Thinking it might be the preference expected of a 9-10 year old, I decided to give Nancy Drew another try as an adult. I guess Nancy is just not for me. She spends most of the time riding around in her car and talking to herself. YAWN. I thought I had read book number 1 as a kid, but I'm thinking not. I must have read other Nancy Drew books because I distinctly remember her friends Bess and George and they are not even mentioned here. So maybe the books get better once she has friends to pal around with and help her out. In the Bobbsey Twins books, there were always at least four kids together (sometimes more when their friends or cousins were involved) and there was non-stop action.
I reread the Bobbsey Twins two years ago and read The American Girl series last year, so my plan was to tackle Nancy Drew next. I'm not sure if I'll keep on going. It looks like Bess and George don't show up until book 5 and I'm not sure I want to plod on until that point to see if they improve. Maybe I'll hunt down some of the old Trixie Belden books instead.
