This novel was at times like having a friend shout Squirrel and totally change the conversation. The whole novel was like that. The author would be talking about her personal life and then oddly she's start talking about what she wants to eat or why these people who own something opened it. This novel was not what I was hoping for. It's very terribly written and the flow of it is terrible. It's a shame because I was hoping for more....more

Listening to this audiobook was fascinating to me. Here is this women using what God gave her and robbing jewelry stores. I don’t think you could do now what she did then. It’s all cameras and technology now.
She made no qualms about her lifestyle. I think the part I enjoyed the most was how this book was written. It’s as if Miss Doris was sitting in front of you over dinner and drinks telling you her life story. There’s no political correctness or censorship, just a real conversation about her life.
People are complaining it’s written poorly or she embellished her story. It’s written in a way that makes you want to read/listen in a day. Sometimes, you just gotta take it for what it is and enjoy it,I sure did. ...more

It was also sad how corrupt everyone was to just convict a man they knew they could. The author has stated several times, if he wrote this under fiction no one would believe it and reject it, it's truly that bizarre. Hopefully, we as a society have become more educated in recognizing and getting the help people need who struggle with mental health. ...more

How does a book that uses the word retarded repeatedly about people get 5 stars? I’m sorry to every book that I rated as crap and low because they are way better than this horrible horrible book. This was like sitting next to your gross uncle who is drunk and trying to slide his hand on your leg at Christmas dinner. It made me angry, gag, awkward and many times I was highly offended. Yea that’s a 5 star book, NOT! ...more

My fault, I didn't realize I started it too late and the library snatched it back. I had to wait almost a month to finish it and I think that's where the disconnect came. When I came back to where I had been listening the novel lacked, the shine, luster and want I once had for it. It has now become this long dragged out novel that just was all over the place and too many people to keep up with. I really dislike long novels and this was super long. IMO, 14hrs listening is to long for a novel. I know there are a lot of you out there who don't feel like you get your monies worth unless it's a phone book. ...more

I was never on the John Green train when he first came on to the YA scene. I have never read Paper Towns. I saw the movie. Now, I’m slowly making my way through JG books. I cannot believeThis novel has won the stinker of the year award, for me. I've read so far, Over 250 books, and this is the winner of the worst book. I cannot believe I actually finished this book. I did zone in and out because the story was just so ridiculous, I kept listening. I couldn't tell you the last 1/4 what really happened because my brain was shutting down from the stupidity. If you are reading this you must be thinking to yourself, well why did you finish? Because I am a sucker for books that will be turned into something on screen (movie or TV). The thing is the book will be talked about because the worst ones always do more than the 3-4 star books. This is something I wish I could give a zero to....more

The more I think about this book the more I am comfortable giving this novel 4 stars. It’s not a dramatic novel but a slow burn that I found interesting. I think when you finish a novel and you think about it and want to research it then it’s a damn good book. I know nothing about beer, not really a fan. I do love baking and I love pies. But this book is so much more than either of those topics. It’s strong female story of multiple strong females and their part in each other’s lives. Now I’m off to do research and maybe eat pie while I do it. ...more
