I remember cheesy but I also remember a bit of creep factor I thought. Well, this is missing that for the most part. The kids just found it plain fun, or even silly. While reading with the kids, almost all wanted to drink the packet for the first choice. But personally, I found the story where the dog gets it to be better. Although that version also has the cheesiest endings it also had the most gruesome one. Also, those were less predictable for what would happen. I didn't like how a couple of the choices didn't make a difference and would have the same result then other factors intervene, making the option pointless....more

Poppy was lively and playful and a bit bouncy. Phil I didn't like at first, but he came to grow on me. James, I couldn't quite decide. I liked him, but still have reservations. This book is dated. You can easily tell it is a 90's style teen novel. Pre Young Adult genre lol. Short and interesting and fast to read. I really felt for the dilemma Poppy was in but I am not sure on how she reacted at times. I look forward to learning more of this Night World and hope to see more of these characters....more

I loved how different it was from the movie. It takes some major twists that I didn't expect. You can't predict this one. It isn't scary horror but more that feeling of dread that never leaves. The first part is similar to the movies but it does clarify the creatures as vampires. The movie felt more zombie-ish to me. But this brings in garlic and the whole nine yards. Forget what you thought knew and embrace the despair of this world.
While I liked the story, it is very dry. Boring at times. I could never fully embrace the emotions it should have elicited. ...more

A woman in her fifties is starting to feel her age. It doesn't help when your husband is a plastic surgeon who is sleeping around with other women. I felt a bit bad for her. But then again, she still choose her life, friends and lack of career so my empathy is minimal. Yet how she views detachment and how she wants more in life is interesting. ...more

Especially Sebastian. A vampire who feels cursed in a whole new way that I've never thought of before. And a new way of turning. Quite interesting. This story made me shiver. Quite toe cold read and is a perfect winter read for late night by the fireplace I think. Too bad that wasn't my reading case. I'll be looking for more by this author for sure! ...more

One I greatly enjoyed. With just the right hint of Jekyll and Hyde that make things difficult for her victims/co-prisoners to understand her. I liked the bit of romance that was in this. It wasn't too far over the top. Although the attraction was a bit too strong early on. The one thing I couldn't really relate to was why non of the donors with her never question her about the personality difference. Or why she tries to pretend to be her accursed freeloader (you'll understand that once you read this).
Overall recommended for anyone who likes a bit of history, victorian mansions, island living or wants a very original vampire story....more
Too corny for my taste. Carl(Charleton) seems like an airhead on one page, a decent guy the next, and then self-centered 2 pages later. I get that he Too corny for my taste. I get that he is a teen but this is a short story that takes places over a very short time span. He seemed half erratic! Also way too predictable and the ne dhad me rolling my eyes. I had hoped the middle of the story showed potential but I really did find the end to be bad....more

I think she meant energy bill but still to see that in the very first story, first page was an major eye-blink moment. Playful and a bit ridiculous but a fun read. I have yet to read the Sookie Stackhouse novels but have seen the show so I kept seeing their faces but I struggled most with Eric how had a puppy dog quality in this story. Charlie Brown indeed!...more

I felt I had missed something though form the Shade books. And this one has a much more fantasy feel. So we went from vampires and witches and then these hawk people, and now this book has added werewolves and orges! And people ride on and use dolphins for transportation. We meet a lot of pirates too! Overall it felt more fantasy in general than paranormal. I LOVE fantasy but didn't expect it here like I got. Lots of different and new characters and, to be honest, I am not sure what I think of any of them. Lots of mixed thoughts to decide whom I like and dislike. Even Kiev I am not sure about. Leaning toward like, but boy does he have a temper and control problem to get under control!...more

I was expecting a twist with the ending of the last one, this one has just as many! This one blues more lines of who is an ally to Derek or Sophia (and then you get to question if they are each others...) and who wants them all destroyed. I liked how they ended the arc but it was almost too happy all things considered what goes done. Too perfect and therefore unrealistic. The biggest surprise was Kiev and it has me eager to read his tale. ANd I must say I hate Arron as much as the elders I think!...more

Witches are not what they are led to be thought of. Sophia must face a new darkness and Derek has a lot to learn. I loved seeing Aiden start to let go of his prejudices. This book is the darkest yet and most destructive! And the ending is a major cliffy that has be antsy for the next. It was addictive and I devoured it in a single sitting! Kiev and Clara are major nutcases! They sort of scare me more than the Elder since they are unpredictable....more
