This one really helped me understand the relationships in the first book much better. You see the first meetings and how they didn't go all that well. There is so much crazy stuff going on, from the coffee shop bombing and how it's rebuilt, better and bigger than ever, to the every changing events at the wedding and it's location, to who all shows up at the wedding. Val is kept on her toes as she tries to put out each fire as it comes up. When the wedding happens it's sweet, as is the gift her mother in law gives her. Now Val and go back to fighting Zav for what is and isn't acceptable at the house. Sad this series is at an end, would have loved to see more....more

Zav is inviting everyone, planning hunts and feasts and has just learned about bachelor and bachelorette parties. You can just tell things are going to be wild. While all this is happening, Val is tasked with hunting a their, who seems to be getting one over on everyone. During this work, Val ends up learning more about her sword and almost looses it. Things got wonky when the fate of the dragons were at risk during the fight. In the end, Val and Zav were able to beat the bad guy, but it was a tough one. Now they are back to wedding planning and defiling her mother's sauna....more

Like Zav's new shoes, his quest for wedding rings and all things wedding, how Val used candy as a bargaining tool and how well it worked. Then there is a "family member" of Val's father that wants to get to know her and teach her. But who is to say if that is true, who is Val going to ask. Then as always there is Zav. Things are so iffy on her thoughts and feelings for him. There does seem to be some movement there, a sort of understanding between the two by the end, but that brings about a whole different set of issues.
Val's work life is a bit more stable, always bad guys to go after, but these dark elves are tricky and the battle was hard. It was a good thing that right at the time she needed him most, Zav showed up to help.
It will be interesting to see where things go from here....more

She had settled into her knew life and was adjusting well. The only good thing about the monster being back is that Lyrical has decided that she needs to see someone to help her get past the trauma. Those were some great scenes, to see how much better she felt, even if it was a tiny step.
I was glad that the monster was caught, loved that he was neutralized and even think it was good that Lyrical got to decide what the punishment was. Was the punishment harsh, yes, but it was the least that should have happened to him.
I find I'm intrigued by what is going on between Lyrical and Yutani. Everyone is warning her about Yutani, there must be something there, yet they are really good together....more

Val was so cynical, I loved her. I thought it funny how she tried to deal the normal way with things that weren't normal, like her Jeep getting thrown in a tree. She should have known better and lied. Her seeking therapy was funny, but you could tell she did it just to cross it off her list at the first appointment. Now the second...maybe something good will come of this.
It was great when Val realized something was wrong with her boss and she went about doing something to help her. It exposed her to many things she probably wouldn't have seen, even in her job and found an odd ally along the way. I'm not sure what I think of this partnership, mostly because this person so looks down on Val, yet wants to use her willy nilly.
I was glad with how things ended and look forward to seeing where things go from here for Val....more

The weIt sorta feels like this one can be divided into 2 parts. The parts with the were's and the parts where people are coming after Rachel...again. The were part was interesting, you would think with the focus where it is, that would be a done deal, not so much. I hated what David had to go through, but loved how Cassie proved scrappy is good, something Rachel should have remembered as she is scrappy personified.
The Coven coming after Rachel or holding things over her head is getting old. They want to hate her, yet they want her knowledge and skills. You can't have both and they haven't learned yet, if they are honest and up front with Rachel she probably share because at her heart she is a good person. Instead the Coven paid a big price and were sucked in by someone who is what they think Rachel is. I was all starting to like how things ended, until there was that last comment and you know Rachel won't leave that alone and they will suck her in, it remains to be seen just how much this will cost her....more

ShIf you are this far into the series, nothing about this book will surprise you. Rachel is being Rachel, gets into binds, but also gets out of them. She gets into them by believing the best into people, but she also gets out of them for the same reason, it works for her. So many have learned that they can trust what she says and if she can help them she will, which leads to people taking advantage of her. But they learn, they learn if they do that she will come after them with all she has to right the wrong, often at great expense to herself. That is exactly what happen in this one.
There were some great moments, Trent just wanting to give Rachel a good birthday, a new pixie in the garden bringing some interesting issues to Jenks, Rachel learning that Al really does care for her by his actions, despite what his words say and Bix, finally some movement there.
I feel like with this book Rachel has a good balance with her old recklessness and what she learned in the past, to still do some of this crazy things, but have the back up to make sure things work, whether it is actions she takes or threats she throws out. Confidence looks good on her....more

At the start of this one Rachel is having a tough time. She and Jenks can't seem to find a new place to live and they are so meh about it too, on one level. It doesn't help that the new Vampire Master is gunning for Rachel, pretty much blacklisting her from all housing and even people to help get the church back to normal.
I have to say that Constance is bat shit crazy, and that is saying a lot considering some of the vamps that have appeared in this series. I think what makes her so bad is she really doesn't care about anyone and used them all. Through the book you see where people that should be working for her don't like her and even help Rachel out in a couple of small ways, very telling.
As Rachel can't find a new place to live and she's forced out of Kisten's boat, she finds herself back at the church. Things get weird at the church, all of a sudden it becomes a sanctuary for all those other supernaturals that Constance is harassing too. The church has such a different vibe, one I think that both Rachel and Jenks like, they are helping people and in turn those people are helping Rachel and Jenks.
Things got a bit crazy towards the end, everyone seems to want Rachel to fix things, but then bitch because she isn't doing it the right way. The stupid things is all of these people know Rachel and they all should know by now that Rachel works the way she wants. She made a couple of bold moves, ones that I think are good ones, ones that are for the good of the people and the city as a whole. It will be interesting to see how things go from here....more

I did like how Raven was able to get help, so that the Raven at the start of the book was very different from the one at the end of the book. Her being kidnapped and tortured not haunting her so much. I also liked how both her and Kipa talked about Raven and how she was hurting, how to get help and their relationship through out the book. The big bad was creepy and glad that Herne and the others could help. But it was Raj who stole this book.
