Your characters had plenty of chances, throughout the three books to act in ways this reader would have them do, but no, you kept them firmly in check, and they remained true to themselves. The ending, while not expected, gave me hope for humanity, now and in the future.
If you're at all interested in science fiction, and from a woman's point of view, I can't recommend The Broken Earth Trilogy enough. All three books received the Hugo award for best novel and I totally agree! Well worth the read....more

I'm appalled this book was published; the author or publishing company didn't bother getting an editor or the editor hired did a poor job. There's a reason for the saying, "Show, don't tell," and the author clearly doesn't have it yet....more

The book is filled with exercises demonstrating various techniques, and each successive exercise builds on the ones that came before.
The author gives you almost a step-by-step guide for each exercise, and that "almost" was maddening. I kept having to figure out the steps leading to where I was, and that's why I gave this only four stars. I could have done with one less exercise, if it meant so many steps wouldn't be left out.
I went through the entire book, and finished feeling I knew so much more about using my watercolor pencils than before starting, and that is why this book "almost" got five stars....more

I'm not sure I bought this book years ago, probably when my son was first diagnosed with autism. For some reason I never picked it up until recently. I'm not sure whether reading it earlier would helped me parent my son or not. But it's well-worth reading, filled of stories of how the author was able to get through t0 children seemingly unreachable, and also some with strange habits....more

I looked it up and saw it was first of a trilogy, all three of which had won a separate Hugo award, Sold! I bought the second book in the series before I finished the first, knowing I wanted to keep reading about the story and characters.
The characters are well-drawn and unforgettable. The time, hopefully not in our future, also well-drawn and unforgettable....more

The "mostly true" makes one constantly wonder what's true and what's not, though usually the author lets you know. There is at least one LOL moment in every chapter. My favorite parts were the conversations the author has with others, mostly with her husband. This was actually pretty entertaining, overall, with a few rare down points....more

I did get tired with all the couples (except the very last one) being all celebrity couples and wished they'd talked to some couples who weren't in the public eye. That said, I found it interesting, in that it validated my own personal observations that what makes a marriage last is unique to each marriage. My favorite interview was with Jamie Lee Curtis and her husband Christopher Guest, and her comment: "You want to make a marriage last? Don't leave."...more

Not that you won't enjoy this one but I think knowing the main continuing characters makes this book all the more enjoyable.
Robert Galbraith (AKA JK Rowling) just keeps getting better and better.
Billy Knight comes to see Cormoran Strike about a murder he witnessed when he was very little. He's now a grown man and wants to see it resolved. Little does Strike know what he's in for!
The dialog is wonderful and the plot and many twists make this a delicious page-turner!...more

Tensions are high between the "mints" (like those who have enough money to live on) and everyone else. Lyndall suffers a terrible personal loss and even her boyfriend's love and continued attention can't get her out of the depression she's in. When she hears about a project to explore time, she signs up, and finds herself in a new world and time. She's not the only one from the 23rd century and eventually they meet up and face the cultural and aspects of their new home.
Though I wished occasionally the author had gotten a better editor, it didn't stop me from thoroughly enjoying the story. I love science fiction that makes me think about the possibilities, while keeping in mind human communications and relationships, and that's what I got from this story....more
