This book was different from all the books that came before in the Discworld series. It was much more serious, and although there was still the humourous language and the setting is still as absurd as always, the theme was an almost philosophical pondering of Religion vs. Belief and a personal relationship with whatever higher power you believe in. Sifting through religiosity and mindless obedience, to what is really important to you and those around you. Yes, the bad guy was not a true believer and used the "rules" and created by ritual superstitions, for power and control to a degree where the ritual became a barrier to true belief, and maybe he was too much the one dimensional villain, and our protagonists was too much of the earnest young man archetype, but Pratchett wove their tale with his typical ironic genius, and I am once again left wondering if there is anything that this man could do without a flair for sarcasm and his superpower of observation...
I am in love with Terry Pratchett's prose, which can be laconic while creating detailed pictures in the reader's mind, that are vivid and memorable. I think readers in different stages of their lives could take different things from his work, and there are plenty of treasures in these short bound miracles that are his books ...more

Headology and Symbology are better than plain old Magic any day!!! ✨✨✨
This is actually a very thoughtful entry in the series, as well as enjoyable as always. Also as always, the story is a tad secondary to the ideas and situations. Every sentence is loaded with meaning and the whole book can be used as quotes. The Maiden, The Mother and The Crone are archetypes everyone can relate to and their power is universal. Stories ARE ALIVE and we have to be careful about the stories we tell about ourselves and write ourselves into.
I absolutely love the audio for the series, however in order to catch all the word and linguistic gymnastics, I would recommend eye reading it first, or concurrently with the audio.
I wish you all Happy Reading and may you always find what you Need in the pages of a Good Book ...more

I know everyone enjoys different books, and I think that is one of the best parts of being a reader. Not all would enjoy the seemingly chaotic, deceptively light, and humor of The Discworld, but I think everyone should at least give it a try ...more

I loved it! Yes, it was probably the weakest of the books so far, probably because of the last 30% being a bit chaotic, but I still loved everything that this author provides - clever turn of phrase, humor, very human emotions in a very laconic way, and just a ton of thought provoking situations. Rushed ending, it could have been more structured, but overall, still a lovely and fun read! Looking forward to the next book! ...more

What can I say, which has not been said about the brilliant Terry Pratchett? He is still the best at bringing humor to absurd Fantasy, and we as readers just have to buckle up for the ride! I am happy to be reading the series with my friend Mel, and the shared joy of following our reluctant heroes through the Diskworld, makes the experience even more cherished! Highly recommend to all...more
