Будучи также человеком творческим, Джемма изложила свое видение будущего в антиутопичной трилогии для читателей старшего школьного возраста: The Declaration, The Resistance и The Legacy. Книги выходили одна за другой в период с 2008 по 2011 включительно, и так и не были переведены на русский язык. Но, казалось бы, при чем тут Лужков?
В своих книгах Ms Malley рисует мир не очень отдаленного будущего (всего-то начало XXII века), в котором люди не умирают, потому что в Британии придумали пилюли для обновления тканей, которые позволяют оставаться вечно молодыми. В этом мире детям не рады, и поэтому существует специальный военизированный корпус Ловцов (the Catchers), которые отлавливают нелегальных детей и ссылают их в интернаты, где их психологически ломают, учат ненависти к родителям, покорности Легальным жителям и, конечно, всяким полезным вещам типа стирки-уборки-ремонта. Ах да, еще детям часто напоминают о том, что это Британия - такая гуманная европейская страна, где им находят применение и содержат, а в каком-нибудь Китае их бы еще при рождении ликвидировали. У родителей есть две возможности легализовать ребенка: они либо должны в 16 лет, когда им предлагают подписать Декларацию, отказаться от нее и от пилюль жизни, либо кто-то из них должен умереть, чтобы освободить вакансию Легального жителя, которая достанется ребенку. Интернатские дети, так называемые Излишки (the Surpluses) мечтают выбраться из своего круглосуточно охранямого периметра, где даже в окно нельзя выглянуть. Однако снаружи в итоге тоже оказыватся не очень: из-за перенаселения введены квоты на еду, электроэнергию, бензин и прочая, даже дома начали строить с низкими потолками, чтобы уменьшить пространство для отопления. Повсюду на улицах висят билборды с социальной рекламой в духе: "Незаконные дети и эмигранты воруют наши ресурсы". Жители других стран, куда Британия поставляет таблетки жизни, постоянно нападают на Соединенное Королвство в попытках заставить их снизить цену, потому что не все могут их себе позволить. Ну и, конечно, есть Подполье, которое борется со всем этим безобразием.
А теперь найдите 10 отличий от мира, который в 2013-м году показал нам Глуховский. Нет, отличия, конечно, есть. У Глуховского действия происходят в более отдаленном будущем, главный герой - взрослый мужик, а не девочка-прислуга, в "Будущем" много мата, секса и жестокости, которые нужны исключительно разве что чтобы шокировать почтенную публику. Однако основные принципы организации мира и все моральные аспекты, поднимающиеся в этой книге, и за которые роман называют "лучшей книгой столетия" (хотя столетие как бы только началось) - все эти вещи уже были озвученны Ms Malley в ее трилогии, разве что ей для этого не потребовалось никого потрошить, насиловать и материть. Однако в какой-то момент в современной литературе стало популярно насилие и сквернословие, без этого книга почему-то уже не считается достаточно серьезной. Рецепт современного бестселлера российского производства? Возьмите чужую идею, про которую в нашей стране вроде бы еще никто не писал, слегка перекроите так, чтобы инструменты определения плагиата не нашли более 60% совпадений, добавьте немного извращений и голых тел, вперемежку с глубокими философскими сентенциями о круге жизни (которые вы позаимствовали вместе с идеей) и, конечно, пригоршню волшебных слов типа "олигарх". И вуаля: вы - серьезный писатель, а ваш роман - "жесткий, но честный".
Восторженные отзывы, конечно, понять можно: тема вечной жизни сейчас и правда маячит на горизонте, поэтому такие истории интересны. Однако читать Глуховского было очень сложно: по сути, у него получилось "крошево" типа тех, которыми наслаждался главный герой в интернате, на фоне его постоянного нытья, рефлексии и недовольства. Размышления о смысле и последствиях вечной жизни в тех эпизодах, где идея была позаимствована, были еще ничего (они, правда, почти дословно были взяты из трилогии); но там, где Глуховский пытался проявить самостоятельность, это было... слабовато. Биолог, который считал, что, перекроив ДНК, люди ампутируют себе души? Ну право слово. Из положительного могу назвать разве что продуманность мира "Будущего", хотя постоянные отсылки к нашей современности (типа "растиражированный портрет Че Гевары") смущали изря��но: неужели за 500 лет человечество не создало новых мемов, когда их только за последнее десятилетие появились сотни.
В общем, на мой взгляд, "Будущее" - очень средненький фантастический боевик с претензией на оригинальность. Почитать его, конечно, можно, но ожидать какого-то ломающего шаблоны эффекта не стоит....more
