Obviously a debut book, due to some of the reviews I read, but it shows the author has what it takes and will only get better with more experience and rounding of technique.
My pleasant surprise came from not quite figuring out who 'done-it' until closer to the end. I have one of these horrible knacks of working out who the antagonist is fairly early on in movies and books and this book successfully kept me guessing longer than normal. In hindsight, the hints are definitely there though to work it out.
Anyway, fluid style, great character development and I actually liked the in-depth gang tag dissection section. It wasn't absolutely necessary but it led depth to why Christopher would decipher the complete message his brother had left.
The flash backs & memories showing how our guys were 'damaged' were deft and not overdone. My only complaint is that I wish there had been an epilogue, only so our MC's could have had another rollicking round of hawt, seriously hawt sex..... ...*sigh*... maybe a sequel???? .....pleeeeeze.....
Yes, I'm off to buy the author's next book now........more

In fact, I was actually enjoying the read as there were few typos or editing errors and the pace was consistent through the development of the story. I could have actually given a 3.5 or a 4 star if it had reached a satisfying ending. I was of course well aware that this was to be a series and other authors seem to be able to produce satisfying endings while maintaining suspense.
Anyway, I digress, so, the development of the main characters was quite good and there were hints of further developments to the story line based upon their interactions and glimpses of their memories of their individual pasts. The point of view was alternating between the two main characters and you could enjoy the differing views on the various circumstances that the author introduced to intensify the plot.
From the synopsis, the reader knew that an adversary was going to be introduced and, generally how the author treats the outcome of this conflict depends upon how the author plays the reader's emotions to this character's flaws. This is of course all World Building 101.
Unfortunately, this author committed the most grievous sin in my eyes, one that I found most dissatisfying and which dropped my final point level to one star. I will not buy any more of this series until I can determine, once the books have all been published, if the author redeems herself in a subsequent publication. Of course, this means I need a revealing hint in the synopsis of each book. I doubt this will occur unless some vampire premises are shaken to the core of World Building 102.
(view spoiler)[... For heaven's sake, you do NOT kill off one of the main characters when a reader has become emotionally attached to them, particularly for a HEA, in the final few pages of the story.... this is a Romance????? ... really??? ..... seriously??? (hide spoiler)]...more

I think there are many great reviews over the last few years so I won't add to the amazing descriptions ..... which I just knod my head in agreement with ...over and over...again.
So, here we are several years later, and I'm still trolling for a sequel. There is a great interview on the boys and their story here... https://boysinourbooks.com/2013/12/09...
However, *sigh*, it does little to sooth my need for another dose of Riley, Misha and errrmmmergerrd McClane.....
It's been a few years and I'm currently reading Bone Rider for the 7th (10th???) time. A-a-a-a-and every time I finish it (again), I wonder if there's been a sequel....a-a-a-a-and...nope...*sigh*... I understand that muses can be pains in the arse and, in this case, the friken MC's are probably too busy doing ...things.... But seriously, they gotta come up for air sometime!!
The ask a question section below didn't give enough word space to write all of this so, here is the alternative means of getting some thoughts together from all of the readers wanting more... which may act as an electroprod to Ms Fally's poor muse. I don't wish to contact the author directly; I wish to respect her privacy so-o-o-o-o-o I'm hoping she'll check in here....plus possibly other readers may wish to comment and come up with ideas/scenes... There are so many plot threads which could be developed as Ms Fally was so meticulous in developing the background and potential of all her characters.
For instance, there is the section early on which alludes to the Alien movies and then there are the thoughts on medical research by Lieutenant Dr. Leandra Butler. With McClane's abilities, he should be able to constantly do internal maintenance and repair to Riley which would lead to long-life/immortality...after all, System Six was the final prototype developed, and undergoing trials on the ship, which then crashed BOOM no more research and poor McClane probably hasn't even given any thought on what the long term consequences would be to the host body?
So, would Riley start to worry about Misha aging???...or could Mafia connections try to 'remove' Misha by 'cleaning up' lose ends??? What if Misha is hurt, could McClane 'go in' to do repairs???
Could McClane reproduce by replicating himself??? What metals/materials does McClane comprise of? Rare Earths? Salvageable metals from the ship? Artificial or laboratory created composites??? ...and so we get back to Leandra Butler with her inside position to acquire materials, research possibilities or create alternatives.
Can anyone else come up with some plot bunnies???
Please add your thoughts by replying to this as I'm really also very interested in seeing what other readers imagined as tangents and plot extensions to this amazingly complex story....more

This book was more of a let's touch bases and see what they've been up to, possibly a lead into the next in the series *crosses fingers for another story*...rather than the in-depth complex story R.J. has given us previously.
One quote, "He really did not want to be sitting in this room with a bunch of old men who wouldn't know ethical exploration if it was lubed and stuck up their asses" had me seriously snickering.....
This series, even though this particular book wasn't as accomplished as its predecessors, has now definitely been delegated to my "stalk author for new releases" shelf....more

In the final few pages we have (view spoiler)[a paternalistic Aegis just because Ayden had his 'song' back, Freyrik 'saved' by Mother Megin, the maelstrom of betrayed elders...gone ....and where the heck was Kona?
I also feel there were some serious plot foils for a series that is so brilliantly written and solidly put together. I have to ask why the Elf nation never sought the source of the Hunter's Call, in the end it wasn't that hard to find. For a seasoned warrior, with hundred's of year's experience under his belt and contempt for humans that 'never-look-up, Ayden's capture was just a little too pat (hide spoiler)]
There were so many other little things introduced in the series which could helped round out the final chapter to a more satisfactory conclusion. Ayden upslapping Freyrik's son to the back of the head would have been nice moment. ...more
