He takes orders from his boss like a good little subordinate. He knows what Built4 Labs is doing is wrong. That is why he is willing to assist Zombie Underground in freeing the steins. The only problem is the large male stein known as Kee has developed a little crush on Ben.
I loved, loved, loved Bed and Kee. I loved how they continually switched the role of alpha. I think that was my favorite part of the story. Kee, physically he is obviously the alpha. Yet when he begins to experience new feelings and emotions that he cannot verbally express and when he experiences the wonders of outside the lab he looks to Ben for a strong confidant. These two males were so perfectly matched. I enjoyed reading them bumbling along while they figured out how they would work out their feeling for one another.
The romance between Kee and Ben was so incredibly sweet. I had so many awe how sweet moments. I would never have imagined that a shave and shower scene between two men could have been so erotic. I’m still a bit wowed by that scene. Harris has some serious talent. She put so much heart passion into that scene.
All three books in this series work as stand alones. So if you think you want to try hot steins, erotic sex and a sweet romance you can jump right in with the third book and not be lost.

I chose to do World War Z as an audio book. I love audio books when I’m traveling. I travel often. I also travel with the Hub sometimes and I thought I chose to do World War Z as an audio book. I love audio books when I’m traveling. I travel often. I also travel with the Hub sometimes and I thought this would be something he would enjoy. We both agreed that the narration was amazing. There are over twenty different narrators, including Max Brooks as the interviewer. I loved that aspect of this audio book.
One of the things that did not work for me and I made sure not to let it influence my rating. This is an abridged version of the book. I keep wondering did we miss something that would have allowed us to get more enjoyment out of the book. What was cut? When I purchased the CD’s I didn’t even notice that it was an abridged version. This is something I will pay closer attention to next time.
I initially found the interviewer and interviewee telling of this tale intriguing. As the story progresses and different people are interviewed to share their experience with how things changed, how they were affected, or what should have been done differently, I slowly began to lose interest. The book is looking back on something that has already happened. It is as the cover states “An oral history.” I believe I am more of an in this moment reader.
I like my zombie apocalypse with a little more action, gore, and detail. The interview telling is interesting, but apparently not for me. The Hub shared my feelings and opinions. One day I will find a book that that man just LOVES. ...more

She has to convince the two alphas that she loves that they must share not only her but their duties as alphas if they want the Lycan nation to survive the coming Blood Moon. Rafael and Lucien love Falon madly. There is no argument there. They also respectably understand that the other loves her unconditionally. The problem lies within sharing. The alpha in them will not allow them to share her or the position of alpha among the pack. This in and of itself is more than enough drama. This trio figuring out how to make something work out without Lucien and Rafael fighting over Falon like she is a bone is only a tiny bit of what is going on in the pages of Blood Vow.
The Lycan nation is preparing for the battle that they are hoping will finally put a stop to the Slayers. Lucien and Rafael also have to figure out how to put an end to the crazy beast that is Fenrir. Fenrir is a threat to every Lycan that walks the earth. While it was easily discovered how to destroy him, the journey to that point adds stress to the alpha trios developing relationship. The hurdles for Falon to jump just keep coming at her at ever page turn. She is learning more and more about her parentage and family. The more she learns the more she finds that she may very well be the wedge that drives her from the two men she loves.
This series is just nonstop page turning intensity. I could not put this book down. I have been impatiently waiting to see how things would turn out for Falon since I finished Blood Law. The Blood Moon Rising trilogy kept my emotions on a rollercoaster. I went from loving Rafael and Falon while hating Lucien to loving Falon and Lucien and wishing Rafael would just move on with Anja. By the time I got to the third and amazing last book of the series I just wanted Rafael, Lucien, and Falon to find a way to make their seemingly impossible relationship work. I love how Karin put it all together.

I knew from the moment that Kalen walked onto the pages of Primal Law that he would have an amazing story to tell. J.D. did not disappoint. She gave Kalen the best book that I have read in 2012. Now I am left impatiently waiting for Hunter’s Heart (Sept 2013) the next installment in the amazing Alpha Pack series.
Kalen had a heartbreaking childhood. The atrocities that his parents bestowed upon him gave him a horrible start in life. The only break he has ever caught was Nick and the Alpha Pack allowing him into their fold. He has been on his own for so long he finds being amidst a team as a completely foreign feeling. He has never had someone to call his own, so this leaves him doubting everything in his new life. The doubts all leave him susceptible to the evil that is lurking just below the surface.
I think MacKenzie having had a normal life for the most part is what allows for the numerous bumbling starts in her relationship with Kalen. The attraction is there for both them and Kalen’s panther. They need more than attraction to make this work though. Kalen is up against his worst enemy, his self. MacKenzie struggles with how to handle all the conflicting emotions that he sends her way. I’m sure the unexpected pregnancy doesn’t affect her emotions in any way.
I stayed on the edge of my seat for the entirety of Black Moon. There were some very tense moments when I could have just shouted at the book. Nick and his PreCog visions especially ratcheted up the tension. Nick knows that Kalen will either save or destroy the Alpha Pack. These visions have been haunting him since he first got a read on Kalen. As Kalen begins his downward spiral they just become more incessant for Nick, but they never tell him the most important factor he needs to know from them. The methods that the big evil uses to get to Kalen are downright cutthroat.

The AReaders are first introduced to Kalen Black mid-way through Primal Law. He is a mysterious loner that the Alpha Pack is sent out to investigate. The Alpha Pack finds this goth raising the dead in a cemetery, to ask the recently departed about the circumstances of his death. Kalen is a vastly interesting character.
Once again readers are given just enough of this sexy mystery man to leave us salivating for his book. He leaves the compound because he senses a malevolent danger lurking. He believes it to be lurking in the nearby town, where the object of his affection, MacKenzie is out for the evening with friends.
I am just loving Kalen. I want his and MacKenzie’s book now. They are hot together in this little novella. They have just one amazing night together. Readers get to see the first layer of his protective armor peeled away by Mac. I think she is going to be the balm that helps heal his poor abused and neglected soul. I also think she will be what triggers whatever hell is in his near future. It is however one thrill ride I am looking forward to going on. ...more

Considering the atrocities they perform in the name of science the Pack knows that there is a sinister puppeteer pulling the strings of the scientists and doctors employed there. There number one goal is to bring this person down so that no more innocents are harmed in this sick goal of creating an indestructible super being.
Rowen knows her brother is still alive. She has called in every favor she can to get any lead that may tell her more about the circumstances of his alleged death. She’s used all of her street smarts and every skill she has obtained from her life as a cop to sleuth out answers. Her instincts that tell her that her brother still lives have sent her to the door of the Alpha Pack’s compound. She wants answers, even when they come to her in furry wolfed packages.
I hate to say this about Aric, he did nothing for me. I never fell in love with his character. I also can admit I don’t dislike him. He is the token snarky guy of the Alpha Pack. I typically love the sarcastic guy. My complete lack of connection to Aric had me nervous about going into his book. If I don’t form that connection to the hero or heroine their book can be trying for me to read. I love the other characters and this world enough that the pages still flew by for me.
I am so curious about Micah. He will have a long hard road ahead of him. The monsters at NewLife have left him beyond scarred. I still want to know more about the various member of the team that need their own books, yesterday. The entire cast of characters in this series is amazing. The revelations that were made about the evil that is after Kalen, the master puppeteer, and Sariel’s father were jaw dropping shocking. I cannot wait to read more of this series. I just love all these sexy black ops guys that are out to protect the unsuspecting humans.

Thinking about the one that got away, the one that broke her heart is keeping her emotions set on rollercoaster. The last thing she ever expected was for Dylan to come knocking on her cabin door, with wood.
This is a very sexy novella. Kip and Dylan are easily loved characters. Their past mistakes and misunderstandings are realistic. It only takes a tiny bit of page time for you to start cheering them towards a deserved happily ever after.
My only confusion… how were they snowed in? A hot old flame shows up on her doorstep with firewood looking hotter than ever before. The hot high school football star is now a sexy lumberjack who says the sweetest things. Kip and Dylan explore some old feelings and see that not only is the spark still there but they are now combustible. This sexy novella is overflowing with hotness. So in my humble opinion the snow should have melted away with all the hotness that is Dylan. ...more

It is filled with an amazing cast of characters, a variety of different species of beings, and a spicy romance between a very alpha male and a clever lead female that has a healthy dose of iron will.
Jax is a former Navy Seal as are many of the guys that are now part of Alpha Pack. Alpha Pack is a secret organization that fights the evil that goes bump in the night. Kira has discovered that her employer is not the type of organization she wants to work for and in an attempt to let others know she finds herself being rescued by wolves.
Kira is a heroine that is easy to fall in love with. She is trying to do the right thing when everything she has ever thought was impossible turns out to be factual. She’s a tough gal though. When her rescuer wolf loses his fur and becomes bipedal and fleshy she keeps it together. Jaxon knows that she has seen too much and can no longer stay on her own. The more time he spends with her the more he notices it is no hardship on him. He is quickly developing feelings for the little human he thought he would never feel for another.
I will admit the mating that leaves the puts the couple together taking away their choice in the solidification of the relationship is a bit clichéd. On the other hand it goes with the story and makes perfect sense in any shifter romance. The mating also leaves the opening for someone to want love and biology. It’s a double edged sword. It works for the romance, but I’ve read it too many times. I still thoroughly enjoyed reading Kira and Jax. ...more

When his parents died he embraced the role as big brother. He felt obligated to protect his younger siblings. As his military career progressed he kept with the role as a protector. He does not see himself as a controlling annoyance. He truly believes that he knows what is best for those around him, he has their best interest at heart, and he only wants to protect those that he cares about.
Penelope has created some interesting coping mechanisms. She grew up in a home where she never met her parent’s expectations. This taught her to set others expectations of her low. She lives the carefree life, never lets people close, she never lets others down. Her new roommate Colton is shaking her entire life up. He is discovering that there is more to her than she lets others see. The more they spend together the more she wants him, but she doesn’t want him controlling her life.
Opposites attract couples are so fun to read. Colton does not see himself as domineering. He has started to care for Penelope. He wants what’s best for her. After a threat harms her he wants to protect her at all costs. Penelope does not see it as protection, she sees it as a man trying to control her life. I just loved how this just raised the sexual tension even higher with these two.
I loved reading Cassie as the best friend, and the baby sister. She was a wonderful heroine to read in Operation: Endgame. Her character transitioned to a supporting role so smoothly. She provided some much needed not necessarily heeded, advice to her friend Penelope, and her big brother Colton.
I can’t wait for Chris’s story. Readers were given some very interesting details into his life. I have to admit I need to know what happened to cause some of the tension that was present. ...more
I have to admit that my favorite thing about this series thus far is the hero’s. Thad nor Anton was the perfect, can fix it all, alpha, mega hero. AntI have to admit that my favorite thing about this series thus far is the hero’s. Thad nor Anton was the perfect, can fix it all, alpha, mega hero. Anton has some major baggage. He was raised among the wizards and their evil ways. He has never known a loving touch. He has never been a part of a true team. He has never experienced any pleasantries. He does have the heart to know that what the wizards are doing to the vampire race is horrifyingly wrong. Anton has the courage to lead the vampires to the evil that is his father, the Master.
Tyra was one of those heroines that I loved for her bad assery, and then pondered if she had a death wish. She does some insane things all for the aspects of her life that she cares passionately for. Everything she does though is for the most selfless reasons. She cares for her vampire family. She wants them to prosper and defeat the wizards. She has much compassion for the humans at the shelter she works at. She has spent her life as a fighter. She is active in the battle of defending her people for the wizards.
Readers find out so much information about the wizards hate on for vampires. That was my one ‘huh’ from the first book, King of Darkness. From the information that was provided I did not know the ‘why’s’ behind this centuries long battle that the vampires and wizards have fought. Wow, the things readers learn about that fight. I am also eager to see where this goes, especially with Anton on team vamp.
I think Xander may just be my favorite vamp of this series. He is dealing with the death of his mate. He is starving himself from the diet of blood that he needs to survive, thrive, and be healthy. He has been removed from his warrior duties until he heals, thus feeds. His light duty assignment seems to be a much needed balm on his broken heart though. The advice that he dishes out seems so logical, then you read him and his grief and you just know he is strong enough to make it through the hell that he is going through.
This is one of those books that must be read in the series correct order.
My favorite quote comes from…a coffee mug. “Smile, it makes people wonder what you’ve been up to.” Considering the vampire holding the mug I was left wondering if perhaps this is very apropos and a part of who that vamp really is. ...more

Duncan becomes one of the monsters he protects people from when he is attacked by werewolves. To help ease the transformation and later control the beast he is immediately take to the unit’s doctor Holly.
Holly and Duncan had been attracted to each other from the first time they met. They had never acted on their attractions. Duncan can’t hold back now that his wolf has decided it likes Holly enough to act on those feeling. Wow, this book got hot quick. Between the action and the sexual tension that quickly moved into explosive bedroom action. This is one hot read. Holly and Duncan are more alike than either one could have ever imagined. They share the same feelings on many of the same aspects of their lives.
The Wolf Within is one of those books that I wish life would have left me alone so that I could have devoured this book like it deserves. I could have easily read this book in one sitting. Every turn of the page had me wondering if what had just happened was a set-up, who was behind the set-up, is that person a paranormal or a human, has that paranormal been wrongfully jailed. Cynthia had me guessing at every turn.
I am looking forward to moving on with this series. There are many great elements to be found here. Readers are given werewolves, vampires, a special unit of law enforcement trying to keep humans safe, and a bit of mystery and suspense. Someone is up no good, that same person obviously has some big goals where the paranormal’s are concerned. I am definitely eager to see where that will go. ...more

He is also running around the country looking for the bride that was prophesized as his at the time of his birth. And because he does not have enough on his plate he has to deal with the fact that the wizards are hunting his vampire race into extinction. The fact that he finds his future queen in a rave club, dressed like a naughty school girl, with her fangs buried into the neck of another chick…really no stress as the king.
Isabel loves to party. She has few responsibilities. Her best friend and roommate is a human. Isabel has never lived in a society where she was surrounded by other vampires and she has never known the threat of a wizard attack. She now has to deal with tall, dark, and moody telling her that she is the queen of a race that she has never embraced as hers.
I found that I could not help but love Thad. He is not the typical hero. He has doubts about so many things, yet he never read as insecure. He had the attitude of ‘I can do this, I will probably screw it up, but I will succeed eventually.’ I want to know more about some of his vampire warriors, Lee and Siddoh specifically. Siddoh has snark. He also finds humor in almost everything and at inopportune moments. He was easy to laugh at.
I would like to have known a little more about the wizard conflict. I’m sure as the series goes on readers will learn more. I’m always curious about the origin of conflicts, the big evils reasons behind what they are after, or any little bit of info. I guess that is one of the reasons I love reading from the villains point of view. I’m hoping that some of the wizard issues will be explored more in the next book, the hero is a wizard.
Overall this is a great read. The author has created an entire cast of interesting characters that I am looking forward to reading more of. Staab has a smooth writing style that makes the book flow easily. I found that it was very easy to get lost in King of Darkness. I can’t wait to read how Anton and Tyra get to their happily ever after. ...more

Leto has built Greave’s one hell of huge army while he worked for him. As the series has progressed we discovered that Leto was working for someone else, and that someone is also taking orders from someone else. Readers discover so much about all of this. I loved Leto from the beginning. The hero that was once an unknown is always my favorite.
I was a bit nervous about Grace initially. She willingly moved into a convent. The World of Ascension books are highly sexed and very sensual. I wondered how Grace and her lifestyle would play into that. I was not disappointed. Grace may in fact be an ascended vampire, but she transforms more than any of the previous heroines. She is the final member of the obsidian flame triad.
I was blown away by Endelle. Something was done to her towards the end of Obsidian Flame. This affects her in so many ways. I’ve enjoyed Endelle from the very beginning. She is warrior rough and the leader of this breather of warriors that she directs in an attempt to protect all of Second Earth from the evil mechanisms of Greaves. Endelle is as tough as her warriors. I can’t wait to read more of her.
I loved the fact that so many of the heroes and heroines from the previous books in the series had such large roles in Gates of Rapture. The Warriors of the Blood and the breh’s of the mated ones pulled together to put up a tremendous fight against Greave’s and his power mongering ways. They even had assistance from several unexpected fronts.
I was thoroughly pleased with the wrap-ups and revelations that were made in Gates of Rapture. This book makes many conclusions that will lead most readers to believe it is the final book of this series. I found a post on Roane’s website that tells readers about her future plans with the series. I was delighted by this. There are so many possibilities where she can take her extraordinarily sexy Warriors of the Blood. I know I will follow those sexy warriors. ...more

They gain immortality when they ascend. With ascension comes incredible powers and exceptional abilities. She has added in the extremely sexy mating (breh-hedden) that takes the ascended vampires through even more changes, where they are bestowed more abilities, and further changes their powers and connections to others. The uniqueness of this series is the number one reason to read the books. They are also extremely hot when the hero and heroine are in the throes of the breh-hedden.
Most of the individuals of Second Earth see their abilities as gifts. Marguerite, a Twoling (born of Second Earth) sees her Seer ability as a curse. She has been punished by those who should have loved her, imprisoned by those who claimed to want to help her with her abilities, and used by the people who saw her only as their person crystal ball. All she has ever wanted is her freedom. There is just one huge problem standing in her way, Thorne in the vice grip of the breh-hedden.
Thorne was beyond perfect for Marguerite. He understood her need for freedom. He knows of the atrocities that the seer’s go through. Thorne has witnessed his fellow warriors go through the breh-hedden. I loved how he tried to be patient with Marguerite during some of her moments of trying out freedom. He had an amazing mix of chest beating Neanderthal, and gentle giant.
Greave’s has upped the ante even more in his battle to take over first and second earth. As with the previous books readers learn a little more about him. He has issues and one of the big ones was finally revealed.
I can’t wait to get to Grace and Leto’s book. The last part that she is mentioned in made my eyes pop out of my head. She made an interesting decision. I liked Fiona’s characterI knew I would enjoy Fiona and Jean-Pierre’s contribution to this series. Thus far it is my favorite of the Ascension books. I liked Fiona’s character from the beginning. She is strong willed, she knows what she wants, she is a go getter, but her abusive years as a blood slave has left her with some vulnerabilities. She had some obstacles to overcome. Her triumphs and compassion make her a wonderful read though.
Jean-Pierre is the gentle giant that Fiona needs in her life. He seems to know what she needs before she ever realizes that she is lacking that something. They are very well matched. I love what he found from his past at the end. He deserved that so much.
I found myself loving every single moment of Marguerite’s page time. This gal is a firecracker with a short fuse. I cannot wait to get to her book! I am dying to read more interactions between her and Endelle. I think Endelle may just get her a bestie out of Thorne’s girl.
I’ve found that the World of Ascension books are heavy. I say that meaning they are fast paced, never a dull moment, but I can’t just sit down and storm through the book. Most books of this length I could read in a day. I can’t with this series. I never lose interest, but I find myself having to take a break from all that is going on in the pages. I can’t say this is a bad thing, but I wish I could just read them how I am used to. I want to know what is going to happen next. That is one of the wonderful things with this series. There is always something going on.
The insane amount of times that gd is used in this series as a whole is absurd. I can handle profanity, but that specific word is like nails across a chalk board to me. I think gd was used more in this book than the previous books in the series. That is my largest complaint about the series, and my only complaint with this book.

Wings Parisa and Antony have not only found themselves being drawn together by the breh-hedden, but they are also abruptly separated by a kidnapping. Wings of Fire picks up with Parisa being held captive by Rith for the past three months. Antony is spending every moment he can spare searching for her.
I read Parisa as more annoying than heroic. She is a complainer. She hates that her freedom of choice in all that surrounds her has been taken away. Her character protests everything imaginable at every possible moment. I also felt that Antony was more interested in her substantial breast size than anything else about her. The repetitious breast size comments got old, quick. I know a key ingredient to a good page turning romance is for the couple to not fall in love from the beginning. I like a good pursuit. These two fought it until the end though.
The one thing I find most distracting with this series is how we, the readers are given so much information about the couple to the next book. Sometimes a little mystery with who the next couple would be is nice. The amount of set up for the next couple is cumbersome. It seems to take too much attention away from the current books couple. Although this did not bother me as much as it should. I just could never find my connection to Antony and Parisa.
I am excited about the next book. Jean-Pierre and his sexy French accent is something I have enjoyed throughout the series thus far. I also think just due to Fiona’s past she will have some interesting hurdles to overcome when it comes to letting someone get close to her physically or mentally. I am also eager to find out more about Endelle’s “shorty” visitor. He dropped a few fascinating bits of information that left me very curious where that will take the ascenders.
I do love the Second Earth world of this series. The ascenders are all fascinating. The originality of the world and its mechanisms are reason alone to read these books. Roane also writes some incredibly intimate sex scenes. I love the breh-hedden connection, how it affects the characters reactions to one another, the bond they form, it is all incredibly sexy. ...more

I I honestly did not expect to enjoy A Lover Untamed as much as I did. I have had a serious hate on for Melisande from the moment she was introduced. I hated her even more after reading Hunger Untamed, Kougar’s book. By the end of A Lover Untamed I can honestly say I no longer hate Melisande, she is still not my favorite and I believe I will never really like her. She has an interesting past. Her life has been hard and it has led her to do the things that she has done. She is someone you want on your team. She may be cold, but she has honor and will do anything for her fellow Ilina’s.
Kieran is the new Fox. He makes fox shifters sexy. He has fought with and trained the Therian Guard for numerous years. He knows that he has what it takes to be a Feral Warrior. He remains hopeful that he will be marked. He knows of the trapped animal spirits becoming freed and now marking the next in line. Kieran also fits in perfectly at Feral House. The relationship between Foxylocks and Jagabelle is too funny. It also reemphasizes the brotherhood like camaraderie that these warriors have.
When the trapped animal spirits were freed from the spirit trap I knew awesome things would come from that. I have not been disappointed by where that has taken this series. I love the things that are happening with the new Ferals. The Mage have figured out a way to keep the Feral Warriors in a constant fight with themselves. They can never let their guard down. They have no way of knowing which animal spirit is tainted. It has kept the action non-stop.
As always Palmer incorporates the past couples into the current book. I love seeing the past couples present and happy. Readers are also given some new guys to drool over. Grizz had a significant role. The little info that readers are given about him was interesting. She has moved far away from home to finish her education in nutrition. Readers never learn why she up and moved away from everything that she has ever known. I got the impression she was maybe running from something, but nothing definitive was ever given there. There was no rhyme or reason as to why she picked this school, in this town so very far away from everyone she has ever known.
Joe is a mercenary. He actually states this as his job title. I found that beyond odd. I could see maybe private sector, black ops, special ops, or gun for hire. I don’t know. Anything seems more appropriate than saying I’m a mercenary, I do things for money that is probably illegal and definitely questionable. He also has something in his past that keeps him from getting a job. The circumstances behind that, who is involved in that, and how it comes full circle was overly convenient.
Susie and her romance with Joe is a perfect example of why I hate reading virgins in romance novels. She is a twenty-five year old woman in present day. She has saved her virginity. She is untouched by any man. Within less than twelve hours of knowing Joe she becomes a wanton nympho who flirts to the point of seeming like a very loose experienced woman or a total tease. Virgins in romance novels seldom work for me, especially romances that are filled with sex. Alpha Me Not is a highly sexed book.
There was an excess of characters with miniscule roles. I thought at first that this was perhaps where some additional editing was needed. Towards the end I came to the conclusion they were present to add speculation as to who the killer was. As for the suspense and mystery behind the bodies that are turning up… that whole portion of the book seemed weak.
The paranormal element was light. Susie and Joe are both part wolf. They cannot shift. They also do not know that the other is wolf. Susie does have an ability due to her wolf genes. This allows for her to be put in the center of the danger with the serial killer. The ability seemed like a vehicle that was used to keep new facts pertaining to the missing kids popping up, while putting her at risk so that Joe could have some chest pounding alpha moments.
I do not think this is a series that I would read more of. I have however read another book from this author that I enjoyed. I would definitely read more books in that series, and from Jianne Carlo. The Alpha Me Not installment of the White Wolf series just didn’t work for me. ...more

Havily has a serious hate-on for the former warrior who she sees as a deserter. She does not want to be attracted to him. Havily feels that her body’s desire for Marcus is a betrayal. She looks at the other warriors and sees men that are worthy of love, affection, and devotion of a woman. She does not see Marcus as a man of worth. Havily gets the added stress of her job with Endelle (who thinks that Havily is the biggest disappointment ever ascended and states this fact constantly) while dealing with the feelings that the breh-hedden has dropped into her lap.
Marcus comes with his own baggage. He has experienced much loss in his four thousand years. He knows that his warrior status has been the cause of some of it. He left Second because he feels that his ascended position has been the cause of some of that loss. Letting someone in again is setting up the path to more loss. Marcus has been assigned to guard her by Endelle. He can’t not be around her. He has to stay with her to protect her. The more he is around her the more he finds out that there is so much more to her than he originally thought.
I believe that at least a quarter of Burning Skies was given to Parisa and Medichi. They have the next book, Wings of Fire. While I am very interested in what is going on between these two characters, I could have waited to get it in the form of their book. I can tell they are going to have an amazing story to tell, half of it has been told already it seems. The breh-hedden has fully gripped them and they are close to combusting.
I love Endelle, I loathe Endelle. She is such a disaster. She is perfection. There is just something about her character that I really want to hate and then in the next instant I want her to be my BFF and wingman. She is awesome and she is a total nightmare completely lacking people skills. Her fashion sense would send any animal lover into cardiac arrest. I just love the catastrophe that is Endelle.
I am still bothered by the over the top amount of time that god**n is used. I’m fine with profanity. These guys are millennia old hardened warriors. I expect the language to often be colorful. GD has always bothered me though and that profane term was once again overly used with this installment of the World of Ascension series.
I had a couple of big annoyances. The scenting, I understand it is a key point with the breh-hedden. Marcus and Havily calling each other by their scent, shouting the scent in the throes of ecstasy, the repetitive reminder about who smelled what passed redundant at the halfway point. The other issue that had me shaking my head was that a small progress in the warriors favor was made with another characters death. I was shocked at who struck the killing blow. This was Marcus and Havily’s book. To see this character take that victory was odd. ...more

Most of AscI found another series that I can’t believe that I waited so long to start reading. I thoroughly enjoyed the blend of fantasy and romance. Most of Ascension moved like an urban fantasy for me. The world’s dynamics and the ascension process seemed to take precedence over the romance. With that said I want to point out that there is plenty of romance. Kerrick and Alison are nearly combustible for the majority of the book. The details that were put into the world building, the bureaucracies that keep the dimensions secret and in constant turmoil, and the process of ascension are just amazing. Roane has built a fabulously imaginative world and she has painted a very detailed picture of it for her readers.
Alison has always known she is different. She has abilities that no other person she knows has. Her abilities have forced her to not allow people into her life. She has inadvertently harmed those she cares about. The easiest solution, isolation from those she could potentially harm.
Kerrick has vowed to never let another woman get close to him ever again. He has experienced loss of loved ones due to who, what he is. He is a Warrior of the Blood. He protects Second Earth. He protects innocents from the death vamps. He is also a guardian to ascendiates. His boss has assigned him to Alison, even though everyone knows how he feels about guarding females.
It is soon discovered that Alison is not the normal when it comes to ascendiates. She has some incredible power and her abilities surpass those of most Second Earth residents. This spells trouble. The Commander and his army of death vamps can’t get her on their side, so they must eliminate her from joining forces with their adversary. This adds nonstop action to the book. Alison is thrust from human therapist to vampire warrior so fast she should have gotten whiplash.
Oh my, when Kerrick and Alison FINALLY get nekkid… HOT! The sexual tension had been radiating off of these two prior to them ever meeting. The attraction they have for each other goes so deep. It is all because of the breh-hedden (mate-bond) that ascendants are capable of obtaining. The bond process is very sexy. The possibility of them completing this bond made all of the romantic actions between Kerrick and Alison extremely sexy.
The secondary characters were fascinating. Kerrick fellow warriors are all yummy. Roane givers her readers just enough info about each warrior that you are left salivating and wanting more. Endelle, the Supreme High Administrator of Second Earth has some interesting people skills that make you love to hate her. The constant pondering by her warriors as to what she is wearing is funny and let you know that her warriors have solid respect for her even if they wish she would deliver her orders in a different manor.
