it was okay. though some of the main character's thoughts gave me second hand embarrassment and i think the author was trying too hard to be relatable. i don’t hate the book either. i’m mostly neutral on it. though i will say some of the things in here were a ROLLERCOASTER like goddamn. it was really fun reading it with my class though. the random giggles and exclamations of surprise were the best

i absolutely adored all of the characters. as i mentioned before, it was diverse in so many ways. our characters were made up of various ethnicities, religious beliefs, and interests. all united, by the end, through a love for conquest. (a tabletop rpg) they went through growth and had personalities that were shown through their actions. not just the narrators telling you about them. speaking of our narrators, hearing their perspectives and seeing their growth was delightful. and their budding friendship then romance was justttt <33333 (i love them so much) not to mention, even characters that were only on for a page or two felt alive.
because it’s a twelfth night retelling, if you know the original, it is quite obvious how the story will go, but still it quite delighted me and i was so tense while waiting for her to reveal the truth to him. i love how the reveal was written. his level of anger was believable and justified, but he remained in character by being understanding. i also like how it wasn’t turned into a act three break up moment and they both worked through it quickly. it was similar enough, but also had enough of its own meat to warrant a wonderful retelling.
all in all, if you are a nerd/geek or love a good story about friendship and romance, or both; i would definitely recommend this. it had me giggling and kicking me feet. not just because violajack were so cute (EVEN THOUGH THEY ARE <3), but also because it was incredibly funny at times. i love this book so so much <3...more

raising the rating from 3.5 stars to 4 stars -------- hungry ghost is an excellent graphic novel, representing the struggle of having an eating disorderraising the rating from 3.5 stars to 4 stars -------- hungry ghost is an excellent graphic novel, representing the struggle of having an eating disorder and the complexity behind it. i do think that things were rushed a bit in the book, but with graphic novels, it can be difficult to draw things out. (that was unintentional don't kill me. but it's also true so let's go with it) however, the afterword makes up for it a little. either way, it's good to have books like this, especially for teens. lastly, i rarely do this, but, definitely check out the tws/cws if you are someone who is triggered by depictions of eds.

i loved the nuance put into imogen and gretchen. imogen is a well-rounded, actually funny main character. and as for gretchen. oh gretchen gretchen gretchen. i can’t say much without spoiling, but she’s a character you feel a lot for, even though she can be down right nasty. in summary, i love her as a character but not as a person.
the romance was cute, but the true strength of this novel was imogen’s self-discovery. i loved seeing her realistic journey from an enthusiastic ally “straight” girl to a bisexual girl.
