Ockler's writing is so lyrical and magical; I had no problem believing that this is a retelling of The Little Mermaid. It was also so wonderful to see a diverse MC, especially one that literally can't speak. A wonderful summer read that was fun, but also tackled some serious issues. Bravo, Ockler. Bravo!...more

First off, Alex is one of the most unreliable narrators that I've ever had the pleasure of reading, and it just endured her to me more! Second, everything about this book is gold! We get all the drama of our MC being schizophrenic and everything that entails in a teenager, but also there's this mystery element to it that has nothing to do with her mental illness.
I loved everything about this book, and I couldn't have been happier with the ending. Truly well done!...more

I'm not sure how I really feel about this book, and that's mostly because I love and hate what happened at the end. That's actually the reason for me I'm not sure how I really feel about this book, and that's mostly because I love and hate what happened at the end. That's actually the reason for me giving it 4/5 stars. We spend so much time focusing on one thing in this book, and it overshadowed a lot of things, and then it ends up not really mattering in the end. You'll see what I mean when you read this. And I definitely think you should read this book. It deals with loss and heartache, panic attacks and losing yourself in the grief. I really enjoyed the ride that this book took me on, I just wish it had ended differently....more

When I saw that this book wasn't being published by the same publisher that brought us her Across the Universe series (Razorbill, a subset of Penguin), I thought that it was because it must not be that good. But, honestly, I liked it just as much if not more than her other series. Actually I still haven't read the final book in her Across the Universe series (which I'm really motivated to do now!). This book was all I'd hoped for and so much more. The twists were in true Beth Revis fashion, and the romance was more complicated that I thought it'd be. Overall, I really enjoyed this book! Revis is truly a master of sci-fi!...more

1. Lack of normally-conjunctive words, especially when speaking. 2. Cheesy to the point of being annoying. 3. Parts of it were a lot like Twilight and not in a good way. 4. The writing just felt unpolished.
The idea was really solid, and there were a couple surprises, but overall it could've been better. Not sure if I'll continue the series or not......more

I think we've all felt something similar, though her problem definitely needed some help. I feel like if I was a child of divorce, I'd understand more what she was going through with her dad, and I'd hoped that he wouldn't remain an ass until the very end because I have a great relationship with my dad.

It works really well for a mystery thriller like this one. I did, however, have a small problem with the twists. There was one right near the end I wasn't expecting, but there was another that the character guessed early on and it ended up being true. I guess I wish there'd been a little more mystery on that part, but with the cliffhanger, I can't wait to read the second book of what I believe is a duology. Either way, Anna Carey's new book really blew me away!...more
