[image] I’ve never read anything by this author before, so I was surprised at the quality of writing. it’s really, really good. it’s been a while since I’ve read a book in one day, but the flow was so smooth here I just couldn't put it down. maintaining a sense of credibility in the first person POV can be tricky for an author, and I can understand why some people felt that Cooper’s narration was too mature, but hey, sometimes kids are that way, especially ones with as much on their plates as him. I found it believable and easy to get into. now, the important part. [image] I had many. this book was quite tame as far as emotional rollercoasters go, but it was still filled with angst, and the best kind at that - the kind that builds slowly and steadily. the in-depth descriptions of various gemstones were a bit strange at first, but when we read on and get to know Cooper, it all makes perfect sense. I liked both boys so much, though Cooper more so, but there were moments when I wanted to shake them and make them stop dancing around the issue! [image] I think that stuffing this story on the YA shelf wasn’t the right thing to do. I get it - it starts when they were still young, but so do many others, and they were spared this fate. it’s way more mature than people give it credit for. I think that everyone could enjoy it....more

I feel really bad about not finishing this series before, and also for somehow erasing it from my mind (?). Seriously, I cannot recall ever reading it before. How’s that possible, when it was one of the most enjoyable books I’ve read this year?
Provoked had everything I could want from a historical MM romance. I'm pretty much a connoisseur of that genre by now (maybe that’s what went wrong the last time, I was still unenlightened! ...more

Five years and many, many amazing books later, this is still one of the absolute best historicals out there. I didn’t plan on waiting this long for my reread, but that turned out to be a good thing — I forgot many little details and it almost felt like I was reading it for the first time. I cried over this book, again! For that, it deserves a place on my super special shelf, so I’m adding that one imaginary star to my previous 5-star rating.

It’s hard to describe how this book made me feel. Cai and Fen’s epic love story was absolutely beautiful, but it was a quiet, understated beauty. Reading Brothers of the Wild North Sea was a wonderful experience. It made me cry, smile, and ponder the universe… Seriously. It’s a gem hidden under heaps of mediocre — but more popular — books. If you’re a fan of GOOD historical romance, I can’t recommend this enough....more

What a thought-provoking, totally disturbing, make-your-skin-crawl, wonderful book. It definitely gave me the creeps; some scenes (one in particular - if you read it, you know what I mean) made me feel physically ill. Seriously, be prepared - it's NOT for the faint of heart. I loved it, but I'm not sure I'll ever want to read it again. This was so much more than I expected from a YA book. Brilliant....more

He was a bit of a bastard in Interview with the Vampire, but here we saw his true self, and not Louis' version of him. I really enjoyed reading about his life as a human and later as a fledgling vampire — much more than about his 'rock star' career. Also, that reconciliation scene with Louis near the end was A.MA.ZING....more
