Do we go for it, or step back from that chance at something new. Maybe it's a new team at school, or a new job? Learning how to step into that is a big deal.
This big is all about learning to do just that. The artwork is lovely. Chance is sort of like a paper butterfly glowing yellow like a sun. It flits by and one must grab one. Many pages don't have backgrounds. It focuses on the boy and the chance. Some pages do have backgrounds. I find the colors nice. I don't care for the fuzzy green brown stuff, but I think the art is great. It inspires.
Kids might appreciate the way this illuminates that abstract concept of having a chance at something....more

This is my favorite volumThis is the fourth volume of the Japanese high school drama about a family and their relationship to a son who could be gay.
This is my favorite volume. The author really digs into some meaty material and a lot of thought provoking questions are asked about how people see gay people. The mother in this is wonderful. This is elevated beyond a funny joke about a gay kid who his family knows he's gay and he hasn't come out of the closet yet.
This discusses people's attitudes toward gay people and outing people and stereotypes. The mother works in a job and her coworker is gay. She asks him many questions and she watches other people ask him stupid questions. We see how he sees a unrequited crush.
The mother just wants her son to be happy, no matter what and she worries about him being lonely. The volume opens with a TV show where they think their friend is gay and they are setting up traps and secret cameras to try and trap him. The mother asks great questions about that. It's so thoughtful.
Diego seems to have moved on. He has a girlfriend now. It's at the end that we realize that Hiroki, the gay son, has sort of pushed him away to save his feelings. Diego misses his friend. The last chapter is from Diego's perspective and we figure out that Hiroki is trying to protect his heart.
Man, this volume was so well done. I can't wait to read the next one....more

The artwork shines here. It is amazing. I love the punked out Troll. He even gives the troll an arc and a chance to grow with a new ending. The Troll falls in the water and a big fish with lots and lots of teeth asks him his very question, "Who's crossing my river?" It's a bit of his own medicine.
I love that ending. A great tale. I recommend this one if you want to read this classic....more

I was very surprised at the simplicity of this book. Nona goes to her garden, sees her tomatoes are ripe and picks them. She brings them inside and counts them, interrupted, she leaves half way. Big Anthony comes in and undoes her work. End.
It's a basic Strega Nona story. It's not really much of a story at all. I suppose it's a book about tomatoes.
The artwork is pure Tomie dePaola. Nothing new there. Strange little tale....more

I love the artwork in this. It has a scary atmosphere safe for kids. It has such a great Halloween vibe. This town went all out on Halloween. The whole town is decorated. These kids go down scary street to trick or treat and the houses and so creepy. One yard had an alligator in the front yard as a dog, uhhh... NO! Anyway,
They are going through all these scary places and end up in a big town ...
I think kids will love this one. It's a fun Halloween story. The artwork is just so good. The story is a good job. I like the book.

The artwork is out of sight. Akiko is doing so much with light and shadow. It's wonderful. It's just amazing. The light looks so warm and cozy.
One of the reasons I love the winter is that it gets dark early. It can be cold and windy out and people have their lights on as you walk/drive by. It's dark outside and you can look into someones warm and cozy world. That's this story. A family is walking home from work and this young kid is looking into all the windows and seeing the people and wondering what their lives are like. That's how the light and shadow play so well in this book.
This book has a very moving quality. I'm not sure this book is for every kid, but I think some kids will be blown away by the specialness of this story. It's so simple....more

The artwork is fabulous. There are all the normal Halloween monsters around looking for books. We are in some sort of Halloween town and the artwork is magical. It's spooky and safe at the same time. You can almost feel the cobwebs.
We see a kid who stumbles into the local book store after finding a key. The owner tells the kid, there is a book for everyone. The kid wants to find his book, but first he helps all the customers find their books. One book loses a dragon on the store. That's handled and then it's storytime.

The rest of the story is pretty much focused on another couple and felt out of left field.

We follow Seon-Woo who enjoys being ordinary with an ordinary life. He has an ordinary accounting job. The thing not ordinary about him is that he has a crush on his boss.
The plot at the beginning is pretty thin. Still, this is the perfect thing to read after my heart was crushed yesterday seeing the death of democracy. This bit of fluff is a little balm as we descend into madness. I figure I have until January 20th to live free, so I'll read what I want while I can. My days are numbered.
Seon-Woo has a meeting with his boss Tae-Moon where he sees a personal text confirming the boss is into guys. So he blurts out to his boss that he wants to have sex with him. So, it all starts.
I think Seon-woo is crazy, but I like him. I haven't decided about Tae-Moon yet. What's funny about Tae-Moon is how he overthinks everything. He doesn't understand that Seon-Woo is innocent and just has a crush. Tae-Moon thinks he's subtly blackmailing him and so on.
Anyway, the story is simple and it was a lot of fun. Very entertaining. A few moments I wasn't crying since this election...more

This story is based on Nikkolas Smith. He made a painting that went viral one day. This is about a boy who sees all these things in the world that need changing. He feels overwhelmed by them. He loves painting, so one day, he decides to do something about it. He makes art about things going on in the world and the change we are looking for.
It's a story about getting involved in your community. The book is about connections to people and you feel that in this book. I just read 'Maybe' and it's about similar ideas, but that book was set in a vacuum. There were no other people. It was just one person and it didn't feel the same as this book that is set in community. Here, you feel the connections to people.

The competition finally arrives and they play. Mafuyu's song is incredible and the crowd is picking up his vibe. It affects many people. Yet, for some reason, the band only gets 4th place. Wah wah. Anyway.
Mafuyu is a very finely tuned instrument. He is an artist and sort of a soft person. I like him a lot. Ritsuka and Mufuyu had a little sleep over one night and that was awkward for them. He Yu is the main character and right now, he is just so spiteful and hateful that I don't like him. Xie QingCheng is very cold and I'm not real warm on him either, but he doesn't deserve He Yu's actions.
I do wonder, is this whole story going to be about rape. I don't really want the two to end up together. They aren't great together. He Yu really has been an absolute beast in this volume. And somehow, the story is very good.
Spoiler-ish ahead.
At the end of the book, they are on a movie set and the plot is just starting to pick up again, when wham, it's over and there is the biggest cliff hanger yet. For real. Horrible on Seven Seas Entertainments part. We won't know the resolution until next February.
The end of the story was pretty good and our two characters revealed a little more about themselves. They had some communication. Maybe they are going to mend and heal. Hahaha, this is Meatbun we are talking about. Of course not. There will be more pain.
I am interested to know more about this villain company behind some of these things. What is their deal and what are they doing. We still know so little.
