I'm tired of reading stories about weird "misunderstood" men sexualizing women in the creepiest way. I am not the audience for this book, I wanted it to get way more creepy or weird or interesting, but instead we spent most of the story in the head of this weird guy who is sexualizing one of his female friends. I was bored and I wanted more. I don't think this is the author for me tbh....more

I'm usually a big fan of grief horror and body horror, and while I did enjoy those things about this book, the writing itself just wasn't that great (in my opinion). The horror elements of this book were done so well, lots of gory descriptions of this character peeling off his skin, it made me a little squeamish at times, which is what I want out of a book like this, but I also couldn't stand any of the characters, especially his brother. There was also a story within a story element to this book, and those chapters also bored me, and I found it got so repetitive with the rereading some of the same chapters from the story over and over again. This just didn't work for me sadly....more

Maybe this is a me thing, because slashers are very hit or miss for me (mostly miss), but I wanted to read this one anyway since I have loved other books from this author, and I love books about filming movies! But this book had the most obnoxious cast of characters, I really disliked all of them and I understand that that was probably the point, but not only were they unlikable, but they were also so incredibly one dimensional. By the time horrific things started happening to them I just didn't care. I also think the story takes a long time to get going, nearly 100 pages in before the action and plot starts to pick up and it's only a 230-page book. I was hoping to connect with this more, but this book was just not for me. I do still plan to read more from this author in the future though, I want to check out his new release Rotten Tommy, maybe that'll be more up my alley.

And this kills me to feel so meh about a book that everyone seems to be loving so much.
This book took me 4-5 days to read, which is such a long time for me. I am usually the type of reader to finish a book in 1-2 days but for some reason with this one I wasn’t as excited about picking it back up to read so it took me so long to get through it.
Here are some of my thoughts: •I’m not a huge fan of childhood friends to lovers, second chance romances, or reading about road trips in general so I might not even be the right audience for this •I also really hate miscommunication in romances and I feel like there was an excessive amount of it in this book •I thought Logan was obnoxious as f*ck, and she has the personality of a thirteen year old boy, especially in the first half of this book •I kind of hated how Logan and Joe would team up and tease Rosemary for being uptight about certain things when Rosemary had a very valid reason for doing most of the things she did and her reactions most of the time were fair (especially with the weed scene?) •The “Demi fucking Lovato” and cussing with celebrity names got old so fast and got really annoying and repetitive •I loved the writing in this about the landscapes, but especially the descriptions of the PNW at the beginning of this •Joe is the best character by far, he’s freaking great I loved him. •The ending did make me cry, I thought the ending was beautiful and so well done, but also like damn those sad scenes really got dragged out and it was so sad to read this ...more

And the tone of this book was all over the place, it would be so sad and heavy and depressing and then the next chapter it's light and steamy sex scenes. It was just odd.

This author has been mostly hit or miss for me, but I always get excited to read her books at this time of year because they're so fun! But this book was not fun. The characters were so annoying, the best friend was literally the worst and her peer pressure that pushed the protagonist into dangerous situations all the time was so annoying. The main character was such a pushover and let every person in her life walk all over her, she had no backbone. By the end of the book I was like oh, it's over? I just didn't feel connected to these characters or what was happening to them at all. I also feel like this reads like the most generic vampire story ever, if you've read any vampire fiction, this one is going to read mostly the same and not bring anything new to the table.
I also think the audiobook was so annoying, the way the narrator would change her levels of volume so much so some scenes I'd have to turn up the audiobook just to hear what she's saying, she was basically mumbling under her breath and then the next chapter she's screaming, it was so annoying. Also, I didn't like the way she narrated the best friend while she was drunk, the slurred valley girl type of voice was incredibly annoying to listen to.

But then the ending of this book goes completely off the rails, I didn't like the plot twist and I didn't like the end of this book.

I don't usually read dark romance, so I was hesitant to try this one, but it wasn't even the dark romance elements of the story that bothered me. I actually think those were the only interesting parts of the story. This was just so poorly written; these characters drove me absolutely insane. They call each other Butcher and Blackbird literally every single time they speak to each other, it's obnoxious. Nicknames are endearing when they are used every now and then, not like this.
Why do these characters read as if they are 13 years old? Talking about girl cooties? Like what? And I SWEAR if I have to read Sloane saying "You're the worst" to this man as her way of flirting ONE MORE TIME, I will lose my mind. I ran out of tabs after tabbing HOW many times she says that. Can this author not come up with anything better or more interesting? Like damn. I also wasn't a fan of her overuse of the phrase "pretty boy" idk why something about that gives me the ICK I can't stand it.
I genuinely don't understand how this book is rated so highly here on Goodreads, I felt like I was losing brain cells while reading this. I don't want to yuck anyone else's yum, but this was not for me.
2.5 stars??? What the heck. I am so SAD that I didn't really like this one that much. I am the biggest Dead Romantics and Seven Year Slip STAN, I gave 2.5 stars??? What the heck. I am so SAD that I didn't really like this one that much. I am the biggest Dead Romantics and Seven Year Slip STAN, I gave both 5 stars, and I'm not really sure what happened here with this one. But damn, I was so bored in this story. I didn't care about anything that was happening. This may be in part due to the audiobook, I mainly listened on audio, and I found the narrator's voice to be so incredibly annoying. I just was not vibing with the audiobook, and because of that I think I struggled to connect with the characters and the story. Some of the story just felt so cheesy and I cringed so many times. It was also so repetitive like damn if I have to hear about his "minty" eyes or the way he "smells like black tea" one more time I'm going to scream!! It was excessive.
I'm just so upset because I went into this book assuming I would love it, and it was so mehhhh and so forgettable for me. But take my review with a grain of salt because everyone else seems to be loving this one too, so maybe it's just me idk. I'll still be reading everything this author comes out with in the future. ...more

I don't knowI am freaking HEARTBROKEN that I didn't enjoy this book. For those who don't know, this is the 3rd book in The Kind Worth Killing series. I don't know why this book has a completely different title and cover that doesn't match the rest of the series, but the first 2 thrillers in this series were both 5 star reads for me, some of my favorite thrillers of all time. So, I went into this expecting to love it. I was sooooo let down. It sucks too because this one started off with so much potential, I was so INVESTED in part 1, I was convinced this would be a new favorite too. But then part 2 and part 3 were so boring and repetitive and the characters became so obnoxious, it was infuriating. The final nail in the coffin was the ending, what the actual f*ck. I wanted to scream I really didn't like how this book ended, it was so anticlimactic and something that was easy to predict from the first page of this book.
I wanted so much more from this. I was so excited at the idea of a book about a game show where people compete for ten million dollars. But I thought I wanted so much more from this. I was so excited at the idea of a book about a game show where people compete for ten million dollars. But I thought the games were actually so boring? And not that interesting, a little over the top and ridiculous but in a cringey way. I thought some of the twists were so obvious. All the characters read like one dimensional stereotype. The first half I almost debated giving this book one or two stars, but the second half improved quite a bit, enough for me to raise the rating to 3 stars. Even though I still think it ended up being pretty predictable. For a book about a game show, it should not have been this boring.

I was really into the first 100 pages, but then we got introduced to sooooo many characters, and I feel like the main character of the story shouldn't have been the main character. That's it? This book was interesting enough at the beginning. I thought it was definitely shallow, with wealthy privileged white people doing rich white people things, but it was at least entertaining at the start. But then the book just goes on and on and feels so repetitive and it's really nothing more than just a slice of life family drama kind of story, but the drama wasn't even that interesting? I think I just expected more from this. There's no real plot, I never felt connected to a single character and by the ending I felt underwhelmed, and I wondered what the point was?

I love thrillers that follow writers, and I love that this takes place on the California coast. What I didn't love was the amount of romance in this book, which I wasn't really expecting, and the protagonist could be a little annoying at times ignoring every single red flag this man threw her way. This book kind of read like a more vanilla version of Verity by Colleen Hoover, lol. It never got quite as interesting or unhinged as that book did. It also reminded me a lot of The Wife Upstairs by Rachel Hawkins.
