get out. (There is a good reason why but it is bascially dropped on the readers with no real buildup).
I have give this collection only 2 stars. Overall it wasn't as good as the others....more
