A fascinating behind the scenes of Adrian Edmonson’s life. From his school days through to the Comedy Store, Ade gives us a vivid account of life interspersed with his musical memories.
He hits the public psyche when The Comic Strop Presents starts on Channel 4 in the UK and then very shortly after The Young One’s is on BBC2. It is that show that my mother hated, that had such an affect on many growing up in the 1980’s. Ade and Rik Mayall became a comedy duo, writing and staring in Bottom - another favourite of mine, and not my mother, but this book is far more than those 2 shows. It is a glimpse beyond the stardom of a comedy legend.
Adrian writes well, it is funny, poignant and captures the essence of the Berserker. He has conversations with the reader, almost like he is having a chat down the pub with a pint.
Really enjoyable, 5 stars, you utter utter bastard ...more
“it begins with fear” says the cover…. It certainly does. A new Chris Carter book is always a celebration in our house, both my husband and I are big “it begins with fear” says the cover…. It certainly does. A new Chris Carter book is always a celebration in our house, both my husband and I are big fans. There was an argument over who would read it first, and I won as ai read faster than he does. I settled in on Saturday night and read 200 pages, and then demolished the rest on a lazy Sunday. I wanted to finish it but savour it at the same time.
Chris Carter books are addictive. You know those TV series that you can’t get enough of.. his books are like that. I am a big crime/detective fiction reader and they can be alot for me. It takes a lot to scare me these days in books.. Genesis scared me, after the first chapter, I was checking all the doors and windows were locked.
These are some of the most gruesome crime scenes I have read. Hunter and Garcia cannot believe what they are seeing and they have seen a lot of them. Some of them turned my stomach. This is one sadistic killer. The pieces of the puzzle are slowly revealed and it all comes to a chilling and surprising conclusion.
This book will not be for everyone, I totally appreciate that. There are some strong themes of suicide and mental health throughout the story and I think that the author did a wonderful job with it. The dedication at the start is beautiful and made me cry even before I started to read it, The end of the book has details of helplines for those who are struggling. As someone who has needed these resources in the past.. thank you Chris. Such and important message.
I couldn’t love this book anymore and it up is up there with The Caller for my favourite in this series.
If you like dark, disturbing and very messed up crime books.. this is the series for you....more

I always love to watch his stand up and appearances on talk shows. But my favourite Bill Bailey role is absolutely Manny from Black Books. I can watch that show over and over and not get bored. He always manages to make me laugh.
So when I saw that he had written a book of stories, drawings and thoughts on happiness I had to get my hands on it. Written mostly during lockdown due to Covid, he talks about his personal experiences with different ways to that make you happy. From reading books, watching sport, swearing... whatever it is that lifts your mood.
It is funny and relatable and very Bill Bailey. Highly recommend ...more

I can imagine that looking back in years to come there will be parts of last year that we will forget and this book will definitely bring it all back.
Of course there will be the things that we will never forget... the bushfires, working from home, BLM, the toilet paper debacle, face masks... you get the idea. But in a year that we would mostly like to forget, Dominic Knight makes us laugh with this definitions of the year. New words that came to be part of our everyday language and the people we would come to know so well through the press conferences.
A must have for all Aussie homes.
Thanks to Allen and Unwin for sending this one to me and making me giggle and remember....more

You havDavid Mitchell is a very funny man - he is also very clever. My family are all English and I married an Englishman so we watch a lot of UK TV. You have probably seen David Mitchell on QI, Would I Lie to You, Mitchell and Webb and plenty of other UK programs.
When reading this book I was reading it as I imagined he would be saying it all - hard not to. I really enjoyed this look at life through David's eyes - a series of columns from a British paper. He talks about everything from Trump to Brexit, from Champagne to chocolate, cosmetics to God and everything in between. There is a lot of talk to UK politics as you would expect but some of this went over my head (politics is not really my thing) His views on cosmetic surgery, advertising and the BBC did make me laugh.
This is a book that anybody can enjoy. Very entertaining. Thank you Allen and Unwin Australia for my copy of this book to read....more
