Plus, in all the years since writing The Princess, it seems that Ms. Deveraux has forgotten some details because she got something wrong about Aria and J.T.'s story...more

Honestly, I thought it way too elementary for 5th grade, but seeing as I'm not a teacher, my opinion really doesn't matter. The story was cute, but there were times when I was confused by the story and the images weren't explaining it to me. Eventually it came together, but for a book that is easy to read and has illustrations to accompany the story, I don't think I should have been lost. But with that said, it was fun and cute and would appeal to any child who likes comic book super heroes and pets. And it does come with a nice little moral: family comes first and don't neglect your pets....more
I have a hard time trying to think of how I would rate this book. Quindlen is a beautiful writer and I enjoy reading anything she puts down on paper. I have a hard time trying to think of how I would rate this book. Quindlen is a beautiful writer and I enjoy reading anything she puts down on paper.
However.
This book destroyed me. I never saw it coming. I never read any reviews for it and the inside jacket (had I read it) didn't give anything away, so when the middle of the book happened, I felt like I'd been punched in the stomach. And then I cried for the remaining half of the book. While the story is beautiful, I'm almost mad at Quindlen for doing that to me. For sucker-punching me. For making me cry. Because, much like the main character, I never saw it coming.
Four stars for being beautifully written and compelling, but lacking that one extra star simply because I'm mad....more

This time it's 4 high school seniors who were killed in a car accident...and they want revenge on the nerdy drive of the other car that caused them to crash. But it was an accident...or was it?
Sometimes Suze annoys me in that she's so physical in her responses and doesn't let anyone in emotionally. I'd like to see some character growth there....more

I was annoyed with America's inability to be honest with herself and for also stringing Maxon and Aspen along. But mostly I was annoyed with the King and what the former US had turned in to. Honestly, it was almost offensive for me to read that my country had turned into a dictatorial monarchy. It is such anathema to me that it just made my insides crawl. I'm an American to my core, I guess, and fully believe in "home of the free"....more

America's waffling between her feelings for Maxon and her feelings for Aspen started to really annoy me and made it hard to get through the book. Luckily, the end of the book had a nice twist that propels the story along and takes the focus somewhat away from the drama of the romance. It's nice to have a reprieve from that....more
