From the author of The War that Saved my Life comes another great story for a read aloud for kids! Felt a lot like that one as well. It is the story of a French Jewish girl.
There was a lot of different religious views in this one (Judaism, Christianity, and Catholicism) which would be prompt great discussions. Couldn’t tell if the author was as leaning one way or the other but it mentions the belief of the one true God and what different beliefs systems hold get to heaven.
Be sure to listen to the epilogue. Thanks Libro for me audio copy.

This book provided conversation on different topics (one being homelessness). Some of the language the kid characters used I don’t allow mine to use and addressed it. One little inappropriate part I thot for kids that I skipped ahead....more

We enjoyed it. The older kids enjoyed it and the mystery more than the two youngers. It was a bit more serious as in forensic science/ chemistry/ toxicology “talk”. Nothing gruesome all but academic. The 12 year old main girl detective is following her love of mystery and wants to be an investigator.
Set in Victoria England, I loved all the smart and hard words she used. Loved how she explained everything in her own footnotes....more

Love how she is incorporating Roman History into the story. It’s a story full of Greek mythology and magic and gladiator style fights. The characters feel really relatable too. Kids promptly asked for Book 2 after we finished Book 1....more

At first we weren’t sure about it but the kids got really interested and invested in the characters and their individual stories. It was interesting for the kids to have each part a different point of view. They caught on pretty fast to the plot changes.
It’s the story of 4 kids at a candy factory all together for a big competition. They all come in with big secrets and leave completely changed.
Loved the little nuggets of truth such as loving everyone, being real, kindness, and friendships.
There is some talk and mentions of after life and the realm beyond which some parents might want to talk about....more

It’s a great kid/ detective story- set in Washington DC and FBI headquarters. The main character is a 12 year old boy which is a nice change. It teaches them beginning detective/ observation skills and of course a great mystery to be solved.

…. I’m feeling Iike how many more books are going to be in this series. After a certain time a series just needs to stop. Lol How much more trouble can Jerin get into?
This particular one had an element I really didn’t like. Instead of actual cursing it said “and he cursed”, “ he cursed under his breath” etc. Annoying and repetitive and not a good example.
The ending was really good! I liked the ending the best of all! ...more
