Reminders that he’s not fully domesticated are always appreciated.

Guys, I am in LOVE with this series. David and Jazz are hot AF, yeah, but there’s so much more to it now. I’m deeply impressed (and very happy) that Eleanor Kos didn’t take the easy road to Dramaville in this book. I mean, flying out to some little hick town to meet your much younger boyfriend’s dad (that’s only five or so years older than you) and his high school friends — isn’t that usually an opening act for some epic and pointless fight, nine times out of ten? Well, I lucked out, because EK just used it to write some more beautiful character growth instead. ...more

Objectively speaking, I’m not sure if this is a five star book. Probably not for most other readers, but I don’t care; I always rate based on enjoyment, and this book (or I should say, the three novellas) seemed like it’d been written just for me. I don’t know anything about this author, this series has barely any ratings — WHY??!! — but I didn’t even finish the sample before I bought it. By the end of the first chapter, I knew I was the perfect target audience.
When it comes to BDSM romance/erotica, I have a particular weakness for this (unfortunately) unusual dynamic: an older, experienced, jaded sub + a younger, just-learning-the-ropes, what-the-hell-am-I-doing Dom. (Think For Real by Alexis Hall, but with even more complicated characters.) Wine & Song delivered just that, with a pretty — and a little angsty — bow on top. I was in book heaven.

Now, I am NOT saying that this was a good representation of a healthy D/s relationship. Remember, this is fiction. (I think they’re getting there, though.)
Stylistically, I had absolutely no complaints. The writing was clear and coherent (and blessedly typo-free), but nonetheless managed to convey some BIG FEELINGS perfectly, all without resorting to rambling or purple prose. ...more

I’d had this grand plan of writing a proper review for this series once I finish book 4, but now that I’m done, I find that I don’t really have anything constructive to say, other than: Gregory Ashe cracked the code.
There are books out there that are gripping, edge-of-your-seat thrillers, but suffer from a lack of credible, three-dimensional characters; there are amazingly introspective, character-oriented stories that lose points because of poor pacing or draggy plot lines.
But what do you say about a book — series — that has none of these weaknesses? That’s so well-rounded that as you read it, even if you don’t like certain developments, you find yourself marvelling at the author’s imagination and skill every couple of minutes? That sucks you in so thoroughly that you literally can’t put it down, and it’s only when your back’s starting to hurt and your bladder is screaming bloody murder that you realize you haven’t moved from your more or less comfortable slouch for hours?
Genius.
I really, really want to binge the H&S series now, but as there’s a finite number of GA’s books that I haven’t read yet, I think a break is in order....more
