I think only Baldwin could pull off this story with so much nuance given to how race and heteropatriachy work , and even so it was tough for me. I think he doesn’t shy from vulgar language, and while it was tough to read franks character spew straight up misogynistic nonsense or even fonny regurgitate this stubborn ideology (even though he thinks he’s different) I know that this is honest. I guess it’s sobering to face this language head on while also thinking ab this context of violence against black men under the same ideology that all men use to enact violence against women. masters tools…
