A synopsis of the trials and tribulations involved in writing the Constitution. Not written as a text book either. Covers the rise of George Washington from young British Officer during the French and Indians wars through his leadership of the American Army fighting for Independence.
Book provides great insight into GW the man as well as others involved such as Alexander Hamilton, Ben Franklin, Thomas Jefferson, George Mason and the importance of James Madison in this process. BB's thoughts on the relationship between George and Martha as well as several other prominent Founding Fathers and their wives added a human component.
Insightful without getting bogged down, easy to read and touched me as I have walked the grounds of Mount Vernon.
I waited till the end of the year to read the best book of the year....more
While the book offered some interesting insights into what was happening and the political lead to emancipation, it was simply not a compelling read. This series has trended down since opening with the outstand Andrew Jackson and the BArbary Pirates.

A life cut way too short by a wannbe Communist who despite living through the squalor of socialism, seemed dedicated to his foolish beliefs.
Enjoy most of O'Reilly books, everyone I have read has offered new insights and made me more aware of the era and individual the book was focused upon.
But there was one glaring mistake, at least for a military guy. Perhaps I should get past what was really a minor mistake. Somehow JFK was referred to as a 2nd Lt commanding PT 109. He was a Navy officer not Marine or Army, the Navy grade of O-1 is called an Ensign. JFK was a Lt Junior Grade, an O-2 (thus 2 mistakes), when he commanded PT 109. Oddly, at the end of the book is pictures of the PT 109 crew and JFK's rank is correct there. I know, I know, I'm nit picking

The authors crafted an excellent story and provided an insight the world often would never see. And while it's not a short book, it also does not read like a history book but rather a well written narrative.
Recommend this book highly for anyone with an interest in our leaders....more

This book creates a brief look behind the curtain at the power of Washington, the need for fresh new ideas from a capable, compassionate and talented lady who I only hope runs for President in 2024.
This is a look at real leadership. A lady with a true vision and a shining example of what an elected leader should be. A look inside the office of Donald J Trump and those around him, both good and bad. As the US Ambassador to the UN, she had a special view of the failures of Obama and his lack of real leadership. It's good to see exactly how he failed the American people and how a sycophantic media helped cover up his failures and short comings.
In a word, a lady to be respected. One of the best political books I've read.
I had forgotten how much I enjoyed WFB though keep a dictionary close by. A fascinating look at Reagan as a man as much as a political leader.

WFB was working on the book when he died and not sure if copies of his letters to Ron & Nancy were meant as filler or part of the original book but they provide amazing insight.
