Little Lottie has wandered off.....
Her mom is frantic and the search begins....
I was intrigued enough to finish. There was misdirection and red herrings along the way. I had a few theories (all were wrong). Overall, it was too long for a missing child story. I was more than ready for the "wrap up"! The narration also became too frantic and dramatic. Alex seemed like she was about to unravel at any second and her voice was making me anxious. I kept thinking, "Please find her before I lose my mind".
If you don't mind the plot holes and an OTT end, it might be entertaining enough.
I think I've read too many books with this trope, so I'll give it a rest.

A quick little popcorn read!
My first by this author who has many fans and has written a bunch of popular psychological thrillers in the last couple of years. The Passenger is free on KU (at the moment) and I have it on my list to read soon.
I enjoyed his straightforward writing, pacing, and the first person narration from the main players. It is the kind of book you can just zoom through even though the plot was mostly predictable with an underwhelming feel.
The characters are standard with some to cheer for and some to detest. One character I really liked added some wisdom of forgiveness and not being consumed with anger forever. This is a revenge story though, and a fairly standard one.
It was a quick one which doesn't require much thinking, grab your coffee kind of read!
Thanks to NG and the publisher for my arc. OUT March 13, 2022

Domestic Drama
I enjoyed this much more than her last, but it fell short in overall pacing. We spend a lot of time with the married couple Iris and Gabriel and their guest, Laure. She is having marriage trouble with her hubs, Pierre. Apparently, he has upset her by revealing a secret from his past.
There is a good mystery woven into the plot, but I grew tired of the characters discussions, worries and day to day lives that circled around a littIe too long. I also became annoyed with the guest Laure and wanted to kick her out myself! Gees! I wanted to scream, “I’ve had enough”! ...more

Pay Attention - Because, it took a lot of focus to sort out the many characters and their many connections. WHEW! I needed a who's who cheat sheet!
I'm not even going to go into the plot because of the many twists and turns it takes. Feeney does deliver on the unreliable narrators. Have some patience and it will pay off!
The characters are all battling their own demons, a baby is stolen, and a murder happens in a care home. The puzzle is in putting all these happenings and motives into place!
A twisted journey with a couple of gasp worthy moments.

My First Reads pick for March 2023
A domestic drama that focuses on two women who seem trapped in their marriages and timid in their behavior.
I disliked the men and felt like the women needed to wake up. They both gave their husbands too much control. The story moves a steady pace and kept me reading to see how their stories would connect.
The shocker happens after 75% and it did catch me off guard! I had that feeling of someone pulling the wool over my eyes! What?!
There is just a bit of tension throughout, some emotional abuse, steady pace and a satisfying ending (though mostly far-fetched).
If you enjoy those Lifetime movies that keep you hooked, you may also enjoy this family drama. I can easily imagine this one on the screen....more

This is the second book I've read this week that used a "Knives Out" comparison! I was planning to go ahead and watch the movie, but apparently it isn't available in the US.
I was intrigued by the premise and thought this one sounded right up my alley, but it went to the wrong address!
Love, love the adorable cover and did enjoy the MC. That is where it ends though. After a promising beginning, there was no suspense, too much back and forth chit chat and background history going on with the dysfunctional family, and I totally lost interest.
There is a tiny bit of a romantic interest that develops, but it fell flat. I didn't like the "witty" humor either. It was cringey for me. The plot needed to be developed more and the conclusion was just a head scratcher.
If you enjoy a dysfunctional house/family with some light suspense and a certain kind of humor, it may work better for you.

Look at the cover! The key, the creepy log house and the spooky woods!
On her website this is described in a quote as a "can't put it down thriller", well, no! I would not describe it that way.
Not a complete flop, but it slowly fizzled as the plot was revealed.
I liked Maya, but she suffered from ALL the things - lack of sleep, drug addiction/withdrawal, and teetering on the edge of psychosis. Definitely an unreliable narrator.
I do enjoy debut and while the premise drew me in, the writing felt uneven/choppy and the transitions weren't smooth sailing.
Then the ending was so disappointing. It felt like the author just pulled it out of a hat! ...more

Let'sAlex finds a book waiting for her on the front doormat! Who doesn't love bookmail, right?
She wonders if it is "another run-of-the-mill thriller."
Let's just say it is not!
She soon realizes that her life will change forever.
She is a journalist and this gifted book titled, Falling, will send her to Cornwall, chasing answers. You see, the author was murdered, just like the character in the book. Alex has a sense that something isn't right.
I was wrapped up in the mystery as well as the book within the book. A fascinating premise, with a quick pace and eerie setting. The ending went in a different direction than I thought it was heading. A bit too far from the cliff (no I didn't like it), but still a compelling read! I've read my share of "cliff" books this year and this one kept me reading.

More of a journey, than a destination. By the end,As I think back, it all fits into the puzzle.
Two headlights, an official looking car, like governmental perhaps? An aerospace rep. telling the residents that OuterMore has chosen one of them. I kept thinking it was like one of those Publisher Clearing House reps going up to someone's door to announce they've won the lottery!
Okay, a nice hook in the beginning chapters. I was curious, the author had me. I knew early on that something wasn't quite "right".(view spoiler)[the narrator has no quotes, but the other characters do. (hide spoiler)] There are more plot happenings that will clue you in to the twist that comes.Things that happen seem nefarious and go on behind the scenes, which created lots of thoughts/questions.
Nothing is straightforward, but red flags are waving throughout. You are required to think a bit beyond the pages and I love that!
There is a lot of relationship yin and yang with an emphasis on marriage and how well you know your partner. The nonverbal, the habits, the expectations. I needed more! Characters felt too flat and uninspired (maybe they were).
A lot of tension and unease, but also boring day to day tasks (going nowhere) and predictability in the big twist! I wasn't surprised. I'm sure that affected my enjoyment. I guess this is considered Sci-Fi, but I didn't find it had anything new to offer, except maybe lots of pondering!
I will read another from the author. Really wanted to give this a four, but can't wholeheartedly recommend. Try it for yourself and see.

Becca's husband, Rick, has some scary skeletons in his closet. Becca is getting some suspicious vibes and starts googling him from work. She is a librarian, so she can sneak in some research time.
She takes bizarre and desperate measures. So much so that I found her actions hard to comprehend. It seems very far-fetched.
I haven't disliked a husband character this much since Jack from Behind Closed Doors (B.A. Paris). I felt so bad for Becca and couldn't wrap my head around how she could let Rick manipulate their marriage.
You probably have the picture here. The ending wasn't predictable, but made me feel very conflicted.

Does Frankie have an anger issue?
Some of her closest allies think so, and now she is in therapy for anger-management. Her assignment is to make a list of the people she needs to forgive. She writes the names in a notebook and when it comes up missing, she fears the worst.
She panics!
She needs to find out who has her notebook and goes to great lengths to get answers. As things progress, the story gets into "predictable" land. Twists and turns kept me readinge (even when things became pretty ludicrous).
I think my expectations were sky high, after her last novel, Never ComingHome, which I had a blast reading.
It definitely has some fun moments, if you don't get as annoyed with Frankie and some of her behavior as I did! This is just my opinion and I will be first in line for this author's next novel!

This maid has a problem. She gets a real kick out of snooping around the homes she cleans. She actually gets a dopamine rush.
One day she sees something that puts her on a dangerous path. She shouldn't have gone there! Problem is there is also a mysterious "woman in a window", she also has a snooping prob! And what did she see? Plenty!!
Lots of twists in turns in this one. I couldn't stop listening as the clock kept ticking. Lots of pieces that eventually linked together, plenty of suspense, and a scream in the night ,made this one incredibly addictive.
This was a Amazon First Reads for March 2023 and an Audible audio narrated by Jane Oppenheimer who did an amazing job. 12 hrs/10 min

Another crazy ride from Becca Day! I had to read it after enjoying her debut, The Girl Beyond The Gate.
Best friends Cynthia and Alex are as close as sisters. Two lionesses protecting their cubs. They live on the same farm, raising their familes and navigating life. And then Alex makes a bad decision, her emotions running high, screaming like someone in a horror movie as she does the unthinkable.
I was hooked from the beginning and playing detective alongside Alex and DS Stefani. The feeling of something isn't right, something is off was running high.
Chapters filled with tension and hidden clues, omg moments, toxic family issues, screwing with crime scenes and my suspects changing faster than the channels when the hubs has the remote. A few chapters were a little too detailed, a few eye rolling scenarios, but then she'd throw in another hoop to jump over. I was judging everyone............
