If you like his other works, you will like this one. Not my favorite story he has released, but I killed it in one sitting. 3/5 mainly because I just read I Was a Teenage Slasher, and that felt like the fully realized story SGJ was trying to tell here. ...more

I love the premise, the monsters, the mystery, etc. T. Kingfisher is a hit or miss writer for me. In this one I actually quite enjoyed her prose and storytelling. The one knock she usually gets is having mistimed humor. This book has that, but it's from the first person perspective so it isn't as jarring. Foxy is the best character in the book by miles, which is a bit unfortunate because Mouse is the MC. Overall, the book could have saved 20 or so pages, maybe. It felt like it dragged towards the latter half of the second act. All in all I really enjoyed it, with a few minor-to-medium complaints. Definitely worth a read if you want a, "Things knocking on the windows in the middle of the woods at night" read....more

Tremblay is a force in the genre, and Horror Movie is further evidence of that. Having grown up in the area where the majority of the book takes place, it only makes the book more haunting. I have walked, explored, and partied in the woods and abandoned schools present here. If you love horror, this is a must read....more

I am an adult, and this is a YA book, but it scratched an itch I had. Folk horror slasher goodness where the teenagers fight back against a masked killer who hates their TikTok generation. It was really fun. A few good twists, and loads of fun. Excited to read 2 here shortly, and then 3 when I get back from vacation. A perfect palette cleanser as a grown man, and a book I would have devoured as a teen.
Edit: I just noticed I said the book was fun an excessive amount of times. I am keeping it in there, because I think that distills down my opinion of Adam's work to one word: fun....more
