For about 98% of this I thought about doing a reread some day. It wasn't grabbing me and I feared I wasn't giving it its due. I'd had a cold and so concentration wasn't my strong suit. However, that ending was too ridiculous. Knowing it was coming would spoil the reread. ...more

The title didn't stick with me and I got halfway through when it dawned on me. It must've been in a collection, no doubt glommed onto a novella. Had I remembered, I wouldn't have bothered. It's not a great story. It's decent, and since I was hazy as to its ending, I finished the reread. There are plenty of other Christie books that I would have rather reread....more

Would a sheriff and one of his deputies both be so well acquainted with Brit lit of the early 20th century to realize that a punny title is riffing off of either Evelyn Waugh's Love Among the Ruins or potentially PG Wodehouse's Love Among the Chickens? Hell, many Wodehouse fans are unaware of that title! It's nit-picky, I know, but I feel like bibliophile Johnson stretches character realism when he does stuff like that. Now that I have that out of my system...
Junkyard Dogs is another great entry in the Longmire series! Johnson's plots are solid and his characters' personalities a highly enjoyable variety of pure whack-job! ...more

She's gone from almost completely unlikable and absolutely irritating to mildly cantankerous and slightly off-putting. The mystery was no great shakes, but it was...odd, so at least that made it interesting. I'm already tired of the James Lacey storyline, but I appreciate that it is evolving somewhat in this third book of the series. ...more
