Once I was about 1/3 of the way through though, it picked up. I wavered between 3 and 4 stars, but ended up going with 4, because in the end I enjoyed the premise, characters, and the uniqueness of the story.
There is a lot of back story and world building here, and while most of it is great, some of it needed more development to make sense. Despite that, I did enjoy it, and would recommend it. I'd also enjoy a sequel. ...more

However, inI read this and #4 (in volume 2), and my review is pretty much the same for both. I enjoyed both stories - the premise and the characters. If the first book in this series was rushed, this one was on fast forward. I felt like there was a lot of contradiction (Kevin and James called each other pet names, but at one point Kevin took objection over it, while all of the either times it was fine, and it was fine when he himself was doing it). I felt like the mating rules weren't followed consistently between this book and book 1, either. There were also a few instances where things didn't track (they were on the floor, then inexplicably they were on the bed), and they threw me completely out of the story. Still, I like the premise, and I do enjoy Amber Kell's stories, so I definitely plan to continue with the series....more
