I was way into this book, it was just what I was looking for until that fucking ending. Really? That’s the direction this duet decided to go? I wanted a cartel/mafia romance. Didn’t sign up for a (view spoiler)[ sex trafficking (hide spoiler)] book. What the hell? And no, I am not against reading those types of books. To me, this story did not call for it and it did not fit into the storyline between the main characters. Ruined the whole thing for me. It was going to be a five star read until the ending. I tried to continue with the second book, ended up skipping to the 60% mark then gave up. So utterly disappointed in this....more

[image] And here's [image] [image] [image] [image] [image] Ok, so you can obviously tell that this book did not work for me. For others it might, for me.... [image] And here's why... (1) The last that Maximus knew Ada was 15. FIFTEEN. He was surprised that a fifteen year old suddenly had the body of a nineteen year old, but it didn't seem to matter to him much cause hello [image]Eww, gross.
(2) Max was with Ada's sister. Ada's sister. [image]Yeah let's not.
(3) Hello repeat. Can anyone say Perry's book 5? (view spoiler)[Perry and Dex have problems which leads to Perry and Max hooking up. Ada and Jay have problems and once again insert Max. (hide spoiler)] [image][image] Why go there? Was it really necessary? I mean seriously? Are you kidding me? No? Great.
(4) In my opinion it ruined the whole story line. The whole thing. I cringed throughout this whole book once I realized the direction it went. Not even joking. I mean I can understand adding in a whole angst angle. I can understand Jay going away for work, or a breakup, and them trying to work through it. What I don't get is Maximus. I mean really? Didn't know another way to do it, just had to insert him in there again. [image]I mean he couldn't have just been a friend/teacher right? Then the way the breakup happened was weird, it had a whole "off camera" feel to it. It didn't flow and it didn't have enough of a buildup. Not to mention Ada didn't try very hard at all. She just let him go. [image] This book just did not work. At all. Nothing about it did. Including the eye roll factor....
(5)(view spoiler)[ Max will die without Ada nearby. He will fade away and ghost out? M'kay. So, of course, they have to be together now right? (hide spoiler)] And their whole "fighting" demons thing, it was kind of......awkward? Unbelievable? Strange? I don't know what word I'm looking for here.

[image] I skipped right through the remainder of the book. Seriously......I skimmed whole chapters it seemed like. I don't know what happened, but once chapter 18 came around it is as if the whole series just changed. Completely changed. It went in a off the wall direction, in my opinion. Of course, it just had to hit some of my key points that automatically move me into the pissed off realm. [image] Now the whole series is ruined for me. What is it about most authors wanting to mess up book 2 in a series? Seriously! I could not tell you how many times I have been so into a series and then all of a sudden right in the middle of the 2nd book.....bam. Ruined. [image]...more

[image] Even though book 5 was a let down for me, I had to finish this series because I absolutely loved the first three books. Unfortunately it didn't get better. It got worse. [image][image] I'm sorry but what happened to them? Their story was completely ruined. [image] What they did to each other? And themselves? [image] Then the plot? [image][image] Let's not forget how they talked and acted in front of their children. Their children. And that ending. [image] What happened? Seriously. I want to know how this series can go from awesome to crash and burn. This was so disappointing. I stand by my original assessment from book 5, in that I should've quit with book 4. This was so depressing. [image] I think after having read the last three books in this series, I will not be reading anymore of her books. [image] I know I said I wasn't going to read anymore of her books unless she came out with another paranormal, but the synopsis appealed to me. I love those type of stories, reminds me of Beautician and the Beast. And yes, I loved that movie. [image] Now as for this book, it was good. Way better than the things she was coming out with that read like a tourist manual. Way better. However, her writing style has changed dramatically, in my opinion, since her earlier books. A writing style which I loved and was obsessed with. Now, it is more......mainstream I guess you could say. Same ole, same ole....just like everyone else out there writing romance. Her writing is just not capturing my attention like it used to and this depresses me. I want my favored author back. [image] But all in all this was a good book. So in the future whether I like her novels will be up in the air, seeing as I loved her stuff then went to what is this and proceeded to no just no. Now I am all iffy about what to do..... Here are the main reasons I couldn't go further with this story.
Everything was overly dramatic. The main chick....what was her name? Sorcha (yes, I had to look it up) was entirely childlike. She yelled and cried over EVERYTHING. There was no other emotion. When she talked she was shouting this, or sobbing at this. A little depth would be nice. [image] Another big problem for me was the creep factor. Her "Papa" was not her father, but a pimp. A Pimp. This guy took in all these orphan girls and made them into prostitutes. [image] Yeah no. What was even up with that? And all these girls loved him. Why?
Then there were the faeries themselves. They didn't have the fae vibe in my opinion. Just some weird people. [image] Plus Sorcha is supposed to "know" about faeries. So much so that she goes to this shrine ALL the time, prays at it ALL the time, sees it ALL the time....But she had no clue whose shrine she was at until the faerie appeared, then Sorcha looks at the markings of the shrine and is all "oh this is not such and such, this is this person, that is her symbol". Seriously? You know whose symbol it is but you for some reason prayed to someone else and are surprised it is the person who owns that symbol? [image] And the person whose shrine it really was, she knows ALL about them and their history and their personality.....Yet..... (1) All of a sudden a menage was introduced into their relationship. All of a sudden in book 3 after the whole monogamy thing. Other than their very first sexual encounter (which was a one night stand at the very start of book 1) they have been all about each other. Now? A random person is inserted. In book 3! M'kay. Plus there was no closure with this situation. Which leads me to my second point.
(2) Nothing was resolved. Nothing.
Now it moves onto book 4 being about a different person and book 5 being about another different person. Do I want to know what happens to Dante and Karina? Absolutely. Enough to read through books 4 and 5? Probably not.

[image][image][image] Years ago, after the introduction of Luc into the storyline of the Lux universe, right around the spin-off Obsession or the 4th book Origin, I had emailed the author asking if Luc would get his own book. Sadly, at the time, I was told no to my utter disappointment. Then years later, this happens. This. Happens. Imagine how happy I was. [image] Now onto the story itself. I loved it. Absolutely loved it. I devoured this book in under a day. Couldn't put it down. It was a little different than the Lux books, in that it involved more....suspense and mystery than they did. But it was still great. I cannot wait until Luc's next book. There has to be one. There is so much yet to happen and so many questions I still want answers too. I liked the heroine Evie. And Luc? Loved him. Luc was just as I remembered, except grown up. I definitely need more Luc. [image] I loved their tale, their love story and connection, and now I have to have more. And yes, I realize how much I am saying the "L word" in this review. So what? [image] What is the next plotline I hope to get from the Lux-verse, you ask? Lotho. I didn't feel a connection to the characters or their situations. I didn't feel Eva and Angelo's connection to each other. The story read more along the lines of bullet points and facts, it didn't "build up" and develop in my perspective. Not to mention all the skipping ahead that occurred. They would be talking or doing something then it would jump 3 years forward which left you sitting there like.... [image] The whole supposed romance felt more like Eva was the mistress and Angelo didn't care about her at all, just led her along the whole time. He was self absorbed and she was flat. Plus a lot of the time I grew tired of reading it and had to come back later. The story content was fascinating stuff, I just felt like the execution of it was a little lacking. On the one hand the non-stop action and suspense was easily 5 stars, making it a definite page turner. On the other hand the romance between Violet and Vicente was incredibly lacking. Don't get me wrong, it started out great but then it was NOTHING but Ellie this and Javier that. I mean I thought I was getting Violet and Vicente's story. Was I wrong? [image] The first teeny tiny bit at the beginning of this book had the love going on between the two V's, then the rest 80% of it was all Ellie and Javier's bullshit, with an epilogue of the V's thrown in for the conclusion. Let that sink in for you.... [image] I was not interested in reading that. All of their parents' shit was done and over with. I mean I understand it would be brought up, but to this extent? [image] What was the point in making this about the V's if it was NOT about the V's? [image] After all, I did deduct a star from the first book, Black Hearts, because of the fact Ellie and Javier were brought into it. Not because they were mentioned, but because they made such an impact in the story that they had their own POVs. I just....I don't know, I didn't want or expect it. So to start this one and it's basically all about them? [image] Plus, you come to the end of the book and nothing was settled. There was no real reason for anything, in my point of view, other than to add drama and to take away from Violent/Vicente's love story. [image] So, rating.... 5 star-->suspense/action 1-2 star-->love story 1 star-->resolution/reason/what-the-fuck/drama-bullshit ....and I guess I will put it right in the middle because I don't know what the hell to think right now. I shI tried to finish reading this, really I did, but alas I gave up and put it in the DNF pile. I couldn't get into this story for a lot of reasons. I shall list the main problems I had, however.
(1) The name dropping. It was not necessary. These random people that were listed (yes listed, no explanation or meaning was given for their names to be thrown in) had no point to being mentioned....at all. It was basically like, "Here is Tom, Dick, and Harry!" while you are all.... [image][image] (2) The repetition. Good God, the repetition. Example:
And still, he didn't remember me. Had no idea who I was. Well, I was healthy now. Stronger. I no longer needed his memory to get through the day. I guess if I had to be slapped in the face with a grown, ridiculously good-looking Nate Finlay who had no idea who I was, then this was a good time. I could handle it.
[image][image] (3) The fact that the two leads are supposed to be 22 (Bliss) and 23 (Nate) but they came across as underaged teens from their internal monologue. [image] (4) The fact that I didn't like either of the main leads. I mean really? Nate is a product of Blair and Rush? Really?!? Damn....I haven't read the Seabreeze series, and after reading this, I doubt I will.
There was more, of course, but I think this explains enough....more

Seriously, we don't need to make 6 sentences become one. [image] But what really got to me was the repetition.
I gave up everything for him. I gave up everything for him. I gave up everything for him.
I can never have him. I can never have him. I can never have him.

On and on it went. I ended up putting it in the DNF column, at just chapter 8. [image] I didn't really get anything out of this book.
