"Meet you in the middle. But along the way, Babel will burn."
The Genesis crew finally know the truth. The Planet Eden is about to be destroyed, and a plan has been formed to save as many Imago as they can. Now Emmett, Morning, and all the rest of their friends have to find a way to trick Babel, and bring them down once and for all.

Better than Nyxia Uprising, but not as good as Nyxia. I felt like a lot of information was given and then went nowhere with it. And for some reason, entirely on me, I do not like Emmett. Not sure why so don't even ask, he just grated on my nerves a lot and felt like a game/simulation through his POV. I wished that more chapters were dedicated to the others.
Morning, Longwei, Anton, they brought the story to life and felt the tension right along with them. The Imago were also brilliantly done and made me tear up more than once with their plight and determination to survive.
All in all, good story, great antagonists, but needed the characters (Emmett), fleshed out more....more

Cass and her twin brother Cal are as ordinary as you can get. Cass, worried to tell their parents about her academic probation. Cal, living life and getting ready to be drafted for a football scholarship. Then, while driving back home, Cass sees a boy on a bridge, and suddenly tragedy strikes. Soon after, Cass finds out she is what is called A Voyant - a person who can sense and see the supernatural if they have ever experienced "death" and lived. Along with Cal, she heads to Else & Bellows, a college for Voyants to hone their talents. But danger is following her, and she might not get to survive the second time around.
Was told this was a mix of Silence of the Lambs and Stranger Things and was accurate as hell! First I've ever read from this author and they didn't disappoint. The characters, story, plot, it kept me hooked all throughout. I really felt the connection between Cass and Cal. Accurate sibling relationships is a must for me and the way the bicker and fight but still had each others back was good to see, I just wished that they had more screen time actually together.

"If you never risk anything, you never gain anything."
Annika has survived Daybreaks animals, an evil AI, and lethal storms. Now it's time to find the colonists and wake them up. Only, when she wakes up the one person who could help them - astrophysicist Dr Carver - it turns out it's a boy named Ren Arlo. He has no idea why he was in the doctor's cryo pod or where the he's at. But he's ready and willing to help, and be the friend Annika needs to get everything right again.
I am absolutely in love with this series. It scratched everything in my brain and left me wanting more. Annika was a badass as usual, combined with BB's humor and Ren's companionship it was the perfect trio.
Plot was spot on and rigged with tension. Dealing with Annika's PTSD and Ren's confusion and memory loss along with the ticking time-bomb that is Daybreak. I hope that there's more to the story, but am satisfied if there isn't....more

Annika wakes up from her cryo-sleep, expecting to see the new colony made world Daybreak and get ready to start her job as an infra-engineer. Instead, the ship Last Resort is blowing up. She is shoved into an escape pod with only her prosthetic arm, and an AI that had been illegally uploaded with an extra data pack(susceptible of being logic crazy and cause her harm). But making it safely down is the easy part. Now she must find the colony that didn't respond to the S.O.S, and survive a deadly new world.
I'm so glad I picked up this book. The constant danger made me terrified. The whole world of Daybreak was beautiful and deadly and seemed so real I could reach in the book and touch it(I wouldn't recommend it though. It will most likely kill you). And I absolutely loved Annika and her perseverance. She made the story, never giving up and using what she had to the best of her abilities. I wish all MC's were like her.
A sci-fi book for those that want to dip your toes in the genre but mostly it's a book on surviving a brand new, harsh environment with only your wits, an alien wolf/dog, and an AI that may or may not go logic-crazy. ...more

This reminded me of Alien : Prometheus but not as good. Essentially, this crew - along with psychologist Ophelia Brown - goes to a planet to collect material from previous alien life, but of course, something is living there and wants them for its own. Honestly, if it wasn't for the CRUMBS that we were getting of Ophelia and Ethan, I would have put a 1 star rating. Boring, builds suspense without getting anywhere and then has a very rushed ending that made no sense with a lot of unanswered questions. This felt more like a debut novel than Dead Silence, and that one was so much better....more

A married couple are driving across the country after their apartment blows up due to an unregulated meth lab. They take a detour in New Mexico, only to find themselves in the crosshairs of a deranged sniper. But this salesman and part-time photographer aren't going to die without a fight.
On the edge of the freaking seat the entire book. Honestly? This is probably even better than No Exit. Taking place within less than a day, I was biting my nails hoping to god no one else dies. I was shocked, horrified, pissed off to no end. I do wish a certain "person's" death was a lot more excruciating, but you can't have everything.
Also, I love good marriages, and James and Elle's was so sweet and innocent and the way they absolutely trusted each other made the story that much better....more

"I didn't hire you to be a soldier," said Church. "Or have you forgotten? When I recruited you it was because you were a detective, an investigator. You're a cop, Captain Ledger. That's what you do."
The power is going out, and with it thousands of lives. It's up to Joe Ledger and the team to solve the case and find out who is responsible. But how do you do that when strangers - even friends -minds are being hijacked by the enemy? Who do you trust, when you can't even trust yourself?

This was probably one of the most bittersweet, heart wrenching books in the series. And one of the most confusing. I swear the first 30%, I was scratching my head wondering what the hell does all of this mean?
Many people die here folks, a lot of bad guys, a lot of good guys. Really makes you want to read something lighthearted and fun to even it out. I did enjoy the shout to his YA series, and how it might all connect.

Anthony Horowitz is on a deadline. The next book in his Hawthorne series is due soon and unfortunately, no one seems to be committing any interesting murders. So he asks Hawthorne for one of his past cases to fill in the spot. Although reluctantly, he gives him the "Riverview Close" case. A hated neighbor murdered, a suicide, and the rest of the people in "Close" tight-lipped. A simple enough case, but is it ever really, with Hawthorne and Horowitz?
I had so much fun with this book. A book about a book about a case, brilliant. Told in both first person and third, you wouldn't expect it to work, and yet if flowed seamlessly. I once again did not figure out the mystery and once again it did in fact blow my mind.
You also get more info on Hawthorne in general, the people in his life and who he worked with/for. The mystery does truly deepen and you really feel just as confused as Horowitz.
A cliffhanger that fit the theme of the book, and you just know the next one will have even more to give. Can't wait!...more

This book was so much better than I thought it would be I couldn't put it down. You always read about the lead up to a revolution, you read books during the revolution, but I had yet to read something that delves into what happens after you rest control and putting in a new government order. The volatile nature of making sure the people are happy, the right people executed, and making sure your fellow conspirators stay in line. This indeed was a bleak book, but fit the premise perfectly.
Absolutely loved the cast. Tamas, the - silver fox - general, was pragmatic, smart, cruel, merciful, harsh, kind, essentially a human being knowing he is responsible for the current situation and what it demands from him and willing to do what's necessary for his country. Then you have his estranged son, Taniel, who was a little annoying but his companions kept him in line enough. And Adamat the investigator, someone I didn't see having much of a point to this story, but was gladly proven wrong.
The only problem I had with it was the female cast was practically non-existent. The few that were mentioned as gifted, powerful, resilient, they all had very little screen time, so I wasn't able to appreciate their contribution, if any. Another minor issue, which was a total me thing, was that each chapter was 20+ pages, at least! Ugh, almost killed me, but glad I persevered lol.
Essentially, this had the perfect blend of character/story driven plot and kept me on the edge of my seat, wondering who the traitor was, were the gods actually real, and what the hell was going to happen next....more

An island surrounded by a deadly fog. A murder of a beloved scientist. And nobody remembers who did it, even the murderer themselves. They have 107 hours to solve it before the fog devours them. Can they? Will they even want to?
One thing you can expect from Stuart Turtons books is that they will be 100% unique, and 100% confusing. You will go into this with a dumbfounded expression wondering what the hell is happening and how it all makes sense. But it will, and it'll feel glorious when it happens.
This story is told in the First Person POV of ABI, an integrated AI that is in the minds of all 122 villagers and the 3 "Elders" - the people who run the community - that live on the Island. She is in the service of Niema, the main Elder who, unfortunately, is the victim in this story. She was also responsible for the memory wipe of the village per hidden instructions, although we won't know why. I personally found her terrifying with the way it interacted with everybody and the control it was able to exert. It kinda felt like the author themself was the AI, controlling what the characters do and what they are allowed to know. Pretty cool to read, but also, like I said, disturbing.
I can't really say much about the story itself, just because I can't really explain it. Just that the plot was intriguing, the characters unique, and twists twisting, and that it's more than discovering a murderer, but a community learning that just because you've been taught something all your life, doesn't mean it right. And that Free Will is the ultimate example of humanity. And at the end, you understand the Title of the book.
Definitely love Emory, our FMC, and how she is able to get the shit done that's needed to. Even when she's opposed by forces all around her. Side characters where fleshed out and gave - and took - from the plot in a realistic way. Made you hate, sympathise, and enjoy their actions.
If you like Turtons style of books, I trust you'll enjoy his latest work just as much. Just be assured that you will have no clue about anything until the very end - maybe! XD...more

Joe's at Harvard now and is looking to step his toes into writing. And if he so happens to find love while he's there? Well, Wonders never cease. Oh, he might also have to kill a few people, but what else is new?
While I always appreciate going into the mess that is Joe Goldberg's mind, it's starting to feel a little repetitive. Like reading a watered down version of book one. And while I did enjoy some of the side characters - Sarah Beth!!! - most of them felt like a passing fling.
I am most definitely betting that there will be a next book since Joe never really seems to learn his freaking lesson, I am surprisingly hoping there will eventually be one. At least a satisfactory one....more

"We are born of the Salt, we live by the Salt, and to the Salt we return."
Annaleigh, along with her 7 other surviving sisters, must carry on after the fourth death in the family. Are they truly cursed? Were all those deaths an accident? Or is something more foul going on?
This was cheesy, corny, with, of course, a mysterious hot guy. Some of the passages almost made me cringe it was so tropy. Annaleigh was a pretty oblivious flighty character. Going from uncovering her sisters murder, to obsessing over hot guy Cassius in a heartbeat. Very disappointing for a protagonist.
But the lore and world of Salann was very interesting, and with it's traditions and beliefs, very unique. That and I really enjoyed the final reveal. Some surprising gore and bodily horror for a YA. But it really saved the whole book.
Also, is it strange that it's making me want to watch The Barbie remake?? Because that's probably what I am going to do next. XD

"They(dragons) choose for reasons they don't see fit to share with us. And not all strength is physical, Violet."
Okay, I admit, it got me hooked!
I honestly recommend reading this twice, because the first time I read it, I will admit I skimmed most of it because I was just fed so much information my head was swimming. But the second time around I was able to retain it and understand the characters better. I at least was able to like Xaden more and that counts as a win for me! XD
So, while the plot and tropes were not as original as I would have liked, the characters and world-building more than made up for it. Although the interactions between Violet and Xaden made me roll my eyes more than once.
