What truly sets this book apart from other dystopian books is the remarkable heroine, Penryn. Who's determination, emotional strength, quick thinking, and suffering for family make her a character to root for. It's refreshing to see a teenage female lead who takes charge and, at the same time, is more than capable of holding her charming, funny side in a dangerous and chaotic environment. She really steals the show.
Although I didn’t expect to enjoy the almost inevitable romantic element but I really did. Penryn interactions with the enigmatic angel Raffe add depth to her character. The chemistry they share doesn't lean into overly saccharine territory, yet it manages to captivate. Their witty exchanges inject a dose of realism and humor into the bleak backdrop of the story. I think the author should have added Raffe's perspective to the book. The story would have been more enjoyable if we got some of his chapters, some glimpses of his point of view. And it would have helped me a lot to understand his character.
The world-building in Angelfall is both imaginative and haunting. The blending of angelic and dystopian elements creates a unique atmosphere that is both intriguing and chilling without being overly verbose, keeping the pacing tight. This story has been the perfect blend of fantasy and romance, delivering on all fronts and even exceeding my expectations. Very impressive the way each character was developed and the way everyone's point of view was shown throughout the book. Even the thought process of the villains intrigued me lol. There are very few authors I've come across who have succeeded in crafting every book in a series so brilliantly. I can’t wait to see where the story goes after this 3rd book....more

Additionally, FMC's motivations and actions often seemed inconsistent and illogical, which made it difficult to connect with her. I did not like the writing style at all. It felt forced and overly flowery, which made it hard for me to stay invested in the story.
For me, the joy of reading lies in exploring new worlds, their characters, and different perspectives through the power of an author's imagination. It's not just about admiring the technical prowess of the writer's language or their ability to manipulate words.

With an atmosphere of intense suspense and an abundance of enigma, I find myself utterly captivated.
The story follows the main character, Fallon, as she discovers a mysterious world hidden within our own. Along the way, she uncovers long-held secrets and dangerous enemies, all while struggling to understand her own newfound powers.
One of the things I appreciated most about this book was the depth and complexity of the characters. Each one felt like a fully-realized person with their own hopes, fears, and motivations. This made it easy to become invested in their journeys and left me eager to learn more about them.
While I enjoyed it, there were certain aspects that I didn't particularly like. One of these was the abundance of filler information that seemed to diminish the overall reading experience. And I'm hoping that the writing style will be refined in the subsequent books, as I do believe that there's potential for an even better reading experience.
Anyway I'm eager to see where the series goes from here and would recommend it to anyone who enjoys fantasy, paranormal romance, or just a good old-fashioned adventure....more

I am glad I gave it a try. This book has everything I love to read in a fantasy book: slow-burn romance, great characters, an adventurous journey, magic, fights, secrets, and most thrilling of all, a quest to find a hidden island. Of course, it started with a slow but solid foundation, which is why I think every aspect of the story turned out perfectly balanced to the last page. And the ending has me so excited for the sequel. I can't wait to read the next book!...more
