At first I thought I wonder why I even bother finishing it. Nobody loves anybody in this book, simply owning, owning, owning.. Except martin n marijke.
At first I thought the story is quite good. Lots of things are over the top & unnecessary but the theme itself is interesting. Then it degenerated on the last part and i lost my interest on everyone then it was pretty much counting the pages to the end for me. Btw, deep dark secret is quite dissapointing... --------------
I hope I'm not jinxing the book by adding it to currently reading. They tend to get abandoned afterwards...
So, it might be just me being a loner but I think having a twin with me 24/7 would drive me bonker. Or maybe I won't be a loner if I have a twin growing up beside me? What would you do if you're born a loner with a twin saddled on you, would you resent her?
Anyway, that aside.. 20years old twins w/ matching dress and symmetrical feature?(and I mean symmetrical to the last mole?) I think she has gone too far......more
My first read book this year is a re-read. I hve to say that although I like the story, I don't really like any of the character. Not Kay, Helen, JuliMy first read book this year is a re-read. I hve to say that although I like the story, I don't really like any of the character. Not Kay, Helen, Julia, Fraser, Duncan nor Reggie (despise him). The one I like most is probably Vivien, though she's rather a door matt.
The backward timeline does rather spoiled by re-reading. Knowing beforehand what's happened in the past when you're supposed only to know the future does making it rather pointless and blunting down the effect.

A touching story but still can't beat Fingersmith...more

The funny thing about this book is how it made rethink 2012 the movie. Reading about children being sent away to safety during the war reminded me that chilldren are the crucial link to mankind's future. The Passage by Justin Cronin used it also numbers of other WWII stories including Narnia. When the goimg gets tough you jolly well protect your future by protecting your children. This is where 2012 amazes me. They protect the art and the animal but they didn't protect mankind by alloting significant number of children? Doesn't sound like thinking to the future to me.
Anyway this has became such an OT review I better stop....more
