Just finished this one today, I started it two days ago and couldn't put it down... This is the second in the series, in my opinion it is a stand alone although there is a mystery that began in the first book and carries over to this one, the author provided just enough substance that you don't feel lost. I love the gown on the cover, I was waiting to see where in the book she wears this stunning gown and OMG, it was just the perfect setting... **hush* *zip* my lips are sealed.
Lately, most of my recent romance reads have involved some suspense, espionage, murder and kidnapping.. Hmm, I wonder what the means ?? This is far more than a historical romance, the author takes you on a suspense journey- from dark allies to brothels to elegant balls...
The nickname Fallon has fits her perfectly, "Mystery", a past she has put behind her only for it to come back to haunt her.. And haunting is exactly what our hero, Warrick faces every night in his dreams...
I was intrigued on how Shana introduced a hero with some internal demons which carries him away to a past that he can't quite escape until Fallon comes into his life. The author's depiction of Warrick's PTSD was moving, the realistic reliving of the war scenes and the death that he kept having in his nightmares was chilling. Unless you walked in the boots of a solider, you could not fathom what they suffered through. Bravo to Shana Galen for bringing these stress disorder to light to her readers.
Shana gave us just a tease about what we may expect from the last of the Three Diamonds, Lily. I won't say anymore but once again, not everything/everyone is what it appears to be... I am anxiously awaiting.......more

I love the discovery of their love, the way the family held strong throughout the early stages of rebuilding their family. It was heartwarming to watch this family perseveres against all odds, by working together with others and have support from family and friends.
Ms. Lang gave us a wonderful start to what is going to be a wonderful series. She gave us a glimpse of each sibling, just enough to spark your interest and leaving you wanting more... Bravo, can't wait for more. I almost feel embarrassed to mention this but this cover is one of the hottest covers I have seen in a while. I began calling Matthem- Mr. McSteamy. Just when I didn't think they could find a sexier man, I got a glimpse of Brody's cover. Hello Mr. McHottie!! ...more

It may have been a novella, but Tessa Dare gave you a beginning, a climax and an end worthy of any long length novel. I liked the layout of the chapters, our hero and heroine bump into one another over the course of this book. With each interaction, their friendship and love blossoms. It was not a "love at first sight" romance book, honestly our hero despised of our hero from the beginning.. I the ending was just what a romance junkie would love to see, a beautiful and warming HEA. I enjoyed this wonderful tale. ...more

I have been fortunate to read some wonderful books from debut authors and I am adding Jennifer McQuiston to that list. This may be her debut book but she created characters and a story line like a pro. Jennifer had the talent to bring these characters to life. From the butcher to the main characters, each had dimension, which can be a challenge even for the seasoned authors. The story line was unique and captured my attention from the start.. the story was witty, at times snarky, and the heroine was very strong-willed, placing Georgette as one of the best protagonist I've read in a long time!
The way the story began was different from previous books I have read. The main characters, other than a few words in the first few pages, do not actually meet up again until mid way through the book. The author wrote from POV of the hero then switch to the heroine's POV. It was a smooth transition and there was no pause time for me to "get into the head" of the new POV character. I think this was the best way to write this book with such a unique storyline, among other things, the author manipulated my empathy for both characters, making me feel what they were feeling, I was able to learn/understand what made each act as they do and make the choices they made.
I loved discovering what made the hero and heroine tick and I loved it even more when James and Georgette were finally face to face. It was a joy to see their immediate hesitations of one another begin to vanish as they learned to trust their own feelings, it may have been easy for them to acknowledge that they loved each other, but trusting each other was slightly different. Their dialogue was honest and the author didn't bog down the pages with misconceptions or hidden truths.
The book was filled with family struggles, friendship, mystery and romance. A fun read and I am looking forward to more of Jennifer's books. I am hoping this is just the beginning of the the town of Moriag... maybe we can see more on William, Cameron, Elsie and Patrick... Best of luck and happy writing to you, Jennifer McQuiston......more

It was a enjoyable read, two enemies finding that they were each others one true love.. Sometimes you don't have to look far to find the HEA.
The secondary characters had me laughing almost as hard as Ellie and James did.Grieves the valet has these one liners that had me crying..
There were some points that needed some more background, but all in all this was a fun read. I hope you go and a purchase this book or maybe a friend could "lend" it. I know you will find it as enjoyable as I did.

I loved the character, Cat, in Leigh LaValle's The Runaway Countess. I knew she had a story to tell and I am so glad Leigh gave her a chance to tell it....
I knew she was married but there was little mentioned about why he was no longer in the picture.. In The Misbehaving Marquess I learned that he left shortly after they were married. Cat hasn't seen or heard from her husband, Jamie, in 5 years.. As she is getting on with her life, Jamie suddenly appears one day out of the blue.... "He wants an heir". Well can you imagine the commotion that statement caused!!
One of the things I loved about this book is the open communication, no wishy washy characters that keep everything in and the reader has to wait patiently for the "moment of truth". Very refreshing.

As a novella, I find some books are rushed and abrupt, not the case with this book, The Misbehaving Marquess was well planned: the beginning, the climax and the ending was smooth and transitioned well. I am glad that I was asked to read this wonderful book and look **patiently** forward to the next book in this series, (Naughty in Nottinghamshire)... ...more

Just finished reading Reluctant Countess and just in time as I hear it debuts today. I read this book in less than one day, it was that good!! Awesome debut, Everything that I Love to find in a book. From rags to riches.
A fairy tale romance - beauty, prince charming, villain and of course a happy ever after ending.
What is not to love about this book.. I think what set this book apart from the rest of the historical romance books I have read lately, is the utter honesty between the characters. If there is a miscommunication or a secret that one may be keeping~ they talk about it in an open way, no hiding waiting for them to find out the secret on their own. It made for such a pleasant read, without that, well I can't talk for you but I simply want to slap them and tell them to fess up. The more they wait the more strain on the relationship. But Sophie and Patrick have an open dialogue between each other- quite refreshing.
Our heroine is not one to be taken lightly either.. She has spunk and inner class, so she wasn't born into it but sometimes class is not by title and family name alone. Sophie gave purpose to Patrick's life, she had broken through the barrier he placed around his emotions, erected as a child, locked away until Sophie entered his life.
There was such cute dialogue between the characters, finding myself chuckling out loud and highlighting the section, just to go back and read it again.. Some was very emotional... here is a sample of what you will find...

I know, I probably wrote that in my reviews of How to Dance with a Duke and How to Romance a Rake, the first two books. How to Entice an Earl is the third and final installment in the series. These books have one common thread: the Dance Card. For Cecily (How to Dance with a Duke) and Juliet (How to Romance a Rake), the card proved to be a good luck charm, not only was it a way for them to meet eligible men, it soon lead to them meeting and falling in love with their husbands. While our heroine, Maddie, is happy that her two cousins found wedded bliss, she is not ready to settle down just yet, her first priority is finishing her novel.The hero, Christian, as he jumps at protecting Maddie from the taunts of the series bully, Amelia. Maddie is head strong in gaining entry to gaming hells for research for her novel, Christian finds himself volunteering to be her escort. Once again the book centers around solving a mystery~ this time it is a murder. This book takes you on a roller coaster ride, there are twists and turns and just when you think you may have solved it, you find out that you are wrong. Manda Collins has the plotting for a mystery down to a science, leaving the the reader satisfied in uncovering the mystery page by page. I truly enjoyed the main characters in this mystery: there is the feeling of intense romantic chemistry between them. Manda blended both the romance and the mystery where they didn't overshadowed each other.I would have loved to see a story dedicated to Lady Emily and Linton. Manda Collins is an author that will be on my must read list.....more

This was, what I think, a beautiful rendition of Beauty and the Beast. From the first page, I knew this was going to be a great read!. The synopsis and cover art drew me in, but it was the writing that kept my attention throughout the entire book. No lag time, no dull moments, this was a sensuous, romantic page turner.
The heroine, Sidonie, has the character traits that I love: spunky, intelligent and against all odds will still come out ahead. The hero, well Sidonie looked past his facial scar and learned to love and trust the man within. I cried for the Jonas's childhood, the author did a wonderful job of detailing what made the man who he is. I tried to like Sidonie's sister, Roberta. I thought it was a noble cause for Sidonie to pay the debt of her sister, but Roberta was a spoiled brat, always knowing that someone will come to her aid.
With the help of each other and the tenacity of childhood friends, they learn the power of love, the power of healing. I am glad to hear that this is just a first book in the series, I look forward to reading more of Anna Campbell. She is an author on the "watch" list. What I loved about our heroine, Margery is that she simple didn't want the title, the money, she wanted things to stay status quot. She wanted to save her hard earned money and maybe open up her own confection business. But what she wanted and what was to be are two separate things.
The hero, Henry, well I felt sorry for him at first, the man who was targeted to earn the title and the money. It was earmarked for him from the beginning, he loved the land, you can tell by how the author wrote about his dreams, his desires. But the best of both worlds happened in this story, both these unbelievably made for each other characters fell in love and things couldn't have worked out better for them.
Not to give the plot away, our young heroine didn't recall much of her early years but there was one pivotal moment when her memory of her past came back, it was then that her life was in jeopardy. It was during this time that Henry finally accepted that he loved her and she was worth finding and fighting for.
The author brought back all the "scandalous" ladies of the ton, united they are a force to be reckoned with. I love the "Charle's Angel's" part it was perfect!!
I also loved all the beautiful covers, the gowns were gorgeous. Bravo to a wonderful ending to a just as wonderful series. I do hope to hear more from Nicola Cornick in the near future....more

Wow, my first viking book!! Very steamy and sensual! Who knew that these warriors could be passionate and romantic heros. Brandr was a warrior with the ability to conjur up fire, until he was poisoned and capture and an iron collar was place upon his neck.
Katla was a strong minded warrior of her own, she is a widow, responsible for her farmstead and the people that live within it. Karla wants to be desired for herself not for the land that comes with such a bond. She dreams of the mighty passion, she yearns for it. A bond so strong and intimate that lovers could hear each others thoughts. She hopes for this with her first marriage, but instead her husband leaves her bed once a month, has his own thrall, a sex slave he would go to when Katla had her monthly cycle. What a dog!!
Her brothers bring her a gift one night, a thrall (Brandr), the son of the man responsible for the death of her husband. She was out for revenge of his death, but to keep the thrall she has to agree to the marry the man of their choosing.
I was hoping for more of a fight from Brandr when he became held against his will, being the warrior he took the duty of slave with little fight. It was almost anti climatic. The other thing that didn't fit is the whole "fire" thing, it is in the title, it is in the cover art and our hero warrior may have demonstrated some of his abilities but I would not say that this was a "paranormal" book in as much as it was a romance book. There was more fire and sparks in their intimacy then coming from our hero.
Despite the above, the book was filled with a wonderful love story developing between Katla and Brandr. When it was down to the three men that Katla had to decide upon, she chose Brandr, knowing that once she removed the collar he would depart and return to his land. But his love was strong with or without the collar, she finally got her dream, the mighty passion, hearing Brandr voice in her head. Still untrusting of his intentions, it took a bit before he was able to hear her voice, but in the end these two find the true HEA.
All I know is while I draw breath, all I am is yours.

This is the second in a series, but quite honestly it can be a stand alone book. We met Jasper in "Her Wicked Ways", we saw that he placed his sister's happiness over his own. This book has so much going on, so hang on tight you in for a wonderful time.
I was looking forward to reading Jasper’s story, just the little tease that Darcy gave us in the first book was enough temptation me. In Her Wicked Ways the readers learned that Jasper Sinclair, Earl of Saxton, made a bargain with his devil of a father to marry in one month’s time.
Jasper is out trying to secure an evening of pleasure. He comes to the aid of a woman who was being accosted by a rather forward bloke, unhindered rage poured through Jasper as he tried to master his control. After the ordeal, he insists on walking the strikingly redhead home. The entire neighborhood is filled prostitutes, not knowing if this was her profession, he propositions her, only to be turned down. Bits of Jasper's character begins to develop and we learn that Jasper has a darker side and finds his release in fighting. As the rage he still is feeling is bubbling up in side him, he stumbles upon a fighting club audition, a club ran by a outcasted viscount, Sevrin. I also came to appreciate Lady Phillipa, she will have her story told in the next book in this series, To Seduce a Scoundrel. What a surprising leading man, Ms. Burke picks for this independent and strong willed heroine.
I enjoyed this book, and if you like historical romances you will love this one, the story line was fresh, you have a cast of well developed characters. Darcy Burke is a new author for me, but she has found a place on my auto ordering from now one. She is an author on the move!!

When I saw the blurb, I was intrigrued. A book which combined two of my favorite genres: historical romance and fantasty/shapeshifter.
It was slow to start, but I now see that the author was setting the stage, building a background for the reader so they could follow along.. You see, in this time, those of high rank held the strongest magical powers, then depending on your pecking order this would determine what magically abilities you possess. The lowest ranking baronets, were shapeshifters, they were considered Merlin's greatest enchantment, for they were immune to magic. The shapeshifters became secret spies, searching for the thirteen relics created by Merlin. Each stone was enchanted by a different spell.
See, I told you there was a lot of background to absorb to get the premise of the storyline.
The heroine, Felicity needed to prove her powers to hold on to her family's property. At first I wasn't sure about her, her character portrayed her as a weak, naive and very trusting person. Those are the things that lead to her being taken advantage of. The hero, Terrance, was societies outcast, as he was a shapeshifter. Terrance is searching for the "stones", six have been found and he senses that he is close to finding another, anytime he is near Felicity he senses the stones. Terrance aligns himself up to court Felicity to uncover what she knows, but in the process he finds himself falling fast and hard in love with our heroine and he will do anything to protect her.
Ms Kennedy created a very descriptive fantasy world, she provided well scripted words where the images appeared in your head, you saw homes were made of confection, and sea horses pulling a carriage, all mystical and magical. But I have to say my favorite image was the small gift that Terrance gave to Felicity.. a small egg, given to protect her when he wasn't around. When it hatched, I immediately fell in love with Daisy, and I simply want one of my own, who wouldn't want a mystical dragonette?
This book was based more on fantasy romance and little on historical romance, but it was a romance all in all. The author is new to me and I dare say it will not be the last time I read her work.
This book was full of twists and surprises. The author created secondary characters that were fully developed and important to the plot. She created a unique take on magic and romance, this a must read for anyone who likes reading paranormal and historical romance. I can't wait for more in this series....more

What a wonderful debut! Darcy Burke has written a highly entertaining book. I honestly read this in less than 12 hours. The story grabs you right from the start and it doesn't let you go.
My first impression of Miranda~ what a spoiled brat. I wasn't sure if I would warm up to her. I did feel sorry for her as she was ignored and punished from equally self centered parents. I got the impression she acted out in her rebellious ways to gain their attention and their love, but in the end her parents exiled her to Wiltshire. She was also given strict instructions that she would not participate in any social gatherings as punishment. Her parents sent her there in order to better herself and return to London a regretful and rehabilitated young woman. On her way to the country, her entourage is stopped by a highwayman, bold as she is, when asked for her valuables she said she "had nothing, save a kiss.” To pass the time, she helped her cousin, Beatrice, at Stipple's End, an orphanage.
Montgomery Foxcroft "Fox" is running low of money, he inherited a mortgaged estate and a nearly destitute orphanage, from a father who gambled it away. It was not easy for him, but he resorts to being a highwayman to raise the money for the orphanage which is desperately in needs of repairs.
The match between Fox and Miranda couldn't have been more perfect. Him with his big heart and her with her rich society ways. It was enjoyable watching how Miranda grew to love the children in the orphanage. At first she was skittish of combing a young boys hair with lice, and soon she involved herself in chores and tasks without a second thought. She did what needed to be done, she rolled up her sleeves and pitched in.
The pages sizzle with sexual tension, and the love scenes burn up the pages. How can you not swoon when you read this....
“Miranda. I have loved you for so long. I can barely remember a time when I didn’t. Not for your money. Or your beauty. For you.”
I am so thankful that I found this author, what a talented writer, if you haven't read Darcy's historical novels you are missing out. I can't wait to read Jasper's story, his selfless act that eventually leads to the happiness of Miranda and Fox. I think I am already a bit in love with Jasper..

I will tell you the truth, I was hesitant in reading this book, I just didn't think I was going to bond with the heroine, I mean really, how could the lead character be a courtesan ?? So I put this one off a bit, then I found myself with a little free time between author commitments and I thought I would give this book a try. I have read Shana Galen's previous work and loved it, so maybe, just maybe this one would work for me..
Well first thing I learned is not everything that is on the surface is the true picture of a person. I was happy to find that Juliet, what a wonderful name for our wayward hero,is not a ill repute courtesan, she is a woman like any other that has been abused and hiding from her past, she is looking for that one love, the special love that completes her.
Our hero, well he is so squeaky clean and orderly that you can set your watch to him. Wait, that is just how he runs his life, everything down to the minute or his day is out of sorts. So imagine Juliet who lives by no rules meeting "Will" by the book. What you are in for is a wonderful banter between the two and sizzling love scenes that scorch the pages.
I enjoyed that the author gave us a mystery to solve as well along with the wonderful romance. I was heartbroken as each of them revealed their past sorrows on the last of their dogs, I would have loved to see, at the end, they found a stray looking for love.
I can't wait to read the stories of the other two "jewels", I can tell right now I won't wait to read them when they are released. And one last note, I absolutely love the cover!!...more

Catherine Bybee knocked this series out of the park!! This was an awesome ending for a wonderful series... In Redeeming Vows, we find Fin and Lizzy's story finally!! There was so much tension between them in the last book "Silent Vows", you knew these two were destined for each other. Finlay and Lizzy were always were at odds with one another, but you knew when they finally had their showdown they were going to finally going to admit their love for one another.
I think I fell in love with Finlay by the way he accepted Simon, he immediately fell into a fatherly role and that endeared him to me. Lizzy is a single mom, left to take care of raising her son on her own, so it was a struggle for her to see and accept Finlay's good intentions.
After finally giving in to their lust for one another, Grainna, the evil witch, transports the couple to the 21st century. As they try to find a way back, Lizzy comes to terms with her true feelings for Finlay and she knows that her home is not in the 21st century but with the family she has come to love and accept in Scotland.
There is a big showdown between Grainna and the MacCoinnich's, I was on the edge of my seat!
