Like I always said; Freya Barker has the ability to write intensely emotional and realistic romances that her readers can always relate to easily and empathetically.
Lissie is the newest detective in the Durango PD – but has her own reasons for shifting to Durango. Not only is she trying to outrun her own family and their ability to make her feel guilty of not bowing down to her expectations but she is also trying outrun her own demons.
And while she is always open to something fun with her burly sulky and grumpy biker landlord – what she wasn’t expecting was a common ground with the burly biker!
[image] Yuma, our very own surly biker is a man haunted by his past and the decisions that he made; the consequences of those actions has made him the silent man that he is now, struggling with himself and the intense need that he has for acceptance and love broke my heart to be honest!
It doesn’t take long for both Lissie and Yuma to realise that the intense attraction they feel towards each other is because they both share the same edge of darkness within them – but it the soft vulnerability of Lissie that has Yuma in knots and yearning for something more permanent.
While Yuma had my heart racing; it was Lissie who had my respect – for in spite of her history and her reservations, she is the one who took the first step and opened her heart to the burly biker, even if she knew and expected him to make the stupid mistakes, that he definitely doesn’t disappoint on!
[image] While the mystery within the plot was a challenging one; what I absolutely adored was the sense of familial loyalty and love that was oozing off the plot – not just withing the MC family but between Yuma and his father as well!
With the sneak peak we have gotten of a couple; I am really hoping to read the next book soon *wink*

Okay. I am speechless - Anne Malcom is an author I have heard of; but never really picked up before the blurb of her newest release – Splinters of You - gripped my attention and just wouldn’t let go.
Our protagonist – Magnolia Grace, is a best selling author of horror novels – she is also self – professed woman of rudeness, insults, privileged and spoiled with an internal fascination with all things morbid – EXACTLY why she is a best selling author that she is.
And why, when she is facing the deadline for her new book, she buys sight unseen cottage where a young girl was brutally murdered – in a small town with the hope that she will be able to retreat far enough within the morbidity of the murder to find inspiration for the new novel as she fast approaches her deadline.
[image] Now, wouldn’t you want to know EXACTLY how this small town and its residents – the bartender, Declan, the town artist, Margot and the town recluse, Saint – shape the journey of her residence and the book in ways that she would have never imagined.
Far more mysterious than romantic; Splinters of You, is far addictive than IO actually had expected it to be – and most of that reason has to be the protagonist – she is one of the realest character I have had the pleasure of reading in the recent times – she is cold, distant and rude; but she is one whom you can’t help but adore – she is real, and she has achieved the one thing we all want to – the utter and complete acceptance of herself and her own qualities and I not only admired it, but I also envied her a little bit.
[image] And I can’t seem to forget our male protagonist either (and yes, I know I didn’t exactly name him; read the book will you?) – he was the strong, silent and lethal – but he also accepted Magnolia just the way she is; and how they each had their own sense of darkness and yet neither of them tried to bring each other to light but just complimented each other.
You might think; or rather the society that believes anything that beyond what is “normal” is wrong but their relationship; is as real as it gets; and I will fight whoever says otherwise.

Females have always been represented as extremes not just in literature but also in mythology. For females can only either be evil, like Mantara or Pagan of Virtues like Sita, in Ramayana. • But females, not just humans are quite the complex creatures and putting them forward in black and white is not just wrong, but also quite disrespectful. • Valmiki’s Women is a collection of 5 stories - all women from Ramayana - and all of them similarly put forth in a whole of black and white in Ramayana - but here, the author has put forth a different perspective from what we have been told to treat as gospel! • [image] Valmiki’s Women is my first book by Anand Neelakantan, but it was enough for me to fall for his writing style! And if you are like me, where you find yourself questioning what is generally accepted to be the truth; then anthologies like Valmiki’s Women is definitely up your alley.

Like I have always reiterated- Devney Perry can do nothing wrong for me. Her romances have all the workings that I need to read, to find a reprieve from the reality that tends to get a bit taxing on my soul.
Noble Prince, the fourth book in the Tin Gypsy series - an MC romance series that neither too gritty nor too sappy - what it is the perfect amalgamation of sexy alphas and the badass women who bring them to their knees.
What ya’ll need to know before you move forward is that while each book in the series is about a stand-alone couple, this is a slow burn series with a singular arc that started with the first book in the series; thus there could be spoilers in this review.
Noble Prince picks up exactly where the Stone Princess leaves - with our very own smexy Sheriff, Luke Rosen taking away the sister in trouble, Scarlett Marks - who is now on the run, sort of from the MC that her ex belonged to. Luke has no choice but to pick her, screaming and put her in a safe house for safety. Which works for a while, till she manages to escape (again, it’s not really an escape cause she actually just walks out) so he brings her back to his own place.
I gotta say, while I understood the whole “damsel in distress” trope - I didn’t really want that for Luke - he is such a stand up, honest to God, a good guy - he deserved a woman who could match him. I didn’t if Scarlett was ever going to be that woman for him.
Like always, I should have trusted Ms. Perry - she brought forth a wonderful connection between two characters who were, in the end, perfect for each other - and the hints of suspense sprinkled throughout the story had me at the edge of the seat right till the end.
I read this one through a reading slump; so I didn’t exactly go through it, in one sitting, but the fact that this book didn’t make me put it down uninterestedly, is the testament to the talent that Ms. Devney Perry showcases in every book!

This was creepy, weird and oh so darkly gorgeous art made it into a wonderful graphic novel that I read through in one single sitting!
Twins, Alec and Walker are extremely opposites to each other - though not as much as they both would like to believe?
At the heart of this dark graphic novel, is this relationship between these two wonderfully wounded boys - and though it’s a short read (the art is absolutely gorgeous! I am not even kidding!), the ending was a bit.. abrupt? I just needed a bit more closure to the story itself, unless there is a sequel in the works!

Okay, after listening to the audiobook of THE Switch, I totally get why people keep recommending her first book The Flat Share I have got to pick that book up -The Switch delivers a warm feeling of a tight hug just when you thought you were doing a-okay. The Switch might be categorised as an adult romance; but it is mostly be a feel good family fiction; focused on dealing with grief, familial loyalty and moving on.
Leena Colton has been struggling with... everything after she lost her sister to cancer-she has been struggling with the feelings of betrayal towards her mother, panic attacks debilitating enough to create problems in her career-so and so that she is given a forced sabbatical for two months.
On the other hand, we have Eileen Colton, a recently divorced 80 year old, who has lived her life according to society's expectations so when her granddaughter lands on her doorstep; a swap of their lives sounds exactly what they both need to kick-start their lives.
What follows is a growing up experience then both need - not just to understand themselves but to see what and how their lives have become stagnant. I can understand why there are so many readers who love the author's writing style-there is a warmth that somehow manages to put forward even through an audiobook - the sense of contentment that I got after ending this book was unparalleled.
Definitely keeping an eye out for this author's work in the future.

I have yet to read The Silent House - I have the book, but haven’t yet found the prerogative to actually pick it up (No, don’t kill me yet.)
So when I found the opportunity to read and listen to the second book in the protagonist’s unintentional quest to solve mysteries - I didn’t resist and picked it up immediately!
Paige Northwood, is the only hearing member of her deaf family - and now lives with her sister. She freelances as a BSL interpreter whenever and wherever requested and required. Today, she gets a call for her help at the School for Deaf - a school that her sister also went to - a cal to help when a young teenager goes missing in the midst of a camping trip.
What Paige doesn’t expect is that her ex - boyfriend, with whom she had a traumatic and abusive relationship with, is now an employee of the school. And while she takes a vow, not to go investigating on her own; somehow that vow takes a nosedive when she finds herself being involved in the two simultaneous cases that are in want to be solved.
This is the second book in The Paige Northwood series, though it didn’t seem like I was actually missing anything from the first book - the author has done an amazing job of actually putting the strings together to make sure that the reader didn’t ind themselves lost.
The mystery was quite intriguing; and the way Paige handles, not only her own vulnerabilities but also the case itself in spite of the danger it posed, had me thoroughly invested in the book from the start till the end.
Definitely worth a read, especially if you are a lover of mystery and thriller genre and would love to read something new.

The Project was a surprise acceptance on Netgalley - with the kind of hype and love surrounding the author’s previous book - Sadie - which I read and loved, though I still need to update my review of it - but it was an intriguing read.
And I wasn’t expecting anything less than that from The Project as well - two sisters; whose lives take diverging roads after an accident that kills their parents and horrifically traumatises the younger sister.
Lo, is trying very hard to go beyond her job as a secretary to the owner and founder of an independent news paper - she wants to be a writer, one who makes an impact with her words. She took this job, because, for her it was supposed to be just a stepping stone.
And she was trying very hard to be content with it; until one day a man steps into their office to claim that his son was killed by The Unity Project.
“Having a sister is a promise no one but the two of you can make - and no one but the two of you can break.”
The Unity Project is a “cult” that took away her sister, Bea when they lost their parent’s in a car accident and Lo was in the hospital, trying to recover.
And I swear, I would like to tell you more - but it would definitely spoil the intrigue and the actual knowledge of going through the book to understand that the vulnerability of a woman/man; who definitely feels that nothing in their life is under their control.
The Project is an emotional manipulation seated within its pages - it was easy to fall for the words written; even if there was a part of me that understood that it was all lies, but I still could feel being pulled right into those enigmatic words.
In case, you were wondering if this would be a worthy read to put on your TBRs for 2021.

Thrillers are one of my favourite genres but finding one that hits all the right spots has lately been feeling like finding a needle in a stack of needles.
Someone's Listening was quite intriguing to have me hooked on it right from the start; and I still finished it within a day of starting it.
Faith Finley, our protagonist is a practicing psychologist with her own radio show-SOMEONE'S LISTENING - but even at the start of the book it is clear that all is not well with her life.
Slowly, the reader starts to unravel the knotted threads of her life-
(a) Her husband is missing, though the cops clearly think that her husband has clearly done a" runner''; in spite of her claims of otherwise
(b) A patient has levelled serious allegations her-of misconduct-destroying her professional reputation as well as any harmonious relationship with her husband.
(c) She has been getting what are clearly threats using the words / phrases from her own book.
It doesn't take long for her to realise that she and her life is being systematically being destroyed - and she knows she is running out of time to find out who-for she knows that no one else is going to help her.
Like I said before, this book has an intriguing concept BUT was made wholly apathetic because of the protagonist-Faith is highly unlikeable character-she is selfish, impulsive and somehow comes off as cold and unsympathetic-contrasting highly with her profession of a psychologist.
And while I read the book within a day; it does not mean that it was because I was on pins and needles to find out what was going to happen-I just wanted to check if I had guessed the bad guy or not.

Karin Slaughter does it again - I went into this one, expecting another intriguing and spine chilling thriller and I was not disappointed.
This is another of Will and Sara’s case - although this case takes both of them into Sara’s past when a prisoner accuses her dead husband - a decorated police officer of being a crooked cop.
It tears into Will and Sara, their relationship - and I honestly love how the author handled it, really. The angst, the insecurity and their.. feelings were given the due respect they deserved; that their relationship deserved.
And somehow, even with this one being my second book in the Will Trent Series; Will and Sara are absolutely adorable together - and I plan on actually picking up the rest of the series soon.
Now coming to the actual mystery/case within - in spite of me calling the actual perpetrator right from the start - the case is gory, creepy and yet intriguing at the same time.
The plot itself had me hooked from start - I mean I read these books for Will and Sara’s relationship but I honestly stay for the violent and gory cases that get my adrenaline pumping and has me flipping the pages over and over until I reach the end.
Just saying? If you haven’t picked up Karin Slaughter books, you are definitely missing out.

This was an intriguing mystery from a new to me author – that I read through the audio book format and I just couldn’t stop myself from listening to the book until the very end.
One morning, Augusta aka Gus receives a phone call from her great grandmother’s nurse informing her that she has passed away; it doesn’t take much time for her to decide to leave her abusive and controlling boyfriend behind and move back to the run down old house and an old dog, Levi – where she went to live at the age of eight, when her mother died in a car accident.
While she goes through her great grandmother’s house; all the while reminiscing about her childhood and her upbringing, she finds some clues in case files belonging to her Police Detective mother and gets sucked into following them, to solve the case that her mother seems to have been obsessed with, right till the end of her life.
Dark August is a slow burn thriller – with whole lot of information slowly being revealed, it is the protagonist, Gus who shines all the way through. A resourceful, intelligent and stubborn young girl of 20, Gus seems to have an instinct of being able to find the loose threads that no one seems to have looked for, but taking everything that happened, at first 12 years ago and then 5 years before at face value.
With a predictable plotline – (it was for me, I called the big twist that came, quite easily!) – it is Gus who shines through; who at first came across a bitter, whining young girl to the self assured, and strong independent woman she becomes at the end of the book – shows EXACTLY how a character growth should take place in a book.
I would recommend this book just for the wonderful growth Gus showed throughout the book; but also for the lovers of a slow burn thriller that you just would like to get lost on a rainy day!

Eep! This was such a cute adorkable romance - and exactly what I needed to get me half-way out of a reading slump. I mean give me a cute and well-written LGBTAlQ+ romance read and you will have me gushing and squealing this also includes me pushing the book in my friend's face until they have no choice but to pick up the book-which is EXACTLY what will happen with this book. Yeah, #sorrynotsorry
Teddy Spencer has enough of love. He wasn't exactly sold on the idea of love before the break-up with his ex; but now he definitely isn't. He is content with his career (sort of) and his small but cozy apartment - so what if he has to look at the gorgeous face of his nemesis everyday - he can keep his interaction to a minimum if he so wants - Romeo Blue is a thorn on his side; because he just can't stop thinking about him in his crisp sophisticated suits.
When Teddy has to go on a business trip with his nemesis to convince an investor to back their project - it follows a cute getting to know each other plotline that makes it all the more better!
It was an adorable forced proximity romance sprinkled with the eccentrics of a wealthy investor had me in splits at times - although there were a few issues I had regarding Teddy's insistent need to compare Romeo's actions with that of his ex-boyfriend and somehow both Teddy and Romeo going from outwardly hating each other to cute-sy PDAs didn't exactly feel realistic to me.
But somehow, this was one of the few books that I was able to read through with interest during a horrible reading slump - so you know that there is of course something easy and special about it.

Another wonderfully written relevant YA novel- coming of age about a young black girl who oscillates between the identity she has lived her whole life and the identity she was born with, a black identity.
Ashley Bennett has lived a charmed life. Her parents have done their best to make sure that their kids, Ashley and her elder sister, have all the opportunities that they could provide for them - that includes the best education at a private school, predominantly white and their house in a safe, gated community; again predominantly white.
Told in Ashley’s PoV, where she does her best to show a positive outlook - but little cracks soon start to appear, whether be it small but significant instances of racism within her friends’ circle or be it her own sister trying to show her, why she is outspoken about the things Ashley believes don’t touch her, because they “are just not that kind of black family”.
[image] I am not gonna lie, Ashley is a hard protagonist to like, really. With her decisions and her apathetic nature towards the actual events beyond as to how it could affect her own life? She came off as selfish and self absorbed at the start, especially considering that the book itself is plotted around the events after the shooting/murder of Rodney King, a black man at the hands of the white policemen.
Yes, she does show a slow progression towards a bit of a character growth; but it’s isn’t as explosive as I wanted it to be - for her to embrace her own self, her own identity, when it is her identity as a young black girl, that mattered throughout the events in the book.
I was hoping for.. just more from Ashley - but it was the plot that interested me; the emotions, the intense feelings evoked in me is the reason why I will recommend this book to anyone who asks.
The Black Kids is relevant, intense and absolutely realistic - it is filled with hope yet at the same time delivers a sense of bitter sweet acceptance that though they might need to move forward with their lives; always being the best they can be, without forgetting who they are!

This was a feel good happy and cute romance between a woman who has given up on love and a single father who just wants to live again!
Paige Parker is an independent competitive woman who is sneakily made to take a vacation by her very meddling assistant - not because she wants it, but he definitely knows that she needs a vacation. Especially considering that she has given it all to her Professional Organisation Company after finding her fiancé cheating on her with her boss and friend.
Lucas Croft, on the other hand, sees only his adorable 4 year old daughter. He has only been taking it a day at a time since his beloved passed away suddenly, letting their dream of owning a cute and adorable Bed and Breakfast in a quaint little town fall into ruins.
When Lucas’s sister takes matter into her hands and books a guest, Paige, giving her brother a swift kick just where it is needed. But what neither of them, nor Paige expect is the sparks that fly when Paige and Lucas meet each other.
Happy Singles Day gives exactly that - it’s a cute, adorable and absolutely heartwarming romance with little to low drama, giving the readers a warm embrace of a happy read!

I requested this eARC because I was feeling nostalgic about reading small town western romances - and lo and behold Silver Creek Fire dropped on my Kindle after I requested it on Netgalley.
Lea, a woodworker, is just shifting to a whole new town-to try a move on from a past trauma-and her mistrust of men. She is welcomed to her new town by being run off the road; and then rescued by her new boss; a man she instinctively knows is "not like all men".
I really wanted to enjoy this one-but Lea made it really hard-she not only ran hot and cold; but for a grown woman; she did really act immature for her age. Plus, the plotting of the book was sketchy -the pacing had me starting and stopping the book multiple times. [this is a pet peeve of mine; I love to read a book through, especially if I am in mood to read; and then comes a book that does not cooperate with my mood.]
While I am not a fan of the insta-love plot twist; Logan was one of the positive aspects of the book along with a wonderful collection of secondary characters who had me invested-may be enough to have me pick up the next books in the series.

An intriguing start to a whole new mystery-thriller police procedural.
DS Eleanor has a secret; a secret that would ultimately decide the tale of her latest case - a killer is taking things further with a pretend "kidnapping" experience in the world of BDSM-where women pay to experience the simulated pain as humiliation of an actual kidnapping.
But this killer, is taking the inherent trust required for these games-and violates the trust, by painfully killing women and displaying their bodies for public viewing.
It’s easy to get sucked into the twisted mind of the killer; and I had fun unravelling the threads of the mystery and getting into the mind of this killer so creepy and horrifying.
I am however, in two minds about the protagonist, DS Eleanor-she is a hard woman to like; she is rude, obnoxious, bossy and irritatingly superior. And getting into her good books isn't exactly easy - something her new partner DS white foot finds out immediately after meeting her. But DS Whitefoot I liked. He was charming, easy-going and I am hoping for good things for him in future books.
All in all, this was an intriguing start to what looks to be a long series with twisted plotlines.

The Winter of the Wolf is a book that you would find yourself thinking about long after you are done with the book.
Bean Hanes just lost her brother-the brother she was the closest to; her kindered spirit; Sam. No sibling a rivalry just a connection that is unparalleled and one that she definitely does not share with her other two elder brothers.
The reader, at first does not know how the Hanes family lost Sam-but the author does a brilliant job of using the past and the present to put forth across the way the family deals with their grief.
The author is also honest about how Sam's own beliefs and deep respect for the Inuit culture also shows how he was perceived by the society that considers anything different as "weird" and "suspicious".
This book is Bean's journey to understand the why and how of Sam's death-it is a honest and heartbreaking journey of understanding and moving on-to a happy and healthy life.
Beautiful book, and interesting as well as thoughtful plotline that will make you think, feet and discover things that will make you grow as a human being.

I requested this eARC because an assassin falling for his mark has got to be one of my favourite tropes ever.
Mercenary was my introduction to this series-so I was sort of lost when it came to the backstory of the characters and it did take me more than halfway through the book to keep the revenge plotline and the characters involved straight in my head.
And where I expected intense chemistry between the protagonists and keep me invested in their relationship but all I felt was everything between them was forced and too instant even though the story discusses years of connection between them.
While I didn't enjoy their relationship; What had me invested was the background of the group and why I might pick up the next book in the series.

Freya Barker does it again - with two traumatised mature characters and a slow burn romance that will have you gripped right till the end.
Lisa is finally in a good place - after being rescued from a white supremacist group; where she was enslaved because she was African American - she now fills her time feeding this wonderful Arrow’s Edge MC members as well as taking care of her two grandchildren. She is content with her life, and the only thorn in her side is Brick - a bearded biker she is intensely attracted to, but who also gets on her nerves.
Brick; on the other hand is on a second lease of his life - he has made mistakes in his past, mistakes that he is trying hard to atone for - and the fact that Lisa is the only woman who has caught his eye and she is the most infuriating one as well - isn’t exactly his life’s plan.
But life has a way of screwing with our plans in every way possible - and that’s exactly what happens with Lisa and Brick.
Another emotional and wonderful romance by a favourite author - one that I ended up binge reading for the expertly weaved suspense and found family loyalty makes it another favourite read of mine!

When the author of a series that made me root for a strong, intelligent feminist heroine with her first series - you just know that I would be obsessively looking out for the first book in a series about narcissistic Princes of Hell and a young witch hell bent on revenge - and I imagine you would have heard my screams when I was approved for the eARC of the book!
A family of witches living in hiding and running their own restaurants and the twin girls of the family have grown up with the cautionary tales of Princes of Hell and their seductive powers from their grandmother; never wondering or even believing that those tales were actually true.
When one of the twins finds her sister horrifically murdered; it puts her on a journey that will open her eyes to the secrets that her own twin was keeping from her;. but also that the tales that her grandmother used to tell her and her sister were not only true but that she has a huge part to play in it!
Like any first book in a series; there is a whole lot of world building, but the best part I have found in Maniscalco’s writing and plotting is that; we find our way WITH the protagonist rather willing them to finally reach the conclusion that we as readers would have already known from the start - trust me, it makes a whole lot of difference to be ON the journey with the MC rather than being a spectator.
And can I just say, no one, NO ONE writes a sarcastic, narcissistic and charmingly careless, yet impeccably dressed anti - villain like Maniscalco does (okay, don’t @ me with Kaz, he is on a whole different level!) - and thus, making sure that the reader is not only invested in the story, but almost certainly WANTS more!
[image] A slow burn romance with enemies to lovers trop ending in a cliffhanger had me gasping for more; I swear; would it have killed the author to have given us the PoV of the Princes of Hell - I mean, a girl needs her candy in the spooky season ya know?
If you have read Stalking Jack The Ripper series; you will most definitely find similarities, though that could just be writing style of the author - and the distinctive atmospheric plot that she is known for!
P. S. There were a few editing issues and pacing of the plot line - which I am really hoping that the final copy won’t have!
